Angela Bassett remembers the time she spent with Whitney Houston while working on the set of Waiting to Exhale. The actress tells Entertainment Weekly that she appreciated her former co-worker for being the life of the party without soaking up all the energy.
“She shined in a room but didn’t suck up the energy,” says Bassett. “Some people suck up all the air and it’s all about them. They mistake their presence for the event. But she didn’t do that. She was there to work, to work hard, she was joyful, she laughed a lot, she played, she was easy to be around. You know, she was a delight.”
Kandi Burruss is not planning on paying spousal support to anyone. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star recently sat down with The Grio to explain why she opted for a prenuptial agreement before tying the knot with husband Todd Tucker. To the surprise of some, spousal support was one of the primary reasons why she asked her husband to sign on the dotted line.
“I feel like we should work together to make money together. The things that I’m trying to protect are the things that I had going into the marriage, meaning: Bedroom Kandi, my music, my stores, my properties and different things that I had going into the marriage,” said Kandi.
Brooklyn is showing mad love to Spike Lee, the visionary filmmaker who showcased the borough in the legendary movie Do the Right Thing. The breakthrough film continues to maintain relevancy and keep people talking and now will forever be remembered in Brooklyn on June 30th.
Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams made the proclamation on Tuesday, on the 25th anniversary of Lee’s seminal film. A massive block party is scheduled for this Saturday in Bedford-Stuyvesant, the neighborhood in which Do the Right Thing is set.
The 1989 film, which was nominated for two Oscars, chronicled a scorching hot day on a Bedford-Stuyvesant block weaved with the boiling-over of racial tensions. Upon release the film received a heavy amount of critical disdain yet in time the film has garnered tremendous praise including notoriety from the late Pulitzer Prize winning critic Roger Ebert who listed it as one of the best films ever made.
Congratulations to Spike and may his film continue to educate.
