Friday Funnies: ‘Black Dynamite’ Cartoon Premieres This Weekend!
If you haven’t seen the 2009 blaxploitation movie Black Dynamite starring Michael Jai White I really do suggest you drop everything you are doing and get to it. That movie is all types of hilarious and is FULL of cameos. From Cedric Yarbrough to Tommy Davidson to Arsenio Hall to Brian McKnight, it’s a great action comedy that I love dearly. Michael Jai White has managed to keep the success going by producing the animated series for Cartoon Network‘s Adult Swim.
According to CNN, the Black Dynamite animated series will be more along the lines of Shaft inspired than blaxploitation. The series is premiering with 10 episodes, beginning on Sunday, July 15th at 11:30 PM ET. Michael Jai also commented on how he feels about people who may criticize the portrayal of African Americans on the show:
White said he isn’t concerned that, despite its late-night time period, the show could irritate those who think its frequent use of bleeped profanity and the prominence of prostitutes perpetuate unwelcome stereotypes of African-Americans.
“I don’t mind that at all,” White said. “This is a commentary on the time period. It is the truth that, at this time in the ’70s, these were our heroes.”
