FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Police in Framingham, Mass., say an illegal immigrant from Guatemala entered a police station, told officers he had stolen another man’s identity and asked to be deported because he could no longer make ends meet in America.

Police told The MetroWest Daily News they arrested 29-year-old Carlos Boc after he confessed Saturday night.

Lt. Paul Shastany said Boc told police he wanted to return to Guatemala but can’t afford a ticket. He told police he has no job or money and is worried about surviving the winter. He told police he came to the U.S. 13 years ago.

Wow! I don’t even know what to say.

Workers from a local community center rushed to assist Derrion when he failed to get up after the attack. Unfortunately it was too late. He suffered a fatal bash to the head.

I hope you all have a very happy and safe Labor Day!

This morning I actually began thinking what does labor day really mean? I don’t remember learning about it in school and I thought it would be good to not only make a post on it but provide a little history lesson in the process. If I’m wondering about this I’m sure others are as well. What are we really celebrating?

What is Labor Day?:

The holiday originated in Canada out of labor disputes (”Nine-Hour Movement”) first in Hamilton, then in Toronto, Canada in the 1870s, which resulted in a Trade Union Act which legalized and protected union activity in 1872 in Canada. The parades held in support of the Nine-Hour Movement and the printers’ strike led to an annual celebration in Canada. In 1882, American labor leader Peter J. McGuire witnessed one of these labor festivals in Toronto. Inspired from Canadian events in Toronto, he returned to New York and organized the first American “labor day” on September 5 of the same year.^{[citation needed]}

The first Labor Day in the United States was celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City.^[1] In the aftermath of the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the US militaryUS Marshals during the 1894 Pullman Strike, President Grover Cleveland put reconciliation with Labor as a top political priority. Fearing further conflict, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unanimously and signed into law a mere six days after the end of the strike.^[2] Cleveland was also concerned that aligning a US labor holiday with existing international May Day celebrations would stir up negative emotions linked to the Haymarket Affair.^[3] All 50 U.S. states have made Labor Day a state holiday.

Born June 6, 1896,  the world’s oldest man, 113-year-old World War I veteran Henry Allingham, died Saturday after spending his final years reminding Britain about the 9 million soldiers killed during the conflict.

Allingham was the last surviving original member of the Royal Air Force, which was formed in 1918. He made it a personal crusade to talk about a conflict that wiped out much of a generation. Though nearly blind, he would take the outstretched hands of visitors in both of his, gaze into the eyes of children, veterans and journalists and deliver a message he wanted them all to remember.

“I want everyone to know,” he told The Associated Press during an interview in November. “They died for us.”

Information is the key to sleeping a little better at night.

The Cute Chick Who’s One Of The Guys – She’s the girl who knows all about sports, and has been around you since the 2 of your were in High school together. She knows EVERYTHING about you, including the secret code to get into the club house, which color ties your wear after you’ve had sex and more. She’s the girl who you would have been with if she wasn’t so cool. Let the wife know how big of a part this friend has played on keeping the 2 of you together. Tell her how she helped picked out the ring and told you about that romantic place to take her when you popped the question. The Facts:

In a small highly segregated rural Louisiana town of Jena in September 2006, a black student asked permission from school administrators to sit under the shade of a tree commonly reserved for the enjoyment of white students. School officials advised the black students to sit wherever they wanted and they did. The next day, three nooses, in the school colors, were hanging from the same tree. The Jena high school principal found that three white students were responsible and recommended expulsion. The white superintendent of schools over-ruled the principal and gave the students a three day suspension, saying that the nooses were “a youthful stunt.” Black students decided to resist and organized a sit-in under the tree to protest the lenient treatment given to the noose-hanging white students.

Racial tensions remained elevated throughout the fall. On Monday, December 4 2006, a white student who allegedly had been racially taunting black students in support of the students who hung the nooses got into a fight with black students. Allegedly, the white student was taken to the hospital treated, released, reportedly attended a social function later that evening.

As a result of this incident, six black Jena students were arrested and charged with attempted second degree murder. All six were expelled from school. The six charged were: 17-year-old Robert Bailey Junior whose bail was set at $138,000; 17-year-old Theo Shaw – bail $130,000; 18-year-old Carwin Jones–bail $100,000; 17-year-old Bryant Purvis–bail $70,000; 16 year old Mychal Bell, a sophomore in high school who was charged as an adult and for whom bail was set at $90,000; and a still unidentified minor.

On the morning of the trial, the District Attorney reduced the charges from attempted second degree murder to second degree aggravated battery and conspiracy. Aggravated battery in Louisiana law demands the attack be with a dangerous weapon. The prosecutor was allowed to argue to the jury that the tennis shoes worn by Bell could be considered a dangerous weapon.

When the pool of potential jurors was summoned, fifty people appeared, all white. The jury deliberated for less than three hours and found Mychal Bell guilty on the maximum possible charges of aggravated second degree battery and conspiracy. He faces up to a maximum of 22 years in prison.

The rest of the Jena 6 await similar trials. Theodore Shaw is due to go on trial shortly. Mychal Bell is scheduled to be sentenced July 31. If he gets the maximum sentence he will not be out of prison until he is nearly 40.

Ike Turner Gets No Love; “No Ike-TurnerDay”

Ike Turner will have the stage, but not the day, when he performs in St. Louis in September. Mayor Francis Slay has turned down a request to make Sept. 2 “Ike Turner Day.” The 75-year-old singer is scheduled to perform that day at the Big Muddy Blues Festival.

According to and aide, the request “was brought to the mayor’s attention, he did not feel comfortable issuing it. We believe there is a zero tolerance for any kind of violence, we would not want to honor someone who has publicly stated they have hit their wife.” [Source]

50 Cent Sues Internet Game, Shoot The Rapper

Rapper 50 Cent sued an Internet advertising company for $1 million Friday, claiming it illegally used his image in a game where the player pretends to shoot him.

The game, called “Shoot the Rapper,” shows 50 Cent walking back and forth in an ad across the top of a Web page while the viewer is encouraged to shoot him by aiming and clicking with the mouse, court papers say. [Source]

Shemar decided to set the record straight. He tells In Touch, “People find it interesting to try to make me gay; I’m not gay. I went on vacation with two girlfriends of mine who, interestingly enough, got cut out of the pictures.
