We all love us some Mrs. Carter, and it’s always a beautiful thing when she graces a magazine cover and this time she has landed the cover of New Times Style Magazine T. Aside from the great pieces rocked by Beyoncé in the shoot, the magazine touches on the transformation Beyoncé has made within her career and how she’s literally one of the most popular artist who now sits on top of the world. In the magazine the recent Beyoncé skit that appeared on Saturday Night Live was mentioned, with the influence she has had and all of the bars she has set, she has been labeled a national figure.
Black women have always been dominant figures in American popular music, but no one, not even Aretha Franklin, has reached the plateau that Beyoncé occupies: pop star colossus, adored bombshell, “America’s sweetheart.” Inevitably, Beyoncé is also a flashpoint, provoking ire from naysayers and ideologues of all stripes.

After 63 years of weekly publications, Johnson Publishing Company is pulling the plug on the print format of JET magazine. The company will switch to digital format at the end of June, and the weekly publication of JET will move online to a new format. The company shared this statement in the following press release:
Almost 63 years ago, my father, John Johnson, named the publication JET because, as he said in the first issue, ‘In the world today, everything is moving faster. There is more news and far less time to read it. He could not have spoken more relevant words today. We are not saying goodbye to JET, we are embracing the future as my father did in 1951 and taking it to the next level.
Wow…I always thought the magazine was named JET as in “jet black”. Although I spend most of my time reading blogs these days, I will miss my little time with JET at the beauty salon.
It’s that time of the year again where XXL Magazine reveals their annual freshman class. This is the seventh lineup of artist that have been thrown into the spotlight by the magazine and I must admit I’m really feeling this years class. Some of the freshman include; Troy Ave, Rich Homie Quan, Lil Durk, and for the first time ever two singers join the freshman class, Ty Dolla $ign and August Alsina. Most of the freshman hit up BET’s 106 & Park yesterday as the network helped reveal this year’s class.

Recently Jhene Aiko was featured in the latest issue of GQ Magazine that displayed her petite and toned body. In the sexy photo’s the singer can be seen posing on the beach and also in some sexy lingerie. She talked to GQ about the kind of men she’s attracted to and she said:
I’m pretty open-minded and so I like to give different types of guys chances. My ideal date would be driving with no destination and just talk, get to know each other, get lost. And I’ve actually done that with someone and it was a pretty good driving date. If it was was just like, ‘Get ready’ and then we’re going mountain climbing, and I’m like, ‘Wha? I have on flip flops.’ I like to be spontaneous, but I don’t like it to be a surprise.

Lupita Nyong’o has been named People’s Most Beautiful Person. This is such an honor. I remember having the debate about Pharrell blaming people’s insecurities and projecting their delusions because of his choice in women for his album cover. Although personally I’m not bothered by the album cover or the women on it, I couldn’t help but think about Lupita Nyong’o, and her speech at the 7th Annual Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon.
I put on the TV and only saw pale skin, I got teased and taunted about my night-shaded skin. And my one prayer to God, the miracle worker, was that I would wake up lighter-skinned…And then…Alek Wek. A celebrated model, she was dark as night, she was on all of the runways and in every magazine and everyone was talking about how beautiful she was. Even Oprah called her beautiful and that made it a fact. I couldn’t believe that people were embracing a woman who looked so much like me, as beautiful. My complexion had always been an obstacle to overcome and all of a sudden Oprah was telling me it wasn’t.
I remember Lupita Nyong’o talking about seeing model Alek Wek for the first time and how Alek’s face on runways and magazines changes Lupita’s concept of beauty. She no longer prays to God to turn her night-shade skin light. It’s in that moment that Lupita realizes that beauty isn’t just white. I take offense to the words “projecting delusions”
