I just have to disagree with Uncle Russell here, because both him and Bill Cosby are right. There isn’t a one-step solution system to the problems that hurt blacks in this country, it’s a multilateral approach and first and far most it starts at home. We have to teach people how to parent, and we have to commit our lives to parenting our children. A good parent can do so much more for a child than any government welfare program can. However we have a lost generation of children who were force to raise themselves because their parents gave up and gave into the streets, the crack, the welfare system. (That doesn’t mean welfare is wrong, that just means everyone that’s on welfare don’t necessarily need welfare).

What they don’t understand is that the young people who they criticize did not create their own realities. They did not create the crumbling education system that we school them in. They did not create the drug epidemic and drug wars that have resulted in a dysfunctional family structure. They did not create the health care crisis that does not treat them. They did not create the culture of violence that they fall victim to.

When the President brought the Cosby attitude to his NAACP speech a few months ago, I was disappointed. It is nice to tell black people to stand up, but isn’t that really Min. Farrakhan’s job? The President’s job is to tell them to walk to the program that he placed on their corner. It is our job to instill the inspiration that gets a young person to walk into the program and not stand on the corner.

Old people are quicker to destroy the planet, abuse the animals and promote wars and then act like young people are violent. Young people are more compassionate, giving, promote gay rights, animal rights, human rights, protect the environment and want to end the wars. When they point out the contradictions that come up and say it on a record and say it LOUD, you can’t believe it!

Too often people like Russell Simmons criticize people like Bill Cosby and Barack Obama because they don’t buy into the single system solution; they know that personal accountability and choices have a large part in shaping the way people behave. I need Russell Simmons to stop making excuses for what people can’t do, and stop putting limitations on people because they are victimized. You can have a crack head mother and still be a doctor. There is no system that can benefit you better than hard work, and that starts with the parents.

Lastly, Russell Simmons is right. Those that have made it need to help others across. Go back and support a child who may not have that parent. Go back and donate money to a community center that helped you. Lobby the government for funding to school districts. Put on a free concert to buy books and computers for school. But, what ever you do, don’t knock another man [Bill Cosby] for his approach. It isn’t a choice of either or, but of all the above.

Work together, and shut it up! Who cares if Bill Cosby don’t like rap, stop defending why he shouldl like it, and start working with him to end the problems that create a need for children to use rap as an avenue out of poverty. Defending an art form of a younger generation to an older generation is a waste of breath; there was once a time when “gospel” and “the blues” were considered evil. The problem isn’t the music, the problem is the community and the music is just a reflection of that life. What we need is a national “Get Your Ass Up & Do Something Day”…Similar Posts:

About the movie:

Set in Harlem in 1987, it is the story of Claireece “Precious” Jones (Gabourey Sidibe), a sixteen-year-old African-American girl born into a life no one would want. She’s pregnant for the second time by her absent father; at home, she must wait hand and foot on her mother (Mo’Nique), a poisonously angry woman who abuses her emotionally and physically. School is a place of chaos, and Precious has reached the ninth grade with good marks and an awful secret: she can neither read nor write.

Precious may sometimes be down, but she is never out. Beneath her impassive expression is a watchful, curious young woman with an inchoate but unshakeable sense that other possibilities exist for her. Threatened with expulsion, Precious is offered the chance to transfer to an alternative school, Each One/Teach One. Precious doesn’t know the meaning of “alternative,” but her instincts tell her this is the chance she has been waiting for. In the literacy workshop taught by the patient yet firm Ms. Rain (Paula Patton), Precious begins a journey that will lead her from darkness, pain and powerlessness to light, love and self-determination.

I need Kanye West to pull another Swift-gate, so that I don’t have to post things like this. I was reading The Huffington Post and I came across an article, Nightclub For the Plus-Size. Yes, you read that right, a nightclub that caters to the obese, in other words skinny people not welcome. (Shut up! This can’t be real…Oh! but it is…keep reading):

[Source]

LONG BEACH, Calif. ? Move over, it’s Saturday night at Club Bounce and people are bouncing onto the dance floor in a big, big way.

These are big, big people, all dressed to the nines and many tipping the scales at 250, maybe 300 pounds.

That’s because this expansive nightclub a couple blocks from the Pacific Ocean, with its flashing lights, friendly atmosphere and wall-rattling hip-hop sounds, caters specifically to fat people.

That’s right, fat people. Not just any fat people, either, but fat people who are proud to call themselves fat people. People who joke that they are part of the new Fat is Phat movement.

“Self-conscious? No! Not at all,” laughs Monique Lopez, a curvaceous woman of 23 as she arrives in a tight, black dress and heels. “I was like, ‘I’m going to Club Bounce tonight. I’m going to wear my shortest skirt.’” (Which she did.)

The movement for equal rights for plus-sized people is nothing new of course. The National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, with chapters around the country, was founded 40 years ago. A nonprofit group, it advocates that everyone be treated equally regardless of size, arguing that we don’t live in a one-size-fits-all world. [Read More]

Seriously, is the club atmosphere that bad that fat and skinny people want to segregate. Am I not getting this because I’m thin?

An old college associate writes for Examiner, and she wrote on interesting post entitled, Prejudices In Beauty and In Dating. It’s an article that discusses interracial dating, and what different races view as “Black Beauty”. In the article she suggests that White, Asian, and Hispanic men are more likely to compliment a dark-skinned woman on her beauty before a black man would. The statement took me back because I am a dark-skinned woman, or at the least a non-light-skinned woman, but I disagree with that assessment. As I kept reading, I came across this statement, and it just stuck out like a sore thumb:

Here in the south, if you are a woman of darker complexion, you have to be extremely confident in yourself, because you may seldom get praise regarding your beauty, especially but sadly, not from other men within your race. As a dark-skinned woman in San Antonio you will get more recognition and appreciation for your beauty from a Hispanic, White or Asian man before you would a Black man.

A friend of mine said that being a dark skinned African American woman, she would seldom be approached in clubs by black men, but her friend of a lighter complexion would be surrounded by them. She also said that if a Black man notices a white, Asian, mixed-race, light-skinned or Hispanic woman, he would approach them before he would her. Many men she’d encountered would date a light-skinned woman who was out of shape over a dark-skinned woman who was slim.

Is this a person who’s attracted to men that are not black, and is more aware of compliments when it comes from other races? Or…is this statement reflective of what most dark-skin women think?

When you finished reading this, please check out Necole Bitchie, she has an interesting post on interracial regarding Angela Simmons.Similar Posts:

WARNING: Remember there are two-sides to every story, and Antonia Carter has not addressed any of these rumors. So until then, they are just rumors…Monica warned us on twitter that some snakes were coming to get Toya…CLICK HERE FOR PART TWO

One of my loyal readers Funkardashian, yes I do I have a few, sent me an e-mail explaining the drama behind the scenes of the Tiny & Toya show. All the drama seems to revolve around one central character, and there are some serious claims made against Antonia Carter (Toya). Hold on, before you say it’s all made up, apparently there is proof if it comes down to it. There are two-sides to this story, and it’s time you finally hear the other side.

We all know that Kandi Burruss of Xscape was suppose to be on that show and was cut, but we don’t know exactly why, except that there was a falling out with the producer. This is what Kandi had to say about the matter back in July:

I was supposed to be on the ‘Tiiny & Toya’ show along with our friend Joy, Lyfe Jennings’s ex-fiancée, For whatever reason, the producer and Joy had an uneasy disagreement during the first meeting that I was unable to attend and he simply decided to do the show with Tiny and Toya. I was disappointed because I was looking forward to getting into reality television… [Source]

Well I was informed that it all started with a woman named Joy Bounds. Joy Bounds in case you don’t know is Lyfe Jennings “baby mama”. Apparently, Joy came up with the concept for a reality show that included Tameka Cottle (Tiny), Toya, Kandi Burruss, Joy Bounds, and Christine White (Luda’s baby mama). Word is Toya got all the other women kicked off the show through some shady measures. I’m told she was sleeping with a friend of the producer, and Toya’s on air sweet image was just a front for the cameras. The following is part of the message that I received:

I have an entire page about how it was Joys idea to do reality show but it was to be like a talk show. She actually came up with idea and the ladies. That’s why it’s never been explained how Antonia and Tiny became friends; it was Joy who was the mutual friend of the ladies. Also Christine White (Luda baby mama) was suppose to be in with them but she and Toya had a falling out.

I don’t want to say that Joy is beefing because she’s a great girl but Toya is always calling out people on hatin’ and being snakes when she knows she was hatin’ on Joy. Joy and Toya were like sister.

It’s sad in relation to Joy. Joy is the one that brought them all together. Toya was dating one of the producer’s friends during production. lol! Honey she’s not all that NICE. Do u remember Kandi saying that Joy and the producer had a fallin out and the next day Joy and Kandi was cut from the show? Well that’s why.

Okay ma, let me tell you Joy knew Tiny first! Take a look back at pics on SandraRose of Tiny’s baby shower Joy was there not Ms Toya. Joy brought these ladies together. It’s hard for her. I mean like joy is depressed. She really loved Toya, but Toya did her wrong.

Wait, there is more. The messages got so long that I was sent a follow-up e-mail that goes into more details. Apparently MTV was also interested in this reality show, but Toya feared the white audience would not understand her culture, and think she was stupid. It just keeps getting better, keep reading…

The 2 first met couple of years ago and quickly took to one another because they were pretty much going through the same thing bad relationship with celebrity men. The two became friends fast. Joy decided to start up a show along with Toya the she (joy) recruited christine white and Tiny. Joy went out and found Christine and Tiny for the reason of doing a show. “Toya knows all of this.” They would have meetings at eachother houses. The 4 of them came up with an idea to do a late night talk show then they decided to do the reality show to jump start the talk show. Toya fell out with Christine. So Christine decided to step out the picture(You know Ms Christine got her own she because shes an attorney). Toya and Tiny really wanted 4 ladies thats how Kandi got involved. All four ladies met with Bet producer but Joy wasnt feelin right about how he wanted her character to act (crazy) so Joy and the producer bumped heads. So they flew to NYC to meet with another production company at MTV. They were very excited and wanted the show. They sent their deal to the ladies attorney and immediately started reaching out to networks. So within weeks Oxygen, Bravo and Oprah’s network O, wanted a meeting. But, while Joy was working hard trying to put these meetings together, Toya said she didnt want to sign with the MTV company because they’re white and she felt they might make her look stupid, which Joy realize now was just some game because Toya was still talking to the BET producer and dating his friend who were telling her that she didnt need Joy, and that nobody knew who Lyfe was, etc. In the end Joy was stabbed in the back by Toya and left out of everything. Best of my knowledge the two did speak on the matter after the show aired and Toya didnt have much remorse.. Joy is deeply sadden and was left depressed in losing a friend and her ideas. right now Joy remains in her relationship and caring for her two lovely sons. she is still wanting to get into reality tv so she is working on more ideas.

I don’t know what to say except, this does paints Toya in a new light.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT MY OLD SCHOOL FRIDAY POST. SCROLL DOWN TWO MORE, OR CLICK HERE

Michael Jackson was a complicated individual, but I don’t know of too may musical geniuses who weren’t. Actually, I don’t know too many individuals who are not. The movie Crash, really help me to see, that the most complicated person is a conflicting mix of greatness and failures. Today it’s important to put this man’s life in perspective because he has grown into a caricature. I argue that we always tease the ones we love, and some of the jokes we told came from a good place, and some of those jokes others told came from a place that was just mean spirited and vile.

Over the last few months I was truly concerned about his health, and the jokes began to stop. I can see how weak he was, and I knew in my heart of hearts the end was near. I just felt it would be a process, where we could grieve, and not a lost in a matter of moments while I’m pumping gas.

I am angry that his handlers were doping him and pushing him to the brink of death, knowing full well Michael was not capable of 50 concerts in his current condition. The people that surround celebrities don’t care about their best interest, they care about the pay checks and favors that come from being a “yes man”. So many pain killing drugs were pushed into his system, perhaps by choice at times, but this time he was not alone.

In my generation he was not a freak show, but a sexy pop icon. You don’t believe me, here is a picture of the Michael Jackson we had a crush on:

[Source]

Michael Jackson is the most influential man in the world. I would like to say that is an understatement, but his name is Michael Jackson in every language on this earth, and his reach is global. It spans across generations and cultures. I remember seeing him overseas on TV with crowds of people, then he would touch one person, and they would pass out. They fainted from his touch:

This headline is paradox after paradox, and a bundle of oxymoron. I don’t know where to begin because this situation is just wrong on so many levels. First of all a pro-lifer killing another person (paradox #1), then an abortionist going to church (paradox #2), followed by a killing in church (paradox #3). There are so many moral issues to tackle, I don’t know where to begin, but before I do, please read the details of the story below:

WICHITA, Kansas — Dr. George Tiller, a Kansas doctor whose clinic received national attention for performing late-term abortions, was shot to death as he entered his Wichita church on Sunday.

Media reports said the suspected killer fled the scene in a blue Taurus. Police described him as a white male in his 50s or 60s.

Tiller has been among the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortion, making him a favored target of anti-abortion protesters. He testified that he and his family have suffered years of harassment and threats. His clinic was the site of the 1991 “Summer of Mercy” protests marked by mass demonstrations and arrests. His clinic was bombed in 1985, and an abortion opponent shot him in both arms in 1993. {Excerpt Source}

Daniel Hauser is a 13 year old boy in Minnesota diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. With chemotherapy and radiation he has a 90% chance of survival, with his mom’s alternative treatment he has a 2% chance of living, if that. The mom refused treatment, but the courts sided with the doctor and wants Danny to begin chemo, despite his mom’s unstable frame of mind. Now, the mom and Danny are on the run.

This story saddens me. Number one: I can’t believe with the access of information that people are still uninformed and unaware of simple science. I am a person who does not like to take medicine, and believe headaches and certain ailments can be handled with alternative methods. However, this is cancer. There is no way that she honestly believes some vitamins and ionized water will cure this disease, not God, but minerals.

Number two: We have the freedom of religion, but not the freedom to kill our children because of out wacked out beliefs. The sad thing is the poor boy doesn’t want treatment because he is brainwashed, and doesn’t have the reading or writing skills to know otherwise. I don’t think the government should tell you how to raise your children, but I also don’t think kids should die out of stupidity. I hope we can find Daniel Hauser, and get him treatment.Poor Danny!

If you haven’t registered to vote, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? At this point there could only be two reasons: you just don’t care or you’re don’t know how. I hope it’s the latter because I can help you get registered, it’s really simple. However, if you don’t care, I don’t know what to say or do to make you realize this is a historical race, and the future of our country is on the line. Every vote counts and every vote makes a difference. Kennedy won the popular vote by 9,000 votes against Nixon. Out of millions of people it came down to 9,000, and the fact that he won the right states. Speaking of states below is map of the United States, click on your state and register to vote. It’s just that simple. It takes 5 minutes or less and it’s painless. For more information go to Proud Black Voter Blog.

PLEASE REGISTER TO VOTE BELOW:

I just got back form church and the sermon was very interesting. It made me wonder, how many people know their calling in life, their life’s purpose. No matter who you are you have a purpose, you are uniquely designed to fulfill something special. I’m 30 now, and I love to do so many things, and I’m good at them, but I feel like I’m missing my life’s purpose. I know my heart is drawn to helping others, but we live in a time of wealth, and part of me want to pursue money before I do what I know I’m rightfully designed to do. So, how do you step out on faith, and just give your life over to it’s calling.

This really became apparent Friday when we were discussing hip-hop over at Hagar’s Daughter Blog. I take offense when people talk about hip-hop, and I know it’s not perfect, but I think I’m much like David Banner in this way; I understand it’s music of inflicted people, people that are dispossessed. This is not a means to justify it, but those that are the most critical seem to do very little to help or educate the youth, instead they talk down upon them as if they should just know better for the sake of knowing better, instead reaching out a helping hand to enlighten. I can’t look down on the music or the rappers because I feel our inner city youth have been let down, and we blame the music because it’s so easy to do, but what does the music really say about us, all of us as a whole. It reveals some serious truths that we as a community don’t want to deal with publicly or privately. Why are our children rapping about drugs and not about Christ? Why are our women being disrespected instead of lifted up? How did music come to this? Who are our rappers’ heroes? Is it you?

My life purpose is to be the light, to offer hope in a child’s life where there is none. I will give the youth something different to sing about, because I believe they are better, they can be better, and they are asking us how. This doesn’t mean I’m going to listen to rap music and support it, this means I’m not going to degrade the people accused of degrading other people. Everyone is human and redeemable, and I believe that as much as I believe in Christ. I don’t care if people don’t agree with me, I don’t care if people see it as the music of the devil, I don’t care if people boycott it, I don’t care if people turn their radio off when they hear it. But I do care, if you sit on the sidelines pretending it’s someone else’s problem when it’s our problem. People can continue to hear the trash in the music, I will continue to hear – S.O.S.

I will heed to the calling…

I forgot to post that I would be out of town last week, but I’m back now, after a great trip despite the nightmare I had with the airlines. My flights were canceled Sunday and Monday, and delayed twice on top of that. I was originally scheduled to return home Sunday night, but didn’t arrive home until Tuesday 2:30 AM. I’m back for a short break then it’s on to Wisconsin for a family vacation. Even with the bad airport experience, and missing my husband and boys terribly, I still had a fun time with my best friends…
