I am sure you’re all around a water cooler somewhere discussing the big win last night. Lupita Nyong’o graciously added the title Academy Award Winner to her resume last night when she took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. As soon as her name was called I felt my eyes watering, and of course when she started speaking I couldn’t hold back the tears. I don’t know what was so magical about the moment exactly, but it felt like the first time ever that a black woman has won the honor of Best Supporting Actress, although it’s not. Maybe it’s the way she graces the red carpet, and seeing another standard of beauty before my eyes. Or maybe it’s the fact that dreams really do come true, or as she said in her acceptance speech, that they are “valid”.
Lupita Nyong’o wins an Oscar for her first role straight out of Yale; that’s rare in and of itself. So maybe it’s because she looks like Cinderella and we’re all witnesses to her first dance at the ball:
When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid. Thank you.

This year I promised you a few more personal posts about the woman behind the blog. I do not like the limelight, but as a blog personality, I need to learn to appreciate the platform I have. I want to share a few of the things I love about Dallas and the places I like to frequent.
The “Mister.” and I are celebrating ten years of matrimony. So we decided to have a few date nights last week, and we chose Crossroads Restaurant at the House of Blues in Dallas as one of our stops. Unfortunately, we chose to visit on a night that didn’t have any bands playing, but we still had a good time meeting the manager, taking a tour of the facility, and enjoying some good food.
I have been to the House of Blues in the past for concerts. Just recently I attended the Snoop Dogg concert with VIP access to the Foundation Room, a cool Moroccan theme lounge where special guests or members can hang before and after the concert. But this is the first time I’ve gone to HOB specifically to dine.
Lupita Nyong’o entered the awards season with a splash. Due to the critically acclaim success of her first movie role as Patsy in 12 Years A Slave, Lupita is gracing the red carpet as Hollywood’s it girl; bringing a new sense of beauty to the forefront. Lupita Nyong’o is happily carrying the torch for women of color as she graciously explained in her acceptance speech after winning the Best Breakthrough Performance Award during the 7th Annual Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon.
Lupita talks about learning to love the skin she’s in over time, after praying to God when she was younger to make her pale. Thankfully, God already knew she was beautiful in her “night-shade skin”. Check out the full speech below:
Just in case you have been under a rock recently, Pharrell has been having a great year thus far with his hit singles “Happy”, “Get Lucky” and his feature on Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”. At this years Grammy Awards he took home three awards and he is nominated for Best Original Song at this Sunday’s Academy Awards. His new album G I R L will release next week on March 3rd, and although the album is highly anticipated there was a little controversy surrounding the cover. Apparently, there were some people who were a little salty because they didn’t see any black females on the cover. In an interview with The Breakfast Club, he talks about his new music, he responds to critics who have something to say about the cover and he even reveals the secret to his flawless skin.
Check out the interview when you continue. . .
Kim Kardashian must not be to “bound” by Kanye West because she agreed to accompany Richard Lugner, an Austrian businessman, to the Vienna Annual Opera Ball for $500,000. I know $500,000 is a lot of money, but Kim is worth several million, and she’s getting engaged to a man also worth several million, so why is she pimping herself out to this dirty old man for some coins?
Well, her little indecent proposal backfired, when Kim got more than what she bargained for from the event…
I guess Kim thought she would just take the money, and run, but it turns out Mr. Lugner was trying to get his money’s worth, causing the reality star to flee the engagement early. Kim claims the billionaire kept trying to touch her and get her alone in a room. He DID pay $500,000, so what exactly did she expect? After the old man complained that Kim was annoying him the whole night but not falling the script, Kim ran to TMZ to tell her side of the story which included black face, racism, and the n-word.
Rumors have been circulating that Robin Thicke isn’t the one who wanted the separation from his wife, Paula Patton, and that he’s been trying to do everything in his power to keep his marriage together. I have a few suggestions, like stop embarrassing your wife with these groupies, but I digress…
Turns out the rumors are true, Robin Thicke really is fighting to keep Paula Patton by his side. The blue-eyed crooner tells the crowd at the GMU Patriot Center in D.C. that he wants this old thing back before singing his hit, Lost Without U.
For those of you who don’t know my wife and I got separated a few days ago. Yea, but I want y’all, I want everyone here to know…that I’m trying to get my girl back…She told me you go out there and tell them the truth, ya know. You tell them that you’re trying to get her back. She’s a good woman, you know.
Awwwwww! As you can tell the women are eating it up, and this may actually increase the groupie count. *sigh*
