Lark Voorhies Has Bipolar Disorder, According To Her Mother
My my my. How childhood idols have aged. I loved Lark Voorhies A.K.A. Lisa Turtle on Saved By The Bell. Always fashionable, smart and constantly pushing off the advances of poor Screech. And during the years, Lark has appeared on red carpets and independent movies looking like a shell of her former self. But according to People Magazine, her mother knows the reason why: she suffers from Bipolar Disorder.
The former teen star, known to a generation of fans as the fashionable Lisa Turtle, denies anything is wrong, but after a bizarre Yahoo! video went viral earlier this year, some questioned whether drugs played a role. Voorhies adamantly denied it. Instead, her mother says, she has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
In a series of interviews with PEOPLE, it was clear something wasn’t right. Voorhies, 38, would frequently stop mid-sentence and stare off, often mumbling to herself or to others who weren’t there.
“There are things that have traumatized her,” says Tricia, 64, who shares a home with her daughter in Pasadena, Calif. “I care deeply about my daughter and I want her to resume her life.”
Seems like some serious things may have happened to her. And it sounds like both Lark and her mother could probably benefit from counseling but I know some families see that as taboo. But when Lark was questioned about her mumbling in mid-sentence, Lark‘s response was “I have a strong spiritual sense…You caught me in moments of pray [sic].” Pick up a copy of this week’s People to see what her former cast mates have to say too.
