I don’t think this is a surprise for anyone but Beyoncé has been named the world’s most beautiful woman by People Magazine.  After a year of celebrating life, marriage and motherhood, I actually think this is on-time for her.  There’s something about a woman in love and truly happy that just oozes beauty.

“I feel more beautiful than I’ve ever felt because I’ve given birth,” says PEOPLE’s 2012 World’s Most Beautiful Woman. “I have never felt so connected, never felt like I had such a purpose on this earth.”

It definitely shows.  You aren’t likely to catch her with anything but a smile on her face nowadays.  Congratulations to her!  She also takes some time to discuss her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter and goes in on who she thinks the little one resembles:

So who does her daughter most resemble? “She looks like Blue,” says Beyoncé, who is back to her pre-pregnancy weight and gearing up for her first post-baby concerts, Memorial Day weekend at the Revel Atlantic City. “She’s her own person.”

“The best thing about having a daughter is having a true legacy,” she adds. “The word ‘love’ means something completely different now.”

I don’t care who you are.  If you were a child of the 70s or 80s, at one point in time in your life, especially if you were a little girl, you liked The Spice Girls. Admittedly, I liked Mel B originally because she was the only black one but I grew to like her Scary Spice attitude, which was more spunk than scare.  Throughout the years she’s been making music here and there but Mel B recently announced on her website that she re-signed with EMI Music Australia, after originally signing with them back in 1994.

Currently recording new material to be released in late 2012, Mel B had this to share about the signing, “I’m overly excited to finally announce this amazing global partnership deal back home with EMI Music. I know I have mentioned doing music in the past but for legal reasons I was not in a position to release any new music. For my fans, I am happy and proud to say my music WILL be heard this year and that is for sure a promise I’m over the moon to say the least. Love me or hate me, scary spice is back, hahahaha!!!”

It’s amazing that she even has time to record, with her family, her gig with The X-Factor: Australia, her workout business, her lollipop business and her deal with Weight Watchers Australia! I think Nicki Minaj has utilized nearly every color in the ROY G BIV rainbow spectrum in her hair so far. But Nicki decides to nix any flashy colors and goes fairly minimalist with a short white bob on the cover of the 10th Anniversary edition of Complex Magazine. There’s also a pretty bold alternative cover with pop prince Justin Bieber that made me pause for a minute. It’s hard to make Nicki seem like the tame one but he did it…

In her interview, Nicki talks about making goals in her musical career and meeting her own personal expectations:

When you’re constantly exceeding your own expectations, how do you set new goals?
Doing the Super Bowl with Madonna doesn’t really change Nicki Minaj’s personal goals. My goal right now is still to put out Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, sell five million copies eventually, and tour every country in the world. That’s what I’ve been working toward. So while the world is talking about, “Oh my God, I can’t believe Nicki Minaj was at the Super Bowl!” I’m mixing and mastering my music. In my scheme of things it’s way bigger.

And, in a surprise to me, she even discusses her future and marriage plans.  I don’t see Nicki going that route, just because she’s so over the top and constantly moving that the idea of slowing down to get married and have a family seems a reach…but if there’s one thing Nicki likes to do is surprise people.  See what she said about her future love life, when you continue…

This being Complex’s 10th Anniversary issue, it seems fitting to look forward to the next 10 years… Where do you think you’ll be in 2022?

I know you’ve seen a lot of buzz about T.I. and this blond bombshell, Iggy Azalea. Last night I searched through Youtube, falling in love with her angles and appreciating her style, but not sure if I can call her the truth. Today, she covers XXL Magazine on the Freshman Class 2012 issue; the first female rapper in the history of the list. But who is she really?

From the looks of this cover with French Montana, rap music has certainly gone global and multicultural, with Iggy Azalea as the face of globalization. I never thought I would see a white Australian girl on the cover of XXL magazine for her rapping skills, and yet, Iggy Azalea has people talking in 2012. *Side-bar* I will take Iggy all day every day over Kreayshawn and the White Girl Mob. I’m so glad, y’all didn’t let Kreayshawn be great!!!  So anyway, meet Iggy Azalea, born Amethyst Kelly in New South Wales, Australia. With a stage name like Amethyst, how did she become known as Iggy. Simple, it was the name of her dead dog:

It was my dog’s name growing up. That’s weird, right? My dead dog. He was the coolest. He was half pit and half Australian cattle dog. My dad got him when I was a baby. I had him my whole life growing up and he was this crazy dog. He would fight all the dogs in the neighborhood. My next door neighbor, they were breeders, and he f*cked their girl dog and when it had babies, their little babies came out and they were the wrong color. And they hated our guts after that. They wanted him dead. He would bite people, have fights with other dogs, he got bitten by a snake so he was paralyzed, we took him to the vet, I thought he was going to die. He never died! We had to get him put down when I was 18 because his legs stopped working, but this motherf**ker would not let go. He was the coolest. {Source}

Izzy Azalea has a strong appreciation of art, which is reflected in her pop art-styled videos. Her hip-hop inspirations are Tupac (yes!) and Andre 3000 (yes!)

Andre 3000. Tupac too. I just want to talk about Andre because everybody knows I’m obsessed with Tupac and we all know why he’s great. But I love Andre! He’s f**king cool to me. Aquemini, man that was my sh*t! For real. That’s my favorite Outkast album. I just love Andre because I just loved how he never dressed like a rapper is supposed to and when they had Speakerboxxx and he was singing, I was like, ‘damn, he’s really pushing the borders on what a rapper’s supposed to be.’ I love Andre 3000, man. He’s the coolest. I want to meet him so bad

Iggy does not like being compared to other white female rappers, here are her thoughts on Kreayshawn:

I think it sucks because I just feel like there are so many other artists that you could say I rap like, like Shawna. I can see that more, than saying I spit like Kreayshawn. We don’t have the same cadence. To me it’s like, ‘OK, that sucks because music isn’t supposed to be about race or color.’ I have a vagina and I have white skin so I get compared to Kreayshawn and that’s what annoys me about it.

If Iggy is stranded on a desert island, she would share the island with the men she love most, one being her dad who draws cartoons and owns a banana plantation (must be Australian for farm) and the other Tupac. If she could bring these three albums to the island, she chooses:

Nas, Tupac & Outlaws Still I Rise, and I would take a Missy album just because she’s a female rapper and she’s f**king cool and I love her videos.

…Tupac, even though he’s dead. He still exists. I know so many cool people. Who do I love? I love my dad. He’s pretty crazy. He has a banana plantation and he draws cartoons. I love him. He’s like the coolest, understanding person ever.

Stardom doesn’t come without controversy, according to Necole Bitchie, a black female rapper by the name of Azaelia Banks already has some beef brewing with Iggy over some “perceived” racist lyrics. *sigh*

So how does one treat themselves after winning a Golden Globe & a Screen Actor’s Guild award and being a favorite for this year’s Oscars?  Well, if you are one Octavia Spencer, then the answer is simple: a boob lift!  Octavia sat down with the people of Parade Magazine and talked candidly about how her life has changed since filming The Help and what her plans are from here forward.

Have you gotten yourself a splurge gift? 

“Well, I am going to get my boobs lifted. That’s going to be my first gift. I’m going to do that. I figured going into my forties I want my boobs where they were when I was 17.”

Well, alright then!  Octavia has had an interesting life so far.  When she first moved to Hollywood, her car broke down and she received help from Keanu Reeves and still goes to his movies on opening weekend because of it. She’s one of seven children and would have studied law, if she could have afforded it. Wow!  So, just when will she does she plan on treating herself with boob work? 

Are you doing that pre- or post-Oscars? 

“Oh definitely post because right after the Oscars I start a Diablo Cody movie. We’re taping out of the country for four months so I wouldn’t be back here until about August. So I would want to do this around November. Then that way I could just relax until January.”

I like Solange Knowles. She has her own style and flavor, after overcoming a touch of “I must emulate my older sister”-ism that I think was put upon her.  And it seems as if her fashion flair has been getting a lot of attention lately.  British Vogue has a monthly online photoblog feature called Today I’m Wearing, in which a celebrity shares pictures and a description of what they are rocking that day. And for the month of February, Solange has been sharing pic after pic of pure bohemian hotness.

Nicki Minaj turns blue for a new photo shoot with Vogue Magazine, and she looks amazing; EVEN with blue skin and pink wig. She reminds me of Marilyn Monroe by way of Avatar. In a new interview, True Colors: Nicki Minaj, which is featured online, Minaj talks about growing up as a tomboy and how the introduction of make-up changed her life.

I was dressing in Tommy Hilfiger baggy shirts and Boss jeans, but then I met a person who dressed like a tiny lady—pantsuits, heels, lots of makeup. I thought she was larger than life. She once did my makeup—I had never seen myself made up before. I didn’t want to wash it off; I felt like I had one day to live this fantasy of being a glamor girl.

Nicki Minaj also talks about recently moving into a condo to escape some “some bad memories” (*whispers* her alleged break-up with boyfriend Safaree); wanting to be a lawyer if she wasn’t famous, and most importantly, she once spent $50,000 on shoes and purses in one month.

On her recent move to a condo in LA:

She currently lives in a condo in L.A., where she moved for the weather but also to escape “some bad memories.” Though she declines to divulge much about her personal life, she readily admits to snuggling up in hotel beds, unwinding after a performance by watching Forensic Files and Judge Judy.

On shoe addiction:

“If I can combine designer things with other things, I’m a happy camper.” Not so with accessories. At one time she was spending $50,000 a month on “Giuseppe, Versace, YSL, and Fendi shoes. And I bought tons of Vuitton bags. When you’re a young girl from Queens, you’re going to stock up on those bags.”

Rapper Too $hort has been under heavy attack via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, online petitions and any other social media network people are getting their hands on.  XXL Magazine‘s Editor-In-Chief Vanessa Satten has also been feeling the fire.  According to AllHipHop.com, for some reason XXL Magazine posted a video on their site (which has since been removed) of Too $hort giving incredible offensive and criminal ‘love’ advice to young boys.

“When you get to late middle school, early high school and you start feeling a certain way about the girls. I’m gonna tell you a couple tricks,” Too Short says in the video. “A lot of the boys are going to be running around trying to get kisses from the girls. We’re going way past that. I’m taking you to the hole.”

Then, in graphic detail, the rapper offers some steps that young boys should follow to win a girl’s heart.

“Take your finger and put a little spit on it and you stick your finger in her underwear and you rub it on there and watch what happens,” the rapper said.

Why anyone would even asked Too $hort to give any advice to any youth in the first place, I’ll never know.  With songs to his credit with titles like B*tch I’m A Pimp and Shake That Monkey there really is no basis for this.  Too $hort took to Twitter to apologize, tweeting “When I got on camera I was in Too $hort mode and had a lapse of judgement.I would never advise a child or young man to do these things, it’s not how I get down.”  Even so, Vanessa Satten also has a lot to answer for. Why? Because she didn’t know this video was a problem until AFTER it was posted and she received complaints. Ummm…as an Editor-In-Chief, that’s a part of your job. Even if you don’t prescreen everything, you do that with the understanding that your title implies you did, and any backlash comes directly to you.  She issued an apology on the site:

“There has been some recent controversy surrounding a video interview with Too $hort that posted on XXLMag.com last week,” XXL Editor-in-Chief Vanessa Satten said in a statement posted on the magazine’s website.

“Many readers found the tone and content of the interview to be offensive and were angered that it was allowed to post on the website,” Satten said. “I agree with their perspective. I do not see all content before it goes live. When I saw this video, I was truly offended and thought it crossed the line. I had it taken down immediately. I am disappointed that an employee decided to post it and I am putting internal procedures in place to make sure content like this does not go on the site. The video goes against my value system and represents poor judgment on behalf of the individual who posted it.”

Jennifer Williams is just adding fuel to the wrath of Evelyn by giving her something to talk about with this magazine cover. I don’t know who to blame for this cover photo, but it doesn’t do Jennifer Williams any justice, and she’s such an attractive woman. J’adore Magazine really could have chosen a better picture for the cover…unless, they wanted people to take shots. I don’t understand the concept or get the theme. Is Jennifer Williams traveling all around the world trying to find her identity? There is simply too much going on between the color contacts, the Grecian-style dress, the headpiece covering her left eye making it look wonky, and the eastern meditation pose. I adore Jennifer Williams, mais je n’adore pas la photo là.

Every year, the good people at AskMen put out a survey to it’s manly readers and selects the top 99 women of the year. And it seems that this year, there’s been a little bit of spice and variety added to the list. Usual staples like Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie have fallen back a bit and more diverse and animated choices showed up this year.  Who holds to coveted number one spot? Modern Family‘s own Sofia Vergara.  So what makes her so desirable? Well, beside her ample…personality, this is what they had to say:

Yesterday, Amber Rose revealed that Kim Kardashian was one of the main reasons why she and Kanye West broke up. It seems Kim Kardashian was allegedly sending Kanye West racy pictures and lewd texts. The interview was conducted by Star Magazine, so naturally, I thought Amber’s statement was taken out of context, especially when she called Kim Kardashian a “home-wrecker”.

Last night Amber Rose confirmed the story as true while explaining the reason why she’s finally decided to speak out. But, that’s not all that she revealed. During her explanation, Amber Rose calls Wiz Khalifa her husband O_O although she and Wiz have been denying marriage rumors since September.

Rihanna has been in the news lately and none of it has been good. Womp. First, on Saturday during a concert in Portugal, Rihanna’s health struggles came to a head. It’s been no secret that she’s been battling everything from exhaustion to the flu during this tour. If it was me, I’d take this as a clue that my schedule needs to slow down. Not everyone can have a hectic tour run and perform top notch every night. But, despite doctor’s warnings, Rihanna kept pushing through shows.

Then, after way through performing her song What’s My Name, RiRi had to rush off stage…to throw up. Yeah. She even went on to Twitter later on, to explain what happened.

“yep! i ran off stage to throw up, halfway thru Whats My Name…made it back juuuust in time for RudeBoy” she tweeted to a fan following the show.

Poor thing.  Check out the footage where she runs off stage here.  And if that didn’t make her feel bad, the people over at Jackie magazine made her feel even worse.  While the Dutch magazine was trying to praise her style and give readers tips on how to pull off her look in the cold of winter, they used a “colorful” title.   How they didn’t know it was offensive, I’ll never know. I am huge fan of Tracee Ellis Ross. I have two style icons, Nia Long and Tracee Ellis Ross. When it comes to Tracee’s fashion sense, I believe she is one of the the most original in what works well for her personality and body type. Some artist like to be outrageous for the sake of being different *whispers Nicki Minaj* that their style seems inauthentic, and very forced. Tracee Ellis Ross’ on the other hand, her style comes across effortlessly and natural, therefore she appears comfortable in her own skin.

AND…Don’t let me get started on the hair. I love her hair! I am so thankful that Tracee stars on Reed Between the Lines, in family of women with natural hair. VV: Let’s talk about your style. Before when we spoke, you mentioned that some of the pieces from Girlfriends would find their way into Carla’s wardrobe. What’s the inspiration? Do you work with designers or find things out and about?

Ross: It’s stuff that’s been found out and about. The way I went about Joan and Carla is I always ask myself who this woman is. Every once in a while people say Carla is so much like Joan, and I’m like, ‘People, Tracee plays both people.’ So what you’re seeing that’s the same between Carla and Joan is not Carla being like Joan, but it’s Tracee. Tracee was Joan and Tracee is Carla. It’s so funny people don’t understand that, it makes me laugh.

VV: Do you think The Cosby Show comparisons set the audience expectations too high?
Ross: I don’t know. For some people, it’s a great context to know what the show might be, and for some people, it makes it hard because you’re comparing it to something that you have such a clear idea of. BET seems to be promoting it as the new Cosby, which I don’t think it helpful, and I don’t think makes sense.

The way Malcolm [Jamal Warner] and I have been describing it is that we are in no way, shape or form trying to be a new Cosby Show. What we are doing is taking the recipe of what Cosby did, which was a family show that was timeless and good, and use those elements.

I can’t get invested in whether it hurts the show or not. The beauty of being on BET in this day and age is that on other network they do two episodes and they pull a show from television. Sometimes that’s the greatest thing, and sometimes it just never had a chance to grow. With BET, we did 25 episodes and we’re getting a chance. It’s really wonderful working with a network that wants your show and is behind your show. The audience asked for this kind of show, BET listened and they went out and have gotten behind our show. On other networks, I don’t know if that always happens.
