Kontrol Magazine Featuring Dondria & Goapele

Lil Kim covers this month’s issue of Kontrol Magazine, but also in the pages are spreads of Dondria and Goapele. These two beautiful women are making great music that seldom reaches the same level of fame as artists like Rihanna and Beyonce, but they are very talented singers and they make R&B worth listening to. I just thought I’ll give some other celebs a chance to shine, too, although I am patiently waiting to hear Beyonce’s new single. Real music is dying, and I think Kontrol magazines agree with me, and thus this issue features two genuine talents.

With so many label infused looks and sounds, genuine music is hard to come by. If you have ever gotten the opportunity to run into your favorite celebrity and you’re shocked because he/she is nothing like what they personify, you have just witnessed label work at its best. Today, many artists are the product of their label; everything from their sound to their image is constructed by a team of big-wigs that make minor suggestions on what will sell, which quickly turns into an identity crisis for the artists.

Kontrol would like to reintroduce Goapele. With a self-described sound of Eclectic-soul, Goapele is one of 2010’s, artist to watch out for. Her throwback style and honest lyrics give more than enough reason to become smitten with the Bay area flower child. With a new album expected in late fall, the serene voice behind Closer sits down with Kontrol to discuss what she’s been up to and her upcoming album entitled Milk & Honey. {Read the rest}
