I have to admit. I, Ms. Toni, have a HUGE crush on Dwayne Johnson. Part of the reason I chose the picture below is because it looks like he’s pointing at me like “I want YOU”. And I’m like “OK!!!” But, I digress. Dwayne was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night, talking about his new movie Journey 2 and his life.

During the interview he recapped stories of when he once attacked a mascot for taunting his team when he was in college, what his mother actually did that made him put a red carpet appearance on hold minutes before he had to step out and he refers to his, uhh, “twins” as boulders. He also shows his other talent and breaks out into song. If this world were mine, I’d have him and President Obama record a song. For all the women of the world. Now if THIS actually sees the light of day…I’m kind of scared for the city of Houston, Texas. According to My Fox Houston, two gentlemen by the names of Marcus Mitchell and Steve White says they have plans to erect a monument for Houston born Beyonce, right in the city. The pair feel like a monument shouldn’t come after the superstar has passed — tribute should be given while she’s still alive. They say they have the support of the mayor of Houston and are looking for private donors for the construction via their company, Armdeonce Ventures. So what are their plans for this monument?

“We wanted to construct, like, a massive hall so as the doors open, if you donated to the monument, you’ll have a separate nameplate,” Marcus said. “There will be clips of Beyonce with Destiny’s Child and wardrobe like a mini museum.”

I have MAD questions, yo. First, why are you conducting this interview via webcam in, what looks like, someone’s dining room? And why is the company’s website filled with misspellings, spacing issues and general editing mistakes? I won’t even mention that it’s a website generated from one of those free website hosts. Their description of the monument sounds more like an entertainment venue. And…I don’t know. I just get a general sense of “this sounds like a bunch of shadiness” about this story, but may it’s just me. Check out the interview after the jump and see what kind of feel you get from it…

Singer Etta James (nèe Jamesetta Hawkins; January 25 1938) has passed away at the age of 73 battling dementia and Hepatitis C, shortly before her 74th birthday. An extraordinary woman, James possessed a voice that is deeply soulful, or as she called it deeply, “blue”. Often imitated, and in my opinion, NEVER duplicated. So many singers have covered James’s signature song, At Last, but no other version can compare to Ms Etta’s version, including the original version first performed by Glenn Miller. The original self-proclaimed bad girl of music, Etta James is quite feisty, outspoken, vulgar, and not afraid of a little grit. James can get dirty with the best of them, and that is why her music is so raw and emotional. She has overcome leukemia and battled a serious addiction to heroin. She leaves behind two musician sons, Donto and Sametto.

Today, in a new generation, many young people know Etta James as the woman portrayed by Beyonce in Cadillac Records, a movie about Chess Records where Etta James was first signed. True to form of speaking her mind, Etta James is also infamous for attacking President Obama and Beyonce. James didn’t appreciate Beyonce trying to steal her song during Obama’s inauguration, and she let both of them have it:

I can’t stand Beyonce…You know, YOUR President, the one with the big ears-he ain’t MY President–had that woman singing for him at his Inauguration. She’s going to get her ass whooped. How dare Beyonce sing MY song that I been singing forever.

After seven years of not having an official host, LL Cool J has been chosen as the host of this year’s 54th Annual Grammy Awards. That’s a pretty big deal! The last time The Grammys had an official host was Queen Latifah, back in 2005.

“I’m thrilled to be part of Music’s Biggest Night,” said LL COOL J. “I will always have fond memories of my first GRAMMY Awards and to now be hosting the GRAMMY show, in the company of so many other incredible artists, is a dream come true. Great performances and great music — it’s gonna be a great night!”

Congrats on that, LL! LL has been hosting The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown To Music’s Biggest Night events since it began in December 2008. He’s put in some time with the folks over at The Grammys, so it’s nice to see his hard work pay off in a big way. The night will also include a first time opportunity for nominee Nicki Minaj…This will be her first time performing on the show. I’m kind of interested in what kind of show she’ll put on for the crowd, knowing of her past…umm…unique? Extreme?…ways of performing. Common Vs. Drake: Who Won?

It’s my personal belief that rap beef is one of the most pointless things ever. Well, maybe not totally pointless, because “it’s provocative…it gets the people going…” (CC: N****s In Paris) and can stir up interest and record sales butterum…yeah. I could do without it. So when I heard that Common and Drake had a beef going via the good people at MTV, I laughed.

I mean, think about this. Common and Drake. Those are two different eras of hip hop. Just on reputation and legendary status alone, I’d say that Common is way out of Drake‘s league. Drake probably look(ed) up to Common as an inspiration. But Drake has something that the young people of rap today love (the ability to sing j/k). Word on the street is that this beef is brewing over Serena Williams. So Common pulled a pretty damn bold move and remixed the track that Drake dissed Common on. Listen to Stay Schemin, the Remix, and hear both rappers go back and forth. I mean, Common just flat out says Drake‘s name. Who do you think won?

The NBC hit show, The Voice, will return for a second season on Sunday, February 05, 2012.

Carson Daly returns to host and Cee-Lo, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton also return to make up the coaches for the second season of NBC’s musical competition.

If you remember from last year, the first stage of the competition is a ‘blind audition’, where contestants are judged purely on their vocals and not their looks, then they battle it out amongst themselves before the live shows begin. Winner receives a recording contract and $100k. Javier Colon won in 2011.

There is so much to love about The Voice, but one of my favorite components was the interactive social media action going on during the show. The live-tweeting and helping the contestants build their social media presence was on point.

Recently hip hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs sat down to in an interview with DJ Whoo Kid for RadioPlanet. In the interview Diddy talked about his relationship with Jay-Z, who inspires him and the “black cloud” over Bad Boy Records.

Over the last couple of years, it’s been a strong propaganda movement that has been brewing, like, in the negative sense, against Bad Boy…against, like, what it is to sign to the Bad Boy label and like is it a detriment to your career…it’s regular hate and also a lot of people also not understanding how this industry works. This is a hard industry, this is not for kids, this is not for the weak…if you’re weak, you’ll get eaten alive.

Hmmm…well, I don’t know about you, but I feel some kind of way about this.The general public isn’t in the entertainment industry, that’s true. But I think as a music consumer, and not really a rookie to how artists are brought to our attention and supported by record labels, there’s a clear distinction between Bad Boy Records‘ history and the history of other record labels. I personally hear about people getting signed by Diddy…but then that’s it. Remember Ness from the very first season of Making The Band? Diddy called him the next Biggie at one point. I haven’t heard from homeboy since. Hell, all of them have pretty much been unheard of since then. But, maybe Diddy is right. Maybe they’re all victims to the industry. But you tell me: Is Diddy correct? Is Bad Boy just getting a bad rap? Or is Bad Boy Records actually the musical no man’s land? Share your thoughts!Similar Posts:

Melanie Amaro wins X Factor, and is now $5 million richer. Honestly, I was rooting for Josh Krajcik, because his voice is gritty and soulful, but after watching Melanie Amaro perform Listen the night before eliminations, I knew she was the person to beat. I am happy she won. The night ended with an emotional Melanie full of joy and tears, praising God for her win, “God is good.” The funniest moment of the night is when the host, Steve Jones, chases Melanie all around the stage trying get a comment from Melanie on her win, but she’s too emotional to speak. Steve even tried to interrupt her while she’s on her knees praying, like she’s going to put God on pause just to give Steve a sound bite.

AND now I must write about Paula Abdul’s color-block outfit. While Melanie was on stage trying to sing through her emotions, I didn’t notice what Paula Abdul was wearing. The dim lights and the judge’s table, hid most of her outfit, and she appeared cute from the waist up. But now, we have the red carpet pics of the whole outfit, and I am wondering if this is a color-block fail:

Last night on The X-Factor finale, Melanie Amaro performed I Believe I Can Fly. And halfway through, who comes out to join her? None other than R. Kelly. Kellz was admitted to a hospital back in July in Chicago, to have an absess removed from his tonsils. He cancelled a number of live shows as a part of the healing process, but finally was ready to perform.

After the performance, Ruh took to Twitter to talk about what it meant for him to be up on stage again:

To have been thru what I have been thru – having throat surgery and not only unable to sing, but not even able to talk – and to end up on the stage of X Factor tonight shows the true power of God.

I no R. Kelly fan but I can’t deny the man sings I Believe I Can Fly with every ounce of power with him. And it’s no wonder. It’s an incredible song. I almost became a fan. Again. Check out the live performance, including the comments from Paula, Simon, Nicole and L.A. Reid, after the jump…

VH1 Divas Will Honor Amy Winehouse Tonight

VH1 will have their yearly VH1 Divas show, with a hodgepodge of singers, who I personally only count maybe half as officially in “diva” status. Look at the headlining “diva” lineup and let me know if I’m wrong: Mary J Blige, Jill Scott, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Florence + The Machine and Jessie J.

See what I mean? On paper, this sounds like it might be…interesting, to say the least. But VH1 may redeem themselves with the 2 big announcements: the artists will be backed on stage by incredibly awesome hip hop band The Roots and the show will include a tribute to Amy Winehouse. All great stuff! But the performers they’ve lined up?? Ummm…just see who’ll be doing what, after the jump…

The tribute will reflect Winehouse’s contribution to modern, London soul music. Some highlights of the tribute will include Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings performing “You Know I’m No Good,” and Florence Welch (Florence + The Machine) and Wanda Jackson will perform her song “Back to Black.” The Dap-Kings contributed a number of tracks for Winehouse’s Grammy Award-winning album “Back to Black.” In addition, Nas, who collaborated with Winehouse on the first single of her current posthumous album, will introduce the tribute medley.

Diggy Simmons has been spreading Christmas love all over New York City, while doing several holiday charity events. Diggy made an appearance at New York Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, visiting the bedside of kids who will be spending Christmas in the hospital this year. The young Simmons took time out to past out gift bags, and take pictures with his young fans. After leaving the children’s hospital, Diggy Simmons stopped by the St. Jude Holiday party at Brooks Brothers, where he decorated cookies, ornaments, and Christmas cards with the young patients of St. Jude. Nice to see young kids giving back.

BTW, Diggy is growing up fast; he’s tall and skinny now. More pics when you continue…

Astro shot down rumors that he has signed with Roc Nation, but it’s strange to a blogger like me that Astro is attending a private Roc Nation sponsored event. By strange I mean a mere coincidence.
