During the shoot, you said a lot of people ask about your dad and make that assumption that he’s the strict one and you said it’s really your mom who doesn’t play.
It’s interesting that people think that my dad is the one who’s all strict. They build up quite a character with that guy, and at the end of the day it’s my mom who’s going to give you the neck roll.

Well, speaking of assumptions. I think a lot of people have been zeroing in on Twitter convos between you and a certain Mr. Wale, automatically linking the two of you together. Then we see Central Park photos…
Riiiight.

Well, he’s definitely not my boyfriend.

Well, we can cross that off the list.
No, I just stated that he’s not my boyfriend, but we are good friends. I have worked with him in the past and I think he’s uber-talented. I think he’s really smart and really creative. And I respect his art. We have a mutual thing. We’re on the same record label and yeah…

Do you have any advice to industry moms in particular, or just young working moms who still want to be themselves?
I think balance is the essential key to motherhood. I think it’s a really hard rhythm to find, but if you learn how to capture it, it makes the rewards so beautiful. I try not to ever be away from him unless he’s with his dad. We have equal custody, so we work together on it, but it definitely gets hard when I have all these opportunities coming at me. I have to say no to a lot of things because at the end of the day I know that no matter how many awards or accolades or praise or money I get, the one thing that really is a judgment of me is what kind of mother I am. A lot of people feel like their life has to stop because of the child, and they have to let go of their interests. You definitely have to compromise some of them, but I’ve been really blessed. When I went to see Grace Jones, Julez was right there with me. Julez is right there with me when I go for my bike rides. And when I go on tour, he’s with me. And I feel so blessed to be in the position to do that.

Does he realize when he’s doing these things that Mommy’s not the average mommy — going on tour, going to do this and that.
He does now. I don’t think he realized it in the beginning, but the good thing is that he’s humble about it. If I ever see that he’s not, he will get snapped back before he can blink his eyes.

They told me to stand by the side of the stage, and I didn’t really know what was going to go down, but I thought it was so wonderful and gracious of her to do what she’s always done. Janet Jackson seems poised and well put together on the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine, but what she didn’t know was that her world would come tumbling down in a few short months. Her 5 year relationship with producer and music exec Jermaine Dupri ended, a stalling music career and the death of her brother Michael seemed a little too much to bare.

Janet sits down with Harper’s Bazaar to discuss new beginnings, life lessons learned and her fondest memories of Mike.

Here are a few excerpts of her interview.

The last time Janet saw Michael was on May 14, two days before her 43rd birthday. She and her big brother hung out, ate Thai food, and tormented each other. “We had so much fun that day. We kept calling each other after and saying how great it was.”

Now Janet sits atop an empire and a family mythology much of her own making and under her control, an iconic performer mourning her brother and planning what’s next. “You know, I never look back on what I’ve done unless I’m asked,” she says, “but I remember Mike saying, ‘You need to stop and enjoy it. Think about everything you’ve done, all that you’ve accomplished.’

“But there’s so much more I want to do,” she adds. And the smile breaks out again.

Former Atlanta housewife Deshawn Snow revealed in a recent interview with OK! magazine some new projects  she currently has in works since appearing on the popular reality show, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”. Deshawn talks about getting her very own reality show, a children’s book, a cartoon series and her support of her fellow housewife Nene Leakes.

On Her Own Reality Show

“It’s kind of like Top Model meets Charm School,” DeShawn tells OK!. “We really want to give them a chance and the people we are looking for are people who have been given up on or they have given up on themselves, they had children at a young age or they were on drugs, whatever, because you can really turn your life around.”

On Being “Too Nice” For Reality TV
“Not everybody has as big a personality as NeNe (Leakes),” DeShawn tells OK!. “I thought I provided the balance. Not everybody’s up here and not everybody’s down here. I thought it was a good mix but I understand you need drama.”

On Supporting Her Fellow Housewives
“(My kids and I) were at Barnes and Noble for summer reading stuff and I saw (NeNe’s) book,” she says. “I was excited for her because I want to support her and they say ‘Mom, why are you buying her book?’ Because they remember her face. I said, ‘well why not? I want to support her. One day Mommy’s books will be here too.”

I was actually disappointed to see her go. I would agree with Deshawn when she said she brought balance to the show. We love drama! But it’s good when someone helps to balance out the equation! All drama is not good all the time.

Steve Harvey certainly has a reason to smile.

*The recession has nothing on Steve Harvey. The veteran radio jock – who has often carried two or three jobs at a time – just got another new gig courtesy of ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

The comedian will contribute family and relationship-related segments to the morning program, with his first report scheduled to air tomorrow today (Aug. 19).

The 52-year-old Harvey will continue to host his nationally-syndicated Steve Harvey Morning Show, heard in 60 markets around the nation. He also just finished hosting his annual Hoodie Awards, which honors local businesses, churches and high schools for their community contributions.

Harvey authored the best-selling book “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man,” and he previously starred in his self-titled sitcom for seven seasons on the WB network.

His book, “Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man” is definitely a must read. Very truthful, honest and straight to the point. Can’t wait to see his advice special on “Good Morning America”. Congrats Steve.

In a candid interview with Life & Style magazine comedian Mo’nique reveals her weight lost and how it’’s changed her life so far.

“The sex is better! I have so much more energy . I can move around better, and that’s what it’s all about. I want to lose more, so I’ll just keep eating better and exercising, and the weight will come off,” she says. “It took time to put in on, and it will take time to take if off. It’s still okay to be big, but let’s be big and healthy. I had to lose some weight to get healthier because I want to be around for a while. I have twin sons who are 3 and a son who is 19, and I want the opportunity to meet their children.”

The reason bloggers don’t like her is because she spits beautiful quotes on twitter, but sends harassing e-mails about old pictures, leave comments under fake names, and plant stories. ( I have the proof!) So sorry I don’t feel sorry for her, and I don’t think her skin color is the issue here. There are many dark skin women that we love and whose beauty we admire at MrsGrapevine.com: Nia Long, Naomi Campbell, Meagan Good, Vanessa Williams  of the Soul Food series, Gabrielle Union, Taral Hicks, Kelly Rowland, Malinda Williams, Chrisette Michelle, Jazmine, Jill Scott and the list goes on and on…

Often dark-skinned women are considered mean, domineering and standoffish and it was these very labels that followed Michelle Obama during the campaign for her husband’s presidency and which she has had to work tirelessly to combat. I was appalled when I heard a Black woman refer to Michelle Obama as unattractive. The conversation turned into why President Obama picked her as his mate. No one in the witch-hunt made reference to the possibility that Michelle Obama was smart, funny, caring, a good person, highly accomplished or brilliant. Nor did they mention that she previously was President Obama’s supervisor. If she were fair skinned, petite with long straight or wavy hair, would the same opinions be linked to her? I seriously doubt it. It is believed that for the dark skinned, dreams are less obtainable.

In fact, I have read similar comments about myself that I am “dark, aggressive, bossy and bitchy.” It has been stated that my husband should have been with a “younger, more beautiful” woman. Astoundingly, the majority of the remarks come from African-American women and are mimicked by others. Sadly enough, I don’t know nor have I met 99% of those making these assertions. Funny, how we can judge another without having personally seen, interacted with or experienced a person’s character……….

Reading magazines, social media sites, watching our music videos, and television shows feed our appetites for all things ‘beauty”. Rarely, however do I see depictions of grace and elegance in the form of dark complexioned women. I Googled one of the more ethnic models, Alek Wek and I was saddened by the tone of what the bloggers wrote in reference to her complexion, features and hair texture. Ms. Wek’s escape from Sudan, her journey, philanthropy, and groundbreaking success as a supermodel in America is not only beautiful, but it displays her tenacity and character. African-Americans seemed to have lost their eye for character.

Later she writes about her near death experience in Brazil while undergoing a cosmetic procedure.

I too have fallen prey, while on vacation in Brazil I decided to undergo tummy lipo-surgery. After having an allergic reaction to the anesthesia, I went into cardiac arrest before the procedure ever began. I nearly lost my life over something as superficial as having a flatter mid-section and trying to adapt to society’s traditional definition of beauty. As I nursed my psychological wounds, I began to realize that trying to live up to the prototypes of external beauty paled in comparison to the fact that I have undergone labor, subsequently being blessed to raise five handsome, smart, healthy, intuitive, and happy children. I emerged from my ordeal realizing that my body is an amazing vessel that has given birth to life and that being healthy is what’s important and nothing more.

Abdul announced late Monday night on her official Twitter page that she will not be returning to the highly popular show.

“With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to IDOL. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon,” the statement said on Abdul’s verified Twitter account.

A statement from Fox and the companies that produce the show verified that Abdul was leaving.

“Paula Abdul has been an important part of the ‘American Idol’ family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show,” the statement said. “While Paula will not be continuing with us, she’s a tremendous talent and we wish her the best.”

Fans had been posting comments on social network sites for over a week wondering whether Abdul was going to return to the show.

Abdul’s new manager, David Sonenberg, was quoted by the Los Angeles Times last month saying “Very sadly, it does not appear that she’s going to be back on ‘Idol.’”

Sonenberg told the newspaper it was “unnecessarily hurtful” to Abdul that they have not received “any proposal whatsoever” from producers even though the judges will start auditioning contestants for the next season on August 6.

Abdul, singer-dancer turned ‘American Idol’ judge, was known for her positive nurturing comments to the singers participating in the shows. She was also known for her on-camera run-ins with Cowell and other judges in the show.

This is not surprising considering they added fourth judge Kara DioGuardi last season. I what ‘American Idol’ will be like now since Paula is gone. Mr. West took to his blog to recant reports claiming he called himself the next ‘King Of Pop’ earlier this week . Here’s what he said.

“I was just listening to Wendy Williams’ [radio show] and heard some quote about me saying I’m the new King of Pop,” he wrote. “Not only did I not say that, I haven’t said anything. It makes me feel bad that obviously I made people feel that I would be corny enough to say something so whack after the passing of an idol, a legend and, more than that, a human being with feelings and family.

“It scares me to think what people will believe, without even a source,” he continued. “Any random person can type something on the internet and then the world believes it. I don’t talk to press or do TV or do promotions of any sort. I’ve stopped chasing and buying into fame. Fame is like cigarettes with no surgeon general warning. It destroys most people as it did to the true and only King of Pop. We exploit ourselves and eat our own egos ’till there is nothing left. I have a feeling that this won’t be the last false statement with my name on it, but this will be the last time I defend myself. I’m done.

I’m glad he was able to clear this up, cuz lord knows the MJ fans were gonna come out swinging.

The Dream will call it quits when his next album “Love King” is released.

“I am engaged and ‘Love King’ IS going to be my last album,” The Dream wrote on Twitter this week.

“It is going to be last bcuz everybody is trying to “KILL THE DREAM!’”

News of The-Dream making retirement plans, follows his official engagement to recording star/actress Christina Milian.

Milian and The Dream, posing for the last issue of Vibe Magazine, confirmed their engagement earlier this month but have not revealed wedding plans.

While The-Dream is retiring from putting his own music out, he will remain a producer and continue writing.

“[I] will still be producing, writing, and featuring on other artists album though.”

During a recent interview with Essence mag former R&B group, Xscape’s, member Kandi Burrus explains the idea behind the name B.L.O.G (B*tches Love Online Gossip) for her pending album to be released later this year.

“I came up with the concept based on things that were going that were relevant to what’s going on in my life now including the show and what things have been written about me and my fiancée by bloggers,” she admits. “The whole album isn’t about the show but there are definitely songs inspired from the show like “Fly Above,” and “It Must Be Good.”
“B.L.O.G.,” which is scheduled for a September release, will also feature “Superwoman,” a duet and anthem for single mothers with Burruss’s dear friend, former Xscape member and T.I.’s fiancée, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle. Other guest artists include Rick Ross, Gucci Man and Rashieda.

I actually think that’s a really clever name to give her album. I’m looking forward to hearing what the album will sound like, especially her duet with Tiny.

Reps from Kelis’ camp has released this statement about the birth of Nas and Kelis’ son Knight Jones. Knight Jones, I’m kinda digging that name.

Kelis gave birth to Knight Jones last night on July 22nd around 9PM. Weighing a healthy 7.8lbs, the beautiful baby boy and his mother are doing wonderful. This was a natural birth and Kelis had been in labor since early Monday morning around 2AM. Knight was delivered in a NYC hospital with her mother and sister in the room.

Here’s What Kelis tweeted this morning:

Ok so I did it, he’s 7.8 pounds of the greatest stuff on earth…I was in labor for 3 of the longest most painful days of my life. I don’t understand when women say they don’t remember giving birth…I will remember for the rest of my life. He’s kinda perfect btw

That’s the silliest rumor I’ve ever heard. First let me categorically deny that, that’s not even my style. If I have a problem with Chris brown, I have a problem with Chris Brown. I haven’t said anything live or behind the scenes. I don’t agree with what he did and that’s it. But as far as not letting him perform on BET, that’s ridiculous, that’s stupid and that’s a sucker move. I wouldn’t do it. And people commenting on rumors, that’s a sucker move.

On The Game’s Diss Track:

“Tell me exactly what I said….(Tim: you mentioned his name, Jim Jones’ name, Dame Dash’s name…) I said I’m not talking about, this, this. I’m not…is that a diss? ‘Oh, you hurt my feelings.’ Tell groupie (The Game) to get over it…if that’s a diss, then wear that. Tell groupie to get over it.”

That was very well said until he responded about The Game. Still confused about that one.

Overseas on tour promoting her album ‘In A Perfect World’, Keri Hilson was asked who she would prefer between Kanye and Ne-Yo. Here’s what Keri had to say, interesting….

“That’s hard because there are things I like about both. Ne-Yo is a gentlemen. For real- in real life. He’s sensitive and sweet and probably cuddly. He’s the guy you would pillow talk with. Kanye on the other hand, he would probably talk about himself a lot but he’s incredible swag. He’s very confident, has a great sense of style and makes incredible music- well both of them do. I don’t know. I probably would like a guy with a little bit more edge than Ne-Yo, so it might be leaning closer to Kanye, but I can take a lot more edge than Kanye.”
