I try to ignore the racial comments about Trayvon Martin deserving to be killed because he looked like a thug. I ignore the claims that the media has hyped this case, although it began as a grassroots movement. I ignore the New Black Panther Party who think placing a bounty on Zimmerman is worth advocating in the year 2012. I even ignore the fact that an insensitive idiot thought it was humorous to put cross hairs on a hoodie, and sell it in honor of Trayvon Martin. But this new trend called “Trayvoning” isn’t something I can just ignore. Please come get your kids!

Planking is stupid, but for the most part it’s harmless fun unless you’re planking on a balcony 50 stories in the air and you fall. Trayvoning, however, just goes to show the depth of ignorance that comes in the age of social media. A teen was killed and his mother and father are still alive– mourning and grieving. Yet, teens are posting pictures of themselves in hoodies, playing dead next to some Skittles and Arizon Tea.

I agree with Clutch Magazine, whether or not you think Zimmerman was justified in his actions, I thought we all agreed that Trayvon’s death was an unnecessary tragedy. I guess now it’s more of a joke, or another twisted way of raising awareness for a case that already has a high profile. I give up! I refuse to believe there is such a thing…

Today, for the first time, Barack sat on the edge of the bed—dressed—blue jeans and luscious ladies on his chest [a comfy T-shirt depicting buxom women], the end of the front section of the Sunday Times in his hand, looking out the window, and the quality of light reflected from his eyes, windows of the soul, heart, and mind, was so clear, so unmasked, his eyes narrower than he usually holds them looking out the window, usually too aware of me.

The sexual warmth is definitely there—but the rest of it has sharp edges and I’m finding it all unsettling and finding myself wanting to withdraw from it all. I have to admit that I am feeling anger at him for some reason, multi-stranded reasons. His warmth can be deceptive. Tho he speaks sweet words and can be open and trusting, there is also that coolness—and I begin to have an inkling of some things about him that could get to me.

Listen. President Barack Obama is probably one of the most charismatic presidents EVER, in my opinion.  The POTUS stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to slow jam the news with him and The Roots.  The focus is on the keeping the rates down on college loans.

I think this is freaking brilliant.  With this legislature, President Obama is talking to a younger crowd who will appreciate this move.  I, for one, back him on it just by principle alone but he slow jammed the reasons he wants to make this work? George Zimmerman’s team has released the bloody pics of his head that backs up Zimmerman’s claim that he was assaulted by Trayvon Martin, thus the reason he confronted, shot, and killed the teen walking home from 7-11 in the early evening not committing a crime.  It’s hard for me to not be biased in this case because I can’t understand how a teen walking home from 7-11, shortly after sunset, looks suspicious enough to kill. How suspicious can you look at 6:59 PM on a Sunday when everyone is home preparing for work and school? I would understand the “suspicion” more if the incident took place at 2 AM, but at 7 PM, that’s what teens do, walk to 7-11 to get some effin’ Skittles and tea.

Anyway, whatever happens after George Zimmerman exits his vehicle, leads to a fight or a “struggle”. Sounds like Zimmerman is losing from his testimony and feels he has to shoot Trayvon Martin to save his life, the life Zimmerman puts in danger by ignoring the dispatcher and exiting his vehicle to follow an unknown “man”. During the fight, Zimmerman says Trayvon Martin hit his head against the concrete. Here is the photo that proves Zimmerman’s head was indeed bloodied:

Another surprising factor is that Zimmerman is granted a $150,000 bond today, despite the nature of the crime and past violent cases, including assaulting cops. I don’t know how I feel about it. The bond should at least been set higher, but it is what it is. This is the same state that couldn’t convict Casey Anthony, so I don’t know how much faith I have in the prosecution of the Trayvon Martin case. But at least the case is no longer behind closed doors…

Yeah, you read that right. Kim Kardashian has set her sights on a political future by declaring her intention for running for mayor of Glendale, California.  Kim shared her revelation during a talk with sister Khloe on an episode of Khloe & Lamar.  Even though a new mayor won’t be named until 2017, she apparently is serious about this.

She recognizes that she has to have residency in Glendale so she’s in the process of looking for a house to buy out there.  Her assistant Noelle Keshishian is apparently looking into all the requirements and plans on helping with her election campaign.  My feeling is that there probably wouldn’t be much a campaign needed.  Having Kim as a mayor of any city in financially injured California would do nothing but help bring in some revenue.  However, CNN’s Soledad O’Brien revealed a major kink in this whole plan, which could knock Kim out the running instantly…

Apparently, Glendale doesn’t have an electoral process for their mayors!  The position is ran by a rotating board. *The Price Is Right losing horn*  Watch the clip below:

George Zimmerman has definitely been feeling the stress from the Trayvon murder case. Since the release of the police video, it looks as though George Zimmerman has lost weight. The picture we are use to seeing of a thick George Zimmerman in orange is from a mugshot in 2005 after he was arrested for assaulting a cop, or was it domestic violence, or perhaps disorderly conduct. Whoa, 2005 was not a good year for George Zimmerman. Anyway, this is the new slimmer George Zimmerman who has lost a lot of weight since the February video and even more weight since 2005.

It’s hard to type this because I am just grateful someone finally made a decision, and while waiting on that decision, I have seen the WORST in humans BUT thank God, I have seen the BEST, too. George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin back in February, by his own omission. Instead of investigating the death of the 17 year-old unarmed teen who was killed just yards away from his second home, the local detectives and prosecutors decided to not press charges based solely on George Zimmerman’s claims of self defense.  Since then the case has garnered national attention, along with media hungry opportunist not worth mentioning, but the many people who truly believed in justice for Trayvon remained steadfast in their protest and ignored the blatant attempts to paint Trayvon Martin as black gansta-thug.

Today there is good news. Conservative Prosecutor Angela Corey, just announced that Zimmerman will be charged with second degree murder. Honestly, I think it’s high burden to meet from what has been leaked, but there must be something in the evidence that suggests this crime is more than just self-defense or manslaughter. Secondly, Zimmerman turned himself in and at this moment no bond has been set.

•  5:02 PM CT: Corey is introducing the team of investigators and others involved. “I can tell you we did not come to this decision lightly.”
•  5:03 PM CT: “We do not prosecute by public pressure” but on the laws and the evidence.
•  5:04 PM CT: Defendant’s rights will be protected as well as those of the victim. “We will continue to seek the truth throughout this case.”
•  5:05 PM CT: It’s second-degree murder. They don’t seem to have him in custody as had been reported.
•  5:06 PM CT: Scratch that, Zimmerman is in custody.
•  5:08 PM CT: Zimmerman turned himself in and was arrested. Corey gets testy when asked why it took this long for charges.
•  5:10 PM CT: Currently there is no bond, though a bond hearing may be held in future. Returning to the investigation’s timeline, “The only slight delay is the fact that the governor stepped in and appointed us.”

Obviously, this is a tragedy. I can only imagine what these parents are going through, and when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids, and I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this, and that everybody pulls together — federal, state and local — to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened.

THE PRESIDENT: Well, I’m the head of the executive branch, and the Attorney General reports to me so I’ve got to be careful about my statements to make sure that we’re not impairing any investigation that’s taking place right now.

But obviously, this is a tragedy.  I can only imagine what these parents are going through.  And when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids.  And I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this, and that everybody pulls together — federal, state and local — to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened.

So I’m glad that not only is the Justice Department looking into it, I understand now that the governor of the state of Florida has formed a task force to investigate what’s taking place.  I think all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen.  And that means that examine the laws and the context for what happened, as well as the specifics of the incident.

But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin.  If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.  And I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves, and that we’re going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.

If the cops would have just tried to do their job and stand-up for the true victim (Trayvon Martin) in this case, George Zimmerman would be in jail. As more and more evidence is uncovered, there is no way that George Zimmerman should have been able to claim self-defense. But things are now turning around thanks to so many of you who have signed the petition at Change.org, and made sure this story found its way into mainstream media. There is some good news, the US Justice Department will open an investigation as well as the FBI, and hopefully some cops will be fired, too.

While the FACTS keep coming in, it’s evident that Trayvon Martin was not looking for trouble, and lived his last moments in utter fear. A 16-year old teenage girl recounts her last phone call with Trayvon Martin just seconds before he was killed. It appears that Trayvon was running for his life because he saw a strange man in a SVU following him. The teenage girl on the phone told him to, “Run!”…

 ”He said this man was watching him, so he put his hoodie on. He said he lost the man,” the girl told ABC News. “I asked Trayvon to run, and he said he was going to walk fast. I told him to run but he said he was not going to run.”

According to accounts gleaned from 911 audio recordings made the night of the killing and the teenage girl’s statements, Martin eventually did run. But Zimmerman wasn’t far behind, and soon the two would be face to face. Zimmerman, the self-appointed captain of the neighborhood watch, was armed with a 9mm pistol. Trayvon had little more than a bag of candy in his pocket.

“Trayvon said, ‘What are you following me for?’ and the man said, ‘What are you doing here?’ Next thing I hear is somebody pushing, and somebody pushed Trayvon because the headset just fell. I called him again and he didn’t answer the phone.”

Rush Limbaugh “finally” goes too far by launching a personal attack on Sandra Fluke, the only woman to address the health care issue on birth control before Rep Issa’s faux health care commission on birth control in religious organization. Rush Limbaugh is not only misinformed on who uses birth control and why, but on the fact that taxpayer money is being used to fund it. This is an issue regarding private medical insurance carried by religious companies in which women pay into. Sandra Fluke wants to make sure that birth control and hormonal therapy for women are included amongst the prescription drugs that insurance companies carry, and not banned from coverage because of an employer’s religious beliefs. In other words, this should be a private matter between a woman and her doctor, and not a woman and her employer. In the case of the Catholic church, who are ethically conflicted with the use of any birth control, although the majority of their members uses it, President Obama has created an opt-out clause that allows the insurance companies to cover the cost, so that the Catholic church can maintain it’s freedom of religion, as well as its moral stance on the birth control. Basically it’s a case about individual freedom of an employee versus a religious based employer.

In order to silence Fluke, and to marginalize the debate, Rush Limbaugh calls Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” three days in a row. After pressure from advertisers, Limbaugh finally releases a very rare apology. Sandra Fluke discusses Limbaugh’s apology this morning on The View:

He’s awesome.  Yesterday, the East Room of the White House was transformed into an intimate setting for a blues concert, featuring Mick Jagger and BB King.  As President Obama thanked everyone for coming to enjoy the private affair (which will be broadcasted on PBS on February 27th) BB King stepped up to the mic and issued this challenge:

Well, I heard you singing Al Green, so you’ve done started something that you gotta keep up!

I’m speaking as a girl who had a lot of abortions and I swear to God, if they had shown me a picture of the fetus… I would have put my child in a lot of situations that wouldn’t have been good because I didn’t have the mental capacity to deal with having a child.

Wow! She said a lot of abortions. I don’t know what to say about that, but I DO appreciate her honesty because not many women would give such a testimony publicly, let alone to the whole nation. If you want to know why Sherri Shepherd was in such a bad place in her life, she explains the reasoning behind the abortions:

Before I converted to Christianity, I was a Jehovah’s Witness. In 1993, my mother was dying from diabetic complications. My sister was heavy into drugs, and we would have to go and get her from crack houses. I was in a very physically abusive relationship. I was sleeping with a lot of guys and had more abortions than I would like to count. I had very low self-esteem and just wanted to die. I felt if someone killed me, it wouldn’t even make a difference. But God showed me that it would make a difference.

The ladies also brought up a good point. Many of the people that are fighting for pro-life laws are the very women (Conservatives) that turn their backs on poor women when they choose life– by fighting legislation that provides welfare, food stamps, childcare, and early education. For so many poor and abused women, plus women addicted to drugs, there are very few options when they choose to have children. If we are to be a pro-life country, we have to do better, and have more compassion for women in “circumstances”. We can’t be pro-life and judgmental and selfish, too. I agree with President Obama let’s start by reducing the need for abortion first, and educate women on sexual health and reproduction.Similar Posts:

Yesterday when I saw new pics of Beyonce post-baby, I was so amazed at how beautiful she looked with her new motherhood curves, only to get on twitter and other popular message boards and have my moment ruined with so much negativity surrounding Beyonce’s pregnancy. There are still people out there that believe Beyonce faked her whole pregnancy, and I just can’t wrap my mind around their logic, considering they don’t have any concrete proof to make such allegations. Believing this mess, is just as crazy to me, as believing President Obama was born in Kenya to a teenage American mother traveling across the world nine months pregnant back in 1961. I guess it is…what it is, and  hopefully the Knowles, Carter, and Rowland families can drown out the noise of the baby-bumpers, to focus on what’s important, Blue Ivy.

I want to see more pictures of Beyonce post-baby like the one below, and I want to eventually see pictures of the beautiful Blue Ivy. The main people hating on the Knowles or the same people flocking to the internet to see more pics. *scratches head*

It seems like Beyonce has done everything right, and for some reason that’s so hard for people to love. I read an interesting article on Huffington Post by Rev Michael Water, about Jay-Z and Beyonce and how they have re-established the traditional family unit in the hip-hop culture. I’m scared that all of this negative baby-bumper talk is just another way to tear down the black family.  I understood the outrage with Alicia Keys and Fantasia because families were broken apart, but in this situation, Jay-Z and Beyonce are creating a family with both a mother and father together in matrimony, without cheating on or tearing apart another black family.  So why are you so mad?

Honestly, I hoped that my generation, the hip-hop generation (or Generation X), deeply scarred by the absence of their own fathers, would not repeat their fathers’ mistakes. Increasingly, I see my hopes dashed. As a pastor, I recently came to the grim recognition that of the last fifteen children that I have baptized, only four times was the father present to participate in the celebration of the sacrament. Of those fathers present, only one father was married to the woman with whom the child was conceived at the time of the baptism. And for me, it appears as if the trend of fatherless baptisms will continue in the near future.

Today, many families are “redefined” at the very point of conception as marriage is no longer considered a prerequisite towards beginning a family. I applaud Jay-Z and Beyonce for accomplishing what many in my generation have failed to do, breaking the cycle of absenteeism established by their parents’ generation. {Read the rest at Huffington Post}
