The 2012 BET Awards Nominees have been released. Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Beyonce have received the bulk of the nominations. Kanye West leads the field with seven nods, Beyonce receives six nominations, edging out hubby Jay-Z who has five. This year’s host will be Samuel L Jackson with performances by Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown. Frankie Beverly & Maze will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, which they so deserve. Nicki Minaj is guaranteed to win best female rapper again, maybe next year she will have more competition in her category. I can’t wait to see the old school surprise this year, it’s always my favorite part of the show. I am certain their will be a Whitney Houston tribute, can’t wait to find out who will be honoring The Voice (aka Whitney).

Now if there’s anyone that I love more than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, it’s this man here.  He has a standing marriage proposal from me. Just need him to say yes! LOL  R&B crooner Maxwell just announced that a new single for his next album SUMMERS’ will be coming soon.

For those that don’t know, BLACKsummers’night, his last album, was the first in a trilogy.  Originally, the trilogy was to be released within three years, BUT as us real Maxwell fans know, that man moves at his own pace.  And it’s always worth it. Maxwell continued to tease us with this picture and just a lyric snippet of the new single.  He hasn’t even hinted on exactly when it will be released but I’m loving what I’m seeing so far:

Ray J has been in a lot of drama lately, and the Ray J saga continues. During the Billboard Music Awards Ray J and Pat Houston gets into a little altercation when Ray J takes it upon himself to move out of his designated seat, to sit next to Bobbi Kristina and the Houston family, uninvited. He does this right before the Whitney Houston tribute begins. Pat Houston calls security on Ray J, Ray J refuses to move. Things are getting physical when Pat finally changes her mind to avoid a huge confrontation that would have been caught on film over shadowing the tribute. Now Ray J is wrong for what he did (publicity stunt), but this is the second time Pat has been accused of foul play behind the scenes. We all know from the Oprah Winfrey interview that Pat does NOT like Ray J and she is awfully crafty at hiding her shade in a compliment.

Anyway that’s yesterday’s news. Today Ray J has been hospitalized for “fatigue and exhaustion,” after appearing disoriented in his hotel room. Get the details when you continue…

According to TMZ:

Ray J crashed and burned the morning after the Billboard Music Awards … and landed in the hospital … TMZ has learned.

We’re told Ray J was extremely upset after his confrontation with Whitney Houston‘s family — notably Pat Houston — during the awards ceremony.  On Monday morning, someone went into Ray J’s hotel room and realized the singer was “out of it” and couldn’t get out of bed.

We’re told Ray J was extremely disoriented and was immediately taken to the hospital by ambulance.

As for what happened … it’s looking like a combo of exhaustion and stress.  Ray J had just returned from a quick, 32-hour round trip to China and when he landed he immediately drove 4 hours to Las Vegas for the awards show.

Ray J is still in the hospital.  No word on when he’ll be released.

The stars hit the red carpet for yet another awards show, Billboard Music Awards. Like all awards shows there are some highlights and some low-lights. Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz hit the red carpet, dressed in black and white. That dress is working the mess out of Alicia Keys hips. I definitely saw more tweets regarding Alicia Keys’ hips than I saw tweets about Stevie Wonder’s hairline or Bobbi Kristina’s dress and wig. But I will just leave those tweets to your imagination, and focus on Alicia Keys in this dress, oh and Swizz Beatz, too.

Black and white are the colors of choice for couples on the #BBMA red carpet. Monica and husband, Shannon Brown, hit the red carpet in black and white, along with Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa, and Jason Derulo and Jordan Sparks. Speaking of Jordan Sparks…

I think she did a great job of honoring Whitney Houston by singing I Will Always Love You. Sure she is no Whitney Houston, but who is? People have undeliverable expectations when it comes to these awards show tributes, including myself. I have finally come to the realization that if the singer doesn’t fall off the stage or forget the words, then that’s the best we can hope to expect at a tribute. John Legend and Jordan Sparks didn’t fall off the stage and didn’t forget the words. So there you have it…I no longer have unrealistic expectations of these award shows tributes. Because every time I get my hopes up for an epic Whitney or Michael Jackson tribute, I am unfortunately left with, “Meh!“ and a shoulder shrug.

Brandy looks amazing in her dress. LMFAO clean up at the awards. Either you get LMFAO or you just don’t. Unfortunately I DO get them and I am a FAN. Chris Brown definitely gives us the visuals on stage shirtless with a fur coat in his mammy Tupac scarf and tail, BUT he received a lot of backlash from his peers for lip syncing. Singer Pink is his biggest critics, tweeting these words:

one day if I lipsync, I hope I do it as well as him…

Last but not least, I am touched when Bobbi Kristina accepts the Billboard Millennium Award on her mother’s behalf wearing a dress similar to one Whitney once wore, and all my other thoughts on the subject are left better yet unsaid. So I leave you with these words from Bobbi Kristina’s acceptance speech:

I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s supported us through it all. Not just from when it was good, but when it was bad, too. Just everything! R&B super star, Usher Raymond kicked off this year’s Toyota Concert Series this morning on The Today Show.

In his first-ever “Today” concert, the seven-time Grammy award winner rocked out in Rockefeller Plaza performing “OMG,” “Without U” and his new hits “Climax”(my favorite) and “Scream.”

This year’s line-up includes his protege Justin Bieber(June 15th) and Chris Brown (June 8th), two superstars who set record-breaking crowds in previous “Today” concerts. The 2012 series will also feature Pitbull (May 25th) and Flo Rida (July 6th).

This year, “Today” is partnering with Pandora to extend the concert series beyond the Plaza and into the digital space.

I started crying. I cried for 10 minutes really, really hard in my pillow. It was aggressive. I don’t cry loads. If I cry it’s because I’m very angry and I can’t do anything about it, because I’ve run into a dead end.

So now, I’m like, ‘One good night of rest.’ I get in bed, and it must have been two hours in before my phone started going off. I was so frustrated I kept ignoring the phone.  Every time it would go off, but every time I would ignore it. But it would be another burden on my shoulders, ’cause I know it has to get done.

I know [I was] sick, but I’m the only person who can get it done, so it was so frustrating, so I was angry. I was so angry, I was so overwhelmed that I was sick. It felt crazy. {Source}

Yeah, you read that right.  No, I’m not kidding.  The good people at TMZ got their hands on a clip of her song. No word if she’s gonna change her name to something like C. As we predicted, Jermaine Paul wins NBC’s The Voice last night. The former Alicia Keys background singer, proved that he deserves to be in the spotlight and America agreed. He was our favorite from day one!

It’s also amazing how Blake Shelton, one of country music’s biggest stars and who isn’t usually up for much of the strong R&B talent, was able to mentor and coach, Jermaine Paul to the top, but he did an amazing job throughout the entire competition.

The two-night season finale was packed with the most powerful, soulful and heavy-hitting performances that I’ve seen from a reality TV show competition in recent memory. I’m looking forward to hearing more from Jermaine Paul. Not only does he have a voice that R&B needs today, but he is already developed and experienced from touring with Alicia Keys and now doing live TV. He’s got a great look and can probably experiment with acting and modeling, but for now I am sure he is ready to hit the studio and work on an album through the recording contract he has won through the show.

Eff cancer! I would like to end the post there, but I can’t. Adam Yauch aka MCA was founder of the best alternative rap group EVER!!!… is dead. Remaining members of the Beastie Boys confirm the news via their website:

It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam “MCA” Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old.

Yauch’s mother Frances told the New York Times that her son died at 9 a.m. Friday, surrounded by family, at Manhattan’s New York-Presbyterian Hospital, to which he had been admitted on April 14. {via Huff Post}

It’s hurts! It just feels like all of the greats of our time is just passing away. I have been traveling down memory lane a lot due to celebrity deaths. I remember going to sock hops and doing the Peter Piper and the Quake to Beastie Boys’ Brass Monkey and Paul Revere *in my rolled up jeans with three different pair of colored socks*.  Yes, I realized I just told my age because most of you don’t know what a sock-hop is let along the Peter Piper or the Quake, or how to properly roll jeans. From Paul Revere (1986) to Sabotage and Get It Together with Q-Tip (1998), I loved me some Beastie Boys. So What’cha What’cha Want…There is some good news, too. Adam Yauch (MCA) and the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock-&-Roll Hall of Fame, before his untimely death. The induction will air this Saturday (tomorrow May 5th) on HBO. Rappers Chuck D and LL Cool J introduced the Beastie Boys…His fellow Beasties, Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and Michael “Mike D” Diamond, collected their trophy in person but declined to perform without their comrade. Instead, the Roots linked up with Kid Rock and Travie McCoy to perform a medley of Beastie tunes that included “No Sleep Till Brooklyn,” “So What’cha Want,” “Sabotage” and “The New Style.” {Source}

Last night, R&B crooner Brian McKnight tried his hand at making himself a trending topic.  And it worked.  Brian decided he was going to make an “adult mixtape” and in doing so, released the first song he’s completing.  And Twitter went crazy.

The song is called Let Me Show You How Your P***y Works. Yes, I’m serious.  Brian pleads about letting him show you how to work it, over a track that sounds like it’s more at place on a Georgia Mass Choir CD than anything.  I just…I mean, I GUESS I know what he was going for…but he doesn’t have it yet.  Maybe he should just let other people handle the raunchy.  Or at least seek them out for advice before something like this happens.  Watch the video (If you’re at work, turn your speakers down because he DOES indeed say the P word), when you continue…

I can’t say that I’ve seen much choreography from Rihanna, especially in music videos.  I think the last that I really saw was in Pon De Replay. But Rihanna takes a break in a busy schedule to work on some dance moves for her upcoming video for her next single Where Have You Been.

Coming straight to you with no makeup and censor free, we get a look at the superstar’s choreography work and dedication to perfecting her craft.  Choreographer Hi Hat even tells a story about RiRi eating dinner the night before, as she was standing and practicing her dance moves.  Not bad!  The song is heavy in the beat so I expect something pretty dramatic and energetic.  Check out the video, when you continue…

Nicki Minaj second weeks sales are not looking so hot right now. Roman Reloaded top the charts last week selling 253,000 units. In its second week out, Roman Reloaded, falls to the number three spot selling 76,598 units, which is 70% less than last week. Lionel Richie’s album, Tuskegee, which is a country remake of his best hits from the 80′s takes the #1 spot its third week out. Adele’s 21 rounds out the charts at number two, selling 90,837.

Before Nicki Minaj deleted her twitter account and turned on her Barbz, she and Adele were running neck and neck in the sales games. Nicki Minaj’s Roman Reloaaded was on target to sale 90,000 units, but ended the week not meeting those sales projections. I love an under-dog story, and though I am not a Nicki Minaj fan, I’m still rooting for her success! Obviously, it’s not over for the rapper/pop singer, one hit from Roman Reloaded could turn these numbers around in a week. A public apology to the Barbz and Kens (fans) on twitter wouldn’t hurt either…

Time to break out that garage band and get those mixtapes together, because if you want a real shot on stage with Drake, your time has come.  According to MSN Music, Drake has launched a search for a new opening act online.  His new tour will launch this summer and with it, possibly launch a brand new music act into mainstream stardom.

Lauryn Hill hit the stage at Indigo O2 in London with freshly cut hair.  Before performing Lauryn Hill lets the crowd know that the old Lauryn Hill is back. The new Lauryn Hill received some bad reviews due to her excessive tardiness, erratic and eccentric behavior, and unnecessary remixes to the great Lauryn Hill classics:

On Monday night’s episode of NBC’s The Voice, rapper Wiz Khalifa joined coach and Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine to perform the first new single “Payphone” from the group’s highly anticipated fourth album “Overexposed”.

Also Blake and Christina performed alongside the four artists on their respective teams.


Jermaine Paul kills it yet again. He’s so hot and dreamy! He’s already a superstar in my book. He has a way of making each and every song his own no matter what genre of music they throw at him. I am so impressed with the way Blake is managing him throughout this process so far.

The Voice for whatever reason added a new twist to the show. Xtina and Blake were forced into an instant elimination of one contestant before the show ended. I can’t believe Jesse Campbell was eliminated. That was a huge surprise. Next, Blake eliminated Jordis. It’s almost like we are watching the show in development stages live on television. The judges seemed a little confused. I guess to cut down on the selection of who America can vote for they had the judges make their choice first. Next, we will see who America eliminates.
