This theme was hard, and I probably changed it at least three times. But, I think my vote goes to Stevie Wonder. I don’t know of any other artist who’s voice is imitated, and who’s body of work is re-made and sampled as much, next to the Beatles. I chose Stevie not because he has the best voice, but because he’s a true musician, he reads, writes, compose, and performs. He’s wrote love songs, political songs, dance songs, and you name it. He has duets with other greats, and on top of that, he’s blind… He’s not my favorite, but he is probably the greatest by all standards…
Now, I know if everyone is honest, they would have the electric slide, the hustle, the bus stop, or the casper shuffle on their post today. But since, we all enjoy those moments, I’m going to skip to something else. And you know, I love me some line dancing. As I write this, I just realized this will be my first family reunion without my mother. When I created this theme it was about the good times, but just now I miss my mama…So this first song is dedicated to her.
We love to dance, and old school music is a staple in our family no matter the age. The best is when young and old come together on a classic song that we all know the words to. You know the words to this song, too. You better know the words to this song…
And since everyone else have three songs; This one is for my 30 somethings. What’s a family reunion without sitting and reminiscing with your cousins, back in the day…
I’m so glad it’s Friday. This has been a very very long week, and this theme comes just in time. I don’t have to think too much, and there’s no research involved. I love music with a melo tempo, and I’m a huge fan of Neo-Soul. Amel Larrieux makes great music, but has never really broken into mainstream, except for a few hits with Groove Theory. I posted the lyrics to the chorus, so that you can see why I chose this song. This song is for my hubby.
Even if I wake up and find I’m alone, Cause the whole world’s turned to stone, And my God says it’s time I take you home, I’ll be happy going knowing that I loved you
Amel Larrieux – Even If
Last, but not least, because I’m in a good loving mood, and I’m missing my man, I will play Sade. Not too many people can capture the essence of love like Sade. I will post my favorite lines from this song as well.
When you’re on the outside baby and you can`t get in, I will show you you’re so much better than you know, When you’re lost and you’re alone and you cant get back again, I will find you darling and I will bring you home
To be honest my mother was not that strict on music. She didn’t allow cursing, or strong sexual content. So one of the groups that was band from my house was 2 Live Crew, and guess what it’s also banned from this site, even thought I use to jam it back in the day. When we had card parties my mom would play what she called “grown folks music” and would send all the kids outside or upstairs. Whenever I got caught singing one of these songs, one of the old cats would say, “what you know about that.” So this Friday I’m going to chose one of those what-you-know-about-that-songs. You know the ones you loved as a kid, but didn’t know anything about it until you got older, and if you got caught singing you were being too grown or too fast…
Usually I would play something pretty hardcore like Pastor Troy or UGK, but out of respect to the other participants I will leave my “hood tunes” to myself, and focus on the softer side of my anger. I have been having problems with my server, and I will have to move to a dedicated server, which means more money out of pocket. It has been messing up my post and my numbers. I should have moved a few months back, but I decided a virtual private server would be sufficient, but I was wrong. Now, my site keeps going down, my numbers are messed up, Chi-Chi my top blogger quit the blogging business, and I lose money every time this happens. So, I’m mad at my job right now, and on top of that I have blogger fatigue. These celebrities and their drama can wear a person down. Anyway, I said all of that to say, I’m feeling the theme right now, and my songs of choice are…
Mel Waiters – Got My Whiskey[My very first thought would be to drink]
Linkin Park – In the End[My second thought would be to unleash the rage]
