Vivica A. Fox debuted a new look at the Men in Black 3 movie premiere in New York City. The actress who once played Will Smith’s love interest on the big screen and who now has her own wig line rocked a short ruffled pixie cut wearing all white which gave off a more youthful appearance.

Meanwhile, Jada Pinkett Smith shows off in a sexy shimmery see-through halter gown by Bill Blass. When does she ever NOT look good!

Movies such as Think Like A Man get a lot of media buzz from blogs or alternative media. I like movies such as Think Like A Man, but I also like independent films that take a risk to bring us stories not often seen. Without a big name producer like Tyler Perry or Oprah Winfrey, films like Precious would just go unnoticed. Pariah is one of those films which we featured on MrsGrapevine.com that didn’t receive the press it deserved. In order to have more diversity in black films, we have to support these independent films. With that said, I want to present this new film to you, Beasts of the Southern Wild, featuring new comer, Quvenzhané Wallis. Beasts of the Southern Wild  is already generating an Oscar buzz and is set to hit theaters June 27th. Not to mention, it was one of the crowd favorites at the Sundance Film Festival and will be featured at Cannes.

Faced with her father’s fading health and environmental changes that release an army of prehistoric creatures called aurochs, six-year-old Hushpuppy leaves her Delta-community home in search of her mother. {via Black Thespian}

It’s hard to explain what the movie is about, so you will need to watch the trailer. The story takes place in the bayou around the time of a hurricane of biblical proportions kind of like Katrina. The film features a little heroine named Hushpuppy, who finds life in almost everything she sees, even in the midst of tragedy. It’s a message of hope through the eyes of a kid who stills sees the magic in life, even while the beasts of her life follow her around. I love this trailer *whispers to Oprah*!

According to the Irish Film & Television Network (IFTN), the film, titled “All Is By My Side,” will document the guitar legend’s period in England from 1966 to 1967 as he created his iconic debut album. The feature, written and directed by John Ridley, is currently in pre-production in Wicklow, with principal photography set to begin in three weeks in both Wicklow and Dublin. The shoot is expected to last six weeks.

Say what you want about Will Smith but I personally love him. He just always seems like a genuinely fun and great guy that never let any rumors get to him.  Will sat down with Shaun Robinson of Access Hollywood to discuss his upcoming film Men In Black 3 and what life is like in the Smith household.

“That Willow, she is, uh… See, boys are easy. Like, it’s really easy with boys. It’s like, until you can beat me in a fist fight you’ve gotta do what I say!”

I’m not sure that it’s QUITE like that but that’s probably not a far stretch, for most fathers with their sons.  Men In Black 3 will open on May 23rd, ending Will‘s three year hiatus from the big screen. Looks like Rihanna is serious about starting a movie career.  Rihanna already has a movie under her belt, with Battleship coming out on May 18th.  But it’s being reported that she landed another movie role, as a lead alongside hotties Paul Walker and Vin Diesel in the sixth installment of Fast And The Furious.

Apparently she’ll be filming her part in London, playing a femme fatale character who has “plenty of bite and doesn’t take any prisoners.”  I must give her credit for getting involved in action roles, I would do the same if I could!  Do you think Rihanna has what it takes to uphold a successful movie career, a la Will Smith or is she just the “flavor of the month”?  Check out this scene from her upcoming film Battleship and let us know:

Thanks to great marketing and promotions, Think Like A Man takes the #1 spot at the box office. Steve Harvey’s best-selling book, is officially the best-selling movie in America. Think Like A Man knocks Hunger Games out of the top spot while bringing in approximately $33 million; not bad for a movie created on $12-14 million budget. There are many of you, like me, who still haven’t seen the movie, yet. Don’t worry, I am going tomorrow on a lunch date with my husband while the babies are in school,  and I hope the rest of you will go see it this weekend and make it #1 again.

Why is it so important for people to watch this movie this week-end? Second week sales for black films usually take a nose-dive, which is part of the reason why big studios do not like doing niche market films. Think Like A Man has already broken box office records for SONY, and is the highest opening for a black filmed released under the studio. Thanks to a high sales volume the first week, Think Like A Man has already made a profit for the studio, but high second week sales would be icing on the cake…Think Like A Man’s success will open doors for more black films, black producers, directors, and actors.Similar Posts:

This weekend, the Hollywood and sports world came together at the Tribeca Film Festival’s premiere and gala for the ESPN Films screening of the upcoming documentary, “Benji”.

The team-less,Lamar Odom took time to do what he loves best… walk the red carpet. He cried and complained that one of the things he would miss after being cut from the LA Lakers would be the red carpet events and movie premieres. He’d rather be out getting his picture taken instead of playing basketball for the team he was traded to, the Dallas Mavericks, so I hope he is happy now. He was Kardashian-less at the premiere-uh oh.

Anyways, the premiere and gala hosted a great mix of film industry professionals and athletes. One of the greatest actors of all-time Robert De Niro-who founded the Tribeca Film Festival to bring the film festival experience to New York after September 11th-showed his support by attending the premiere. Here he is with the documentary’s directors, Coodie and Chike.

Also in attendance was one of the fastest men in the world, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, LaShawn Merritt of USA Track & Field who took a quick break from his Olympic training to attend Tribeca. Also, Super Bowl Champions Ahmad Bradshaw and Prince Amukamara of the New York Giants who showed support for the film.

If you are a fan of ESPN Films, you know they bring forth some of the most powerful sports stories ever. Benji goes back to 1984 when 17-year-old Ben Wilson was a symbol of everything promising about Chicago: a sweet-natured youngster from the city’s fabled South Side, and America’s top high school basketball prospect. Nicknamed “Magic Johnson with a jump shot,” Wilson’s natural talents and drive assured his best years were yet to come. Then, in November of his senior year, the career of this exceptional youngster was abruptly and tragically cut short. Ben’s grim fate sent ripples of horror through the city and the country.

Think Like A Man is coming to theaters on April 20th and  the cast members are in full swing making sure Atlanta turns out to support this film based off of Steve Harvey’s book of the same title. Steve Harvey was on the radio yesterday bashing bloggers as losers,  yet here we are helping with the promotion of this film O_0, but thankfully LaLa Anthony defended blogs as a great medium that keeps many entertainers relevant. So we will just ignore Steve Harvey because we know he’s mad about his ex-wife comments, and focus on this film that everyone is talking about.

Yesterday the cast made their media rounds to local radio stations, then they hit the red carpet for the Atlanta premiere at Regal Atlantic Station, and the night ended with an after party hosted by Crown Royal at Reign Nightclub.  It was definitely a who’s who event as Steve Harvey, Tyler Perry, Michael Ealy, Gary Owen, Rainforest’s Rob Hardy, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, T.I., Nelly, Vanessa A. Williams, Egypt Sherrod, Ne-Yo, Tasha Smith, Terri J. Vaughn, Michael Jai White, Keshia Knight Pulliam just to name a few.

Whitney Houston will obviously be the star of this version of Sparkle, unlike the original where the focus was on Sparkle played by Irene Cara, and of course Sister played by the beautiful Lonette McKee. I promised myself that I was going to judge this movie with an open-mind because I am a die-hard fan of the original movie. Judging by the trailer, there are a lot of changes that’s going to be hard for a Sparkle fan like myself to swallow, but at the same time the there are some differences worth embracing, like LIGHT. We all know the original could use a candle or two in the background. And, like hearing Mama Effie, played by Whitney Houston, singing Precious Lord instead of Sparkle. Whitney Houston’s untimely passing, will give this movie a broader spotlight, and I hope it doesn’t disappoint.

The film is not scheduled to hit theaters until August 17th, but in the mean time we have this trailer to watch.

Have you seen “The Hunger Games” yet?

If you haven’t, don’t worry. No spoilers here… but I must comment on one actress that stuck out in particular. While every actor in the movie from Jennifer Lawrence and Lenny Kravitz delivered Oscar worthy and/or memorable performances we want to spotlight, Amandala Stenberg, the beautiful young actress who played Rue.

We won’t get into the racist backlash from young fans who were surprised that Rue was Black, but we want to feature a young actress who clearly has a bright future ahead of her. Represented by Osbrink Talent Agency, we hope to see her in many more movies to come.

I will admit, I did not read the book (even though I have all three at home), but I remember watching the movie opening night at the midnight screening and the collective gasp in the audience from the young movie goers when Rue’s character was introduced. In the New York Times best-selling book, The Hunger Games, Rue is described as a hauntingly, twelve-year-old girl from District 11 who has dark brown skin and eyes so I don’t get the surprise.

Rue’s character stayed with me the most from the movie well after I left the theaters.

Actor and Golden Globe winner,Idris Elba stars alongside Charlize Theron in the upcoming, “Prometheus”.

“Prometheus” is a sci-fi action horror flick about a team of scientists who journey through the universe on the spaceship called “Prometheus” to investigate Alien life forms. The team of scientists becomes stranded on an Alien world, and as they struggle to survive it becomes clear that the horrors they experience are not just a threat to themselves, but to all of mankind. Idris plays spaceship Captain Janek.

Actress Rosario Dawson is joining Amtrak to celebrate National Train Day on May 12. She is serving as spokesperson for the 5th annual event and sharing her love of train travel. National Train Day takes place at train stations in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles, as well as communities across the States, highlighting the unique perspective or the American landscape passengers enjoy from the comfort of their seats when travelling by rail.

Rosario is one of the most versatile actresses in Hollywood. Some of her upcoming projects include, The Blind Bastard Club which she will be playing alongside Lenny Kravtiz, an indie with James Earl Jones, and she will be going to Mexico for an upcoming role in Chavez, a biopic about the Mexican civil rights activist, Cesar Chavez.

Last night some new and some old were seen at the premiere for the upcoming remake of “21 Jump Street” at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

I remember watching that show growing up and the one thing that always stood out to me was Holly Robinson now Holly Robinson Peete. I wanted to be like her with the crinkly hair and totally awesome 80s outfits. Well, here she is some 27 years later still looking fabulous. She reprises her role in the remake with a cameo as Officer Judy Hoffs. Remember Johnny Depp on that show too? I wonder how he turned out. J/K

Also, Ice Cube who plays Captain Dickson in the movie:

The premise is the same with a little more spoof, but I’m still excited to see the movie. It’s in theaters starting on March 16th.

Didn’t know this, or maybe I just didn’t remember, but Holly sang the theme song for the movie. You can sing-a-long to the 21 Jump Street theme song here on a slideshow she created as tribute. She described her voice as a hamster on helium, but that was also one of the most memorable things about the show.

I have to admit.  I both love and get sad at seeing the grey hairs on Will Smith.  For one, it does distinguish him and only adds to his sex appeal…but that’s the Fresh Prince, man! Fresh Prince isn’t supposed to age! (Aaannnddd I’m probably showing MY age with that reference so…moving on…)  Will is currently down in Costa Rica, filming a new movie with director M. Night. Shyamalan called After Earth.  And it seems the family tagged along.

After Earth, which is scheduled for a 2013 release, is the story of a father and son duo who explore an alien planet, after their spaceship crash lands there.  The landscape looks beautiful, Jaden Smith is the spitting image of his dad, Jada is gorgeous as always and Jada‘s younger brother Caleeb is a cutie pie.  Check out more of the pics Will posted on his Facebook fan page, when you continue…

Well looky looky…Emily B and Fabolous walking the red carpet together and in public at the All Star Games’ Orlando Screening of Steve Harvey’s Think Like A Man. We were all laughing at Emily B when she moved into her “own” apartment, and now look,  she has her man right by side in the open for all to see at a movie about relationships. The screening was held at the Cobb Plaza Cinema Café in Orlando, of course, and Chris Bosh, LaLa Anthony, BET’s Stephen Hill, Gabrielle Union, Kevin Hart and kids, producer Will Packer, Terrence J, and Gary Owen were all in attendance.

If you missed last night’s 84th Academy Awards, more famously known as the Oscars, here’s a brief recap of the highlights. Octavia Spencer wins an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. It’s a wondrous moment, as she nearly faints when her name is called. Spencer accepts the award with humor and tears, thanking the the cute guy who escorted her onto the stage. I can’t say she’s a better actress than Viola Davis, but if you’ve seen The Help, you know that Minnie (played by Spencer) owns the movie.

Speaking of Viola Davis, she looks amazing as she walks down the red carpet. I am so proud that she walks the red carpet for the highest honor in film, as her beautiful natural self. Davis misses the Best Actress nomination to Meryl Streep. Oddly, I think it’s an honor to be in the company of Meryl Streep, who is probably the best actor of our day. When Meryl Streep’s name is announced, she kisses her dear friend Viola Davis and brushes Davis’s cheek. I think Meryl Streep wanted Viola Davis to win, the two worked together in the movie Doubt, where Viola Davis earned her first Oscar nod. It’s a bittersweet moment…I’m not mad that Meryl Streep wins the Oscar, just sad Viola Davis couldn’t win too.

For me, Esperanza Spalding’s voice is the highlight of the night. During the In Memoriam section of the Academy Awards, Esperanza Spalding sings What A Wonderful World. Not only is she beautiful and easy on the eyes, her voice is refreshing, clean, and technical. If you do not know Esperanza Spalding, then it’s time!!! Spalding is an amazing jazz musician. She not only sings, she also composes music, and plays the the bass.

The Best Film of the Year, is The Artist; a silent movie that won big last night. Maybe the Academy is trying to tell us less is more. During the age of blockbuster, big budget movies, plus computer animation and enhanced films, a silent film wins…a french silent film… O_-

Oh girl. I don’t know about y’all but Megan Good needs a few more people before I can believe this one.  According to Marc Malkin of E! Online, Megan said she was in the beginning stages of talking with Whitney Houston to star in a movie, playing the superstar singer.

“We were fairly in the beginning stages,” Good told me last night at Vanity Fair and Juicy Couture’s Vanities party at Siren Studios in Hollywood. “We were supposed to meet today actually.”

I mean, not to say that a movie about Whitney‘s life wouldn’t happen but for her to be talking to Megan Good for the title role?? Like…I don’t even…I can’t…that’s just too hard for me to swallow.  But hey, who knows. It could have gone down like that. Maybe Megan was one of a list of possible actresses. It’s a good thing y’all can’t see my face right now, though.
