Michael Jackson “This Is It” LA Premier; 22nd Annual Thurgood Marshall College Fund Dinner

Last night the stars in Los Angeles attended the Premier of Michael Jackson, This Is It. Jennifer Lopez hit the red carpet looking like Jenny from the block. You could not tell her she didn’t look fierce. Others in attendance included, Nia Long, Will Smith, Barry Gordy, and Tyrese Gibson with his beautiful daughter (picture below).

And on the other coast, celebs hit the 22nd Annual Thurgood Marshall College Fund Anniversary Dinner at Sheraton in NYC. Mary J Blige has been hitting the red carpet hard this month, appearing at many of the charity events. If someone would have told me in the beginning of Mary’s career that she would grow into a philanthropic social elite, I would have said Mary Who? Monica, Mary J, Fantasia, Lynn Whitfield, Jasmine, and Cornell West also attended. Jasmine Guy reminds me of Devante in that H-Town/Jodeci video. She has been through a lot of stress since her divorce.

Mary J Blige is a true hero, in my opinion. We have seen her at her lowest of lows, only to change her life around with the help of God and her husband, Kendu Isaacs. Mrs. Mary J has become the best role model for any young woman growing up in the hood, and proof that if you love yourself you can overcome anything.

Here is a picture of Mary J Blige at the ribbon cutting ceremony opening the doors to her new Mary J Blige Center for Women. Gucci co-sponsored the event. The new women’s center is designed to aid women in bouncing back from traumatic experiences. The center will focus on creating goals through career development, personal growth programs, and scholarships. Amen!

I didn’t know Lamar Odom had a clothing line, he just didn’t seem like the creative type to launch a line. I guess you can’t judge a book by his quick marriage for publicity to Khloe Kardashian. I meant to say with all the marriage buzz, I wasn’t aware Lamar Odom was launching his new line Rich Soil. In true fashion his celebrity-n-laws (Kim & Kourtney Kardashian) were there to support the event. I seem cynical today, what’s up with that.

Speaking of Kourtney, her home was robbed, and cops are thinking it’s an inside job since the burglar took jewelry that recently came into Kourtney’s possession. [Read more]

VH1 2009 “Divas Live” Special

I didn’t care to check out this year’s special of Divas Live and I don’t believe I miss anything. But I did get my hands on some of the divas arriving to the event.

The event took place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn, New York and the list of divas included singers Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Leona Lewis, and Jordin Sparks. The event was hosted by former American Idol judge Paula Abdul.

I adore Jennifer Hudson but this outfit was a no no. I guess she’s a little self conscious after having a baby but I think her stylist could have done a much better job.

Jordan Sparks is really growing on me. She was the youngest to win American Idol at 17 years old and it is refreshing to see her coming into her own.

Leona Lewis always looks so relaxed and poised.

India Arie wasn’t apart of the line up but it was good to see her out and about. She’s been gone from the spotlight a little too long.Similar Posts:

The saddest thing about last night is that I now see both Kanye West and Amber Rose in a new light. I lost two things last night, my respect for Kanye West and my girl crush on Amber Rose. I didn’t lose my respect for Kanye becuase he stole a precious moment from a teen, Taylor Swift.

I lost my respect for Kanye West because he was walking around trying to be something he’s not. I don’t know what was up with the Hennessey bottle, but honestly Kanye you were trying too hard, but you’re not hard. Yes, you have a hood past, but you are not hood. Your mom was a well educated woman who made sure you had a lifestyle of literature and liberal arts, and you are doing a disservice to her and yourself. That’s why people like you because you were a breath of fresh air in a medium dominated by the negative side of urban life, and now you, too want to idolize that lifestyle…

Poor Amber, she just look like an accessory the whole night. It wasn’t just the fact that she wore a python body suit, well that had a lot to do with it, but it was more so how she was presented. I don’t like when men pimp out their women, it’s not attractive look for the woman. In all the pictures she’s hanging on him, or he’s in the background staring at her as she shows off her body. That python suit just wasn’t working at all on some many levels. I am not walking the red carpet competing with a Hennessey bottle no matter what my background is.

Anyway last night turned into a Kanye and Amber Rose night, but not in a good way. But, hey if publicity is what they wanted, they certainly got it… There were other people present, and you can check out the gallery below :

Janet Jackson’s MJ tribute was amazing! It wasn’t her greatest performance but she did her brother justice. I’m sure he would be proud.

The classy lady of the hour, Beyonce, looking stunning!

Solange always switching it up and taking fashion risks! This outfit wasn’t my favorite but cute nonetheless. Funny, she kept tweeting through out the show. At one point she even said she wanted to go home. lol

Jennifer Lopez’s rare appearance since giving birth to twins Max and Emme. She looks great!

Lady Gaga is crazy! But to be honest I loved every minute Funny how she kept changing outfits!

Alicia Keys, beautiful as always. Didn’t like this outfit as much though. She killed her performance with Jay Z on “Empire State of Mind”. If she wasn’t on the hook I don’t think I would like this record.

Keri Hilson. Cute pants suit.

Cassie always looks so beautiful no matter what she wears. But I don’t really like this dress.

I don’t know what to say about this trio, Dirty Money. Another ne of Diddy’s attempts at staying relevant I guess.

Amerie looking stunning. When will we get another album?!

FYI: Charlotte Ronson, the designer and host, is the sister of Samantha Ronson, the on and off again girlfriend of Lindsay Lohan. I guess if you’re going to hold hands with a girl, it may as well be at a Ronson event.

Speaking of Richie, Lionel Richie and daughter Sophia, hit up the red carpet at Fred Segal for the launch of New Disney & Muppet Myzos. She reminds me of Nicole, even though they’re not related by blood, they still favor. It must be the hair.

Fact: The Original Broadway Musical The Wiz Opened In 1975

This is a couple that we haven’t seen for a while. I remember a few months ago rumors were circulating that Ashanti was pregnant, and funny it doesn’t look like she’s pregnant to me. Nelly came out Opening Night to support his the leading lady, (playing Dorothy) in the The Wiz. I wasn’t sure if Ashanti could pull off a Dorothy, made famous on Broadway by Stephanie Mills, but I will say I’m interested. Although the reviews were mix, more like not that good, I think overall it’s worth supporting:

Review of Ashanti as Dorothy:

Like the revival itself, the over-the-title R&B diva is hit and miss—a mighty singer with a voice that soars, but a limited actress whose face registers apprehension, delight, anger, whatever, with scarcely a shift in expression.

Hence, Dorothy’s big number, “Home,” which can (and should) be a tear-jerking journey’s end to self-recognition, made for a dry-eyed finale.

Positive News: Usher, Fantasia, Mariah, Laila Ali

I do feel bad. Usher has been getting a lot of negative publicity due to his relationship with Tameka Foster, but he should definitely have more coverage on the great things that has gone under the radar. Usher has been to the White House, and now he’s in L.A. Here is a picture of Usher with children from Grape Street Elementary School during LA’s Best Annual Brunch. This event was held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.

Fantasia was also spotted tearing up the stage at The 25th Annual Chicago Gospel Music Festival at Millennium Park. I’m sure her perfprmance was as electrifying as that blue top.

Mariah Carey, Pattil Labelle, Quincy Jones, Bill Cosby, and Ruby Dee attended the Apollo Theater 75th Anniversary Gala, held at the famous Apollo Theater in NY.

Last, but not least Laila Ali hit up the 24th Annual Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Sports Spectacular at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in L.A. She looked refreshing in peach from her head down to her toes. Gotta love the paps.
