It was hard for me to choose a song because I like a little of everything, therefore,  no one would be surprised. I have showcased every genre possible, so what could I possible pick… hmmmm…Then it hit me, I bet you didn’t know that I love movie soundtracks. One of my favorite soundtracks is from the movie  O! Brother Where Are Thou. It must be the Southern girl in me, but something about this movie reminds me of Sunday mornings at my grandma’s house in Mississippi before we had all these gospel stations. For your listening pleasure, I give you some delta folk.

The only thing I can think of is country. Although, I like a few of the pop hits that come through, and even though I live in Texas, I must admit, I am not a big country fan. Well, today I get to do something that’s so not like me, and I have chosen to showcase country music. Now I did not go all the way outside the box, I stayed closed to the edge to show a different side of me.

This first song is by the Dixie Chicks, and I chose them because they stood up for what the believed despite the cost. I would have just apologized instead of losing all my paper, but I guess dignity is a virtue. When they came back to the scene after the “Bush Gate” they wrote this song, which earned them several awards…The words are so powerful…

Since we are doing country music, we may as well throw in some Kenny Rogers in the mix. My mama loved her some Kenny, and I never understood until I heard this collaboration with Kenny Rogers & Lionel Richie. Boy that man can sing. When I was young I use to get him and Michael McDonald mixed up…

I chose my husband for being a great provider and entrepreneur, which allows me to stay at home with my beautiful sons. Five years, two sons, a family business, and we’re still in love. I think it’s the sarcasm that keeps us close, I don’t think anyone else could deal with our smart mouths, and dark sense of humor. He brings me red wine and m&m’s home from work on Friday’s, and he stills thinks I’m sexy. We love Jazz in the park, hanging out with the neighbors, and dancing. I dedicated this first song to him because it was our favorite song to dance to at the end of the night at our special place. We have known each other since I was 15, and that’s a long time.

This is the other song we danced, too. This is also how he would ask me out on a date. I know these aren’t really old school, but their all by old school artist…
