Heart-wrenching news today as Tony Gwynn, the MLB star known for his left-handed swing and endearing spirit died Monday after years of battling cancer. He was 54.
Gwynn, who spent his illustrious entire 20-year career with the San Diego Padres underwent multiple surgeries over the past four years to remove cancerous tumors from his mouth, blaming a smokeless tobacco habit. This past March, Tony left his post as the coach of the San Diego State’s baseball team to undergo more intense treatment.
Tony Gwynn leaves behind a loyal group of grieving fans. At the end of his major league career, Tony had amounted a massive 3,141 hits and a .338 batting average, the highest mark for a hitter since Ted Williams’ career started in 1939.
His memory will live on though as the right-fielder was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 with one of the highest voting percentages ever at 97.61 (532 of 545 ballots).
Our condolences to his family. Baseball fans lost one of it’s greats today.
Actress Kerry Washington flaunted her flawless post-baby bod on the red carpet this past week looking as stunning and demure as ever. The new mama made her first post baby appearance at the Women In Film 2014 Crystal Lucy Awards after giving birth to her baby daughter, Isabel Amarachi on April 21.
The glowing mom, who was presented at the gala with the Lucy Award by Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes, was a summertime vision in a Max Mara cocktail dress with a black short-sleeve top that has a plunging neckline and a multicolored, abstract bottom.
The notoriously very private star walked the carpet with her husband Nnamdi Asomugha, the NFL star, who looked dapper in a suit.
Cheers to Kerry for looking absolutely phenomenal just a handful of months after giving birth!
Happy Monday to you! It’s the start of the week so make sure today you set the tone for greatness. And nothing starts off the day better than good news. It’s someone’s birthday today! If that’s you, then I wish you all the best today. Here are the other celebrities also sharing this day with you:
Singer Eddie Levert turns 72 today.
Of all the potential ingredients for a good movie, I imagine a mix of Rhianna and Jim Parsons probably wouldn’t be in that pile. Or anywhere close to it really, given her much maligned performance in Battleship. Though one could argue that she had little to zero to work with it in terms of the movie’s script. But perhaps this new role will change the way we see Rihanna in films.
Home is based on the 2007 children’s book The True Meaning of Smekday. It marks the first time the film studio’s made an animated 3D movie with a female POC lead. It also marks only the second time for animation as a whole after Disney’s sweetly endearing The Princess and The Frog back in 2009. Yay for strong female characters!
So what exactly is Home about, check out the synopsis below and watch the trailer:
Basketball legend Michael Jordan has always had game and with that financial success but with one small action Jordan has become a billionaire.
According to Forbes, the NBA great reached the astronomical figure by increasing his ownership stake in his basketball team, the Charlotte Hornets, from 80% to 89.5 %. The math breaks down to something like this: Michael’s worth is said to be around $600 million, plus owning 89.5% of the Hornets put Jordan’s equity in the team at nearly $416 million, combine the two and you have over a billion. Not too shabby!
In what may come as a surprise, Jordan is not the first athlete to become a billionaire. In 2009, Forbes reported golfer Tiger Woods achieved the honor at just 33 years of age.
Congratulations to Michael. It’s more proof that hard work really pays off!
Like with any casting rumor, especially when it’s attached to a superhero movie, take this with a grain of salt. But I have to admit the potential casting is at the very least interesting if for no other reason that it goes against the rumored belief that this character isn’t even a part of the Justice League in the New 52 DC Universe.
The Verge, reported late Saturday morning, citing a report from Hitfix, that Khal Drogo himself Jason Momoa has been cast as Aquaman in DC’s next big budget tentpole movie Batman v. Superman, Dawn of Justice. Momoa’s always denied that he’s being considered for Aquaman, which hasn’t stopped it from being circulated all throughout the Web since this past Christmas.
It was a day of celebration for families and fathers across the country but it seems the West clan had a rather subdued Father’s Day. Take a peak at this rare and candid shot mama and new wife Kim Kardashian shared earlier on Instagram of her baby and baby daddy below…
June 15 marks a big day for the family as it is Kanye’s second Father’s Day and baby North’s first birthday. Double the celebration, double the fun for the Kimye clan — no wonder they were tired; Kanye earlier in the weekend played to a massive crowd at Bonnaroo. And don’t forget the couple are still enjoying the newlywed life as Kim and Kanye married in a romantic Italian ceremony back on May 24. Seems like a family knap was certainly in order!
Cheers to the West family for all the fabulous blessings they’ve received and cheers to fathers everywhere.
