Los Angeles Premiere Of ‘Precious’ The Movie – Based On The Novel ‘Push’ By Sapphire

The Los Angeles Premiere of Precious went down this past weekend, and the stars came out to support this project. Sapphire was there to promote the movie. [Earlier I erroneously said that Precious was Sapphire. Sorry, and thanks to Marva who brought it to my attention.] Sapphire is the author of the book, and she was a literacy teacher to the real Precious. So Sapphire is not ‘Precious’ she was the teacher of the real life Precious, and the movie and book is based on her student’s life who’s name was Claireece “Precious” Jones. That’s why I need to read the book this week, so I will know what I’m watching. I heard the book is really disturbing and that the movie does not reflect half the abuse Precious suffered from both her mother and father. I have to show you this picture of Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon. This beautiful woman had twins, and showed up on the red carpet looking flawless. She’s just like Halle Berry; she just looks more and more beautiful with age. (there is a close-up in the gallery below)

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey hit the red carpet as well, proving to everyone that they’re a real couple and in love. Mariah Carey also has a role in the movie, and I heard her acting skills has improved greatly since Glitter.

Paula Patton and her husband Robin Thicke hit the red carpet. I can’t tell if she has a baby bump or not. I can’t wait to see her in her full pregnancy glow. I also can’t wait to see first pictures of the baby when he/she is born. Paula Patton also stars in the film. Tyler Perry and Oprah walked the red carpet arm in arm as executive producers to the project, and Monique hit the red carpet with her husband.

About the movie:

Set in Harlem in 1987, it is the story of Claireece “Precious” Jones (Gabourey Sidibe), a sixteen-year-old African-American girl born into a life no one would want. She’s pregnant for the second time by her absent father; at home, she must wait hand and foot on her mother (Mo’Nique), a poisonously angry woman who abuses her emotionally and physically. School is a place of chaos, and Precious has reached the ninth grade with good marks and an awful secret: she can neither read nor write.

Precious may sometimes be down, but she is never out. Beneath her impassive expression is a watchful, curious young woman with an inchoate but unshakeable sense that other possibilities exist for her. Threatened with expulsion, Precious is offered the chance to transfer to an alternative school, Each One/Teach One. Precious doesn’t know the meaning of “alternative,” but her instincts tell her this is the chance she has been waiting for. In the literacy workshop taught by the patient yet firm Ms. Rain (Paula Patton), Precious begins a journey that will lead her from darkness, pain and powerlessness to light, love and self-determination.

Michael Jackson “This Is It” LA Premier; 22nd Annual Thurgood Marshall College Fund Dinner

Last night the stars in Los Angeles attended the Premier of Michael Jackson, This Is It. Jennifer Lopez hit the red carpet looking like Jenny from the block. You could not tell her she didn’t look fierce. Others in attendance included, Nia Long, Will Smith, Barry Gordy, and Tyrese Gibson with his beautiful daughter (picture below).

And on the other coast, celebs hit the 22nd Annual Thurgood Marshall College Fund Anniversary Dinner at Sheraton in NYC. Mary J Blige has been hitting the red carpet hard this month, appearing at many of the charity events. If someone would have told me in the beginning of Mary’s career that she would grow into a philanthropic social elite, I would have said Mary Who? Monica, Mary J, Fantasia, Lynn Whitfield, Jasmine, and Cornell West also attended. Jasmine Guy reminds me of Devante in that H-Town/Jodeci video. She has been through a lot of stress since her divorce.

Spike Lee Jealous Of Tyler Perry Success; Tyler Perry Responds

You know you have arrived when Spike Lee belittles your films’ success. In a recent interview with 60 Minutes, Tyler Perry addressed the comments in which Spike Lee compared Tyler Perry films and TV shows to Amos and Andy. Not only did he compare it to slap stick racist humor, he also used “baffoonery” and “coonery” as additional descriptions of Perry’s work. Now if Spike Lee would have picked on “Who’s You Caddy” then I wouldn’t raise an eyebrow. But Tyler Perry started in the theater with plays, and built a loyal following with his body of work. His plays were so successful that he was able to sell them on DVD, and claim 3 top ten spots for his sales. Naturally he decided to make a movie, and has been going ever since.

I would love to read that to my fan base. Let me tell you what Madea, Brown, all these characters are are bait. Disarming, charming, make-you-laugh bait, so I can slap Madea in something and talk about God, love, faith, forgiveness, family, any of those things, you know. So yes, I think, you know, that pisses me off. It really does.

It’s so insulting. It’s attitudes like that that make Hollywood think that these people do not exist. And that’s why there’s no material speaking to them, speaking to us.

Spike Lee problem is that he doesn’t no how to end his movies, and even if they start out exploring some deep socialogical issue, they lack a connection to real people. Where as Tyler Perry is able to capture the essence of real people, and real problems. Everytime you watch a Tyler Perry movie, you are shaking your head because you know someone like Madea. Maybe Spike Lee doesn’t have any Madea’s in his family or neighborhood, and every member of his family are deep philosophical people without a connection to reality, but to the surreality.Similar Posts:

When a movie comes out with a real plot and a bit of substance, I am happy to help promote it. Now, all of you who went to the movies to see Obsessed starring Beyonce, better be at the movies to support Precious. IN THEATERS NOVEMBER 6th…

Precious is a raw in your face drama based on the novel Push by Sapphire. It’s like Antoine Fisher times two. Both Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry have teamed up to produce this movie, and it’s not a typical Medea movie or a bad remake of a novel like Beloved. Precious is already creating Oscar buzz, and it has nothing but great reviews. The cast includes, new comer Gabourey Sidibe as Precious, Mariah Carey, Mo’Nique, Paula Patton, and Lenny Kravtiz. You will see each one of these entertainers in a way you have never seen them, they each transformed into their characters. Forget about Mariah Carey’s performance in Glitter, she will certainly earn her acting stripes in this film.

I’m begging you to support this movie because if you don’t there won’t be a market to create more great movies like this. Check out the trailer, and tell me it won’t be good:

Ashanti and Vanessa Williams were both spotted at the Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince movie premiere last night. Vanessa even brought along her eldest daughter Jillian.

I remember seeing a few photos of Jillian years ago when she was a little girl. And she has certainly grown into a beautiful young woman.

Well well well, let the rumors start all over again, but guess which dynamic duo was seen back together again. Yes, you guessed it Aresnio Hall & Eddi Murphy at the Imagine That movie premier in Los Angeles.

Eddie Murphy brought all of his kids to the premier except for one, the one he shares with Melanie Brown, Angel Iris Murphy, and ironically guess what the movie is about:

Evan (Murphy), a corporate heavy hitter and estranged father to young schoolgirl Olivia (Yara Shahidi), who is being raised by her single mom Trish (Nicole Ari Parker). When Olivia fails to adjust to school because she withdraws into conversations with a blanket called Goo-Gaa that she refuses to part with in class, the unhappy girl is sent to live with her extremely reluctant dad. {source}

Wow he dares to do a movie about a daughter living with her mother, and he is then forced to be apart of the child’s life. Art imitating life or life imitating art…

Anyway on a lighter and more beautiful note, Nicole Ari Parker walked the red carpet in all white. Her former co-star from Soul Food, Vanessa Williams and sons, came out to support Nicole. Sorry no pics of Boris.

Last, but not least meet the little co-star of the movie Yara Shahidi. Although, I’m no longer an Eddie Murphy fan (Jimmy Got Soul), I may take my boys to see this movie and support Black Hollywood.

So, over the weekend ‘Obsessed’ pulled in 28.5 million dollars. Very impressive for a movie that only cost 20 million to make. However, I opted to not see this movie. I honestly thought the movie wouldn’t live up to the hype .

I guess it was for a great cause, the life story of Christopher “Biggie” Wallace. His son was there, I have nicknamed him Lil Biggie, because he looks just like his daddy. Anyway everyone was there excpet for Lil Kim.

The Los Angeles premiere of “Cadillac Records” brought out its all-star ensemble Gabrielle Union,Beyonce Knowles, Columbus Short, Jeffery Wright, and Adrien Brody. Also in attendance were Etta James (the soul legend Beyonce’s character is based off), Lauren London, and Gabrielle’s close friends Sanaa Lathan and Regina Hall.

Jeffery (who can be seen in the latest James Bond film) and Adrien pose at the After Party. Wright portrays Muddy Walters and Brody’s Leonard Chess.

Gabrielle (in Reem Acra) portrays Muddy Waters’s wife Geneva in the film. Gabrielle talked to USA Today about working with Beyonce: “I like Beyoncé because the check cleared, and if it didn’t, I’d know where to find her,” joked Union, dressed in navy blue Reem Acra. “She’s obviously incredibly talented. When you watch her transform into Etta James and really channel her and her pain and that journey, it’s powerful. As a boss and as a fellow actress, she’s the bomb.”

Columbus Short portrays Little Walter. Remember him from “Stomp The Yard“?!

Tina Knowles (Beyonce’s mom) took a snapshot with soul legend Etta James.

Ms. Newton looked rather stunning. She also has a new movie out in the US called RocknRolla; rapper Ludacris is featured in this movie as well.

I haven’t posted too many pictures of Gabrielle Union since she went off on all the blogs for tearing black celebrity women down from their weaves to their ashen ankles, but there is a new movie out with a black cast, and she happens to be in it, so I will post some pictures of Gabrielle Union. I will help market this movie, although I’m scared. I read the premise and I have to say it just doesn’t sound like my kind of movie, but it may be something worth taking the kiddies to see. Truth be told I heard it’s kind of funny. Meet Dave is about some small aliens (micro small) inside a spaceship that looks human, like Eddie Murphy. Eddie Murphy plays the part of the human looking spaceship as well as the captain of the miniature crew. So the Nilleans, as they are called, are on earth in search of a device that will help them save the planet Nill, where the miniature aliens live. The goal of the crew is to make the spaceship look and act like a real person, and fit into the New York culture. Sounds funny, right! I sure hope it is. Anyway check out pics of Gabrielle Union at the premier.

I was just praising Raven for her curves and beauty and then she pulls a publicity stunt like this. This outfit is what Raven Symone wore to the Christian Audigier’s One World Collection during Fashion Week in Los Angeles. I understand she has movie coming out and the movie is a comedy, but when you walk the red carpet for some odd reason you should dress in a more serious manner. I believe the reason is so that people will take your work as a sincere effort, even if it’s comical in nature. Considering the fact that she has $400 million or so in the bank (I still can’t believe that) she just may know what she’s doing, and maybe the rest of us should sit back and take notes.

Now that Super Tuesday 2 is over, I can get back to my job of maintaining this blog. I am disappointed that Obama lost Texas, but the race is not over, and he’s not down for the count. I applaud him for being noble and taking the high road, but this time he needs to come out of his corner with gloves on. Generally I don’t advocate male on female violence, but this is a metaphor, and Senator Obama needs to knock her out…of the race that is.
