Lost & Found: DJ Quik, Mark Curry, Karen White, & Mini-Me

We can kill three birds with one stone, cause we found DJ Quik, Mark Curry, and Karen White, all at the same event. I know you have been wondering what in the world is DJ Quik up to these days, or maybe not, but here he is at LaLah Hathaway’s album release party for Where It All Begins, and he’s still rocking the perm. But he looks the same, though.

Everyone remembers Karen Malina White, not by her real name, but as Charmaine Brown from The Cosby Show and A Different World. She also played Kaneesha, the pregnant girl in Lean On Me. Where has she been?

Comedian Mark Curry also attended the event, along with Vanessa Williams from Soul Food the TV Series, and not the actual movie. The whole event was like a blast from the past 90′s reunion. Oh yeah! How can I forget, Verne Troyer a.k.a Mini-Me was also in the house, too. Who knew Verne is Lalah Hathaway fan…

Kelly Rowland’s album, Here I Am, will take the #3 spot in a week of unimpressive sales. Kelly Rowland comes in third behind, Eric Church (country singer) and Adele (second week on chart). Sales projection for Here I Am is set around 75,000. Right now with 53% of the sales reported on Hits Daily Double, Here I Am has officially moved 47,889 units so far. Of course the number will be updated later today to reflect all sales. Let’s hope Ms Kelly made or exceeded her sales projection.

I’m so disappointed in the numbers, my heart hurts just a little bit. I also don’t feel like the promotion team capitalized on the success of Motivation. It’s not over, her sales can continue to build over time, but it does sting just a little. On the bright side, Chris Brown and Kelly Rowland may be coming to a city near you on tour…

Me and Kelly Rowland along with other incredible artists are going on tour!!!! I’ll let u know who else is on later! Lol

Kelly Rowland told Hot 97′s Angie Martinez the same:

I’m also going on tour with Chris Brown in September. I’m so excited about that. Getting ready for that show — literally getting ready. I’m sitting up here emailing and all that kind of stuff, finding people now.

BTW, Beyonce‘s album, 4, just went platinum…

50 Cent has been going and back with his record label, Interscope Records, for a while now about his upcoming album, Black Magic. On Wednesday, he went off against Interscope on Twitter announcing that he will not be putting out another album due to conflicts with the record company and their slow movement on his project:

Man I’m not releasing a album I can’t believe interscope is this f*cked up right now. I apologize to all my fans. I will work with other artist on there projects but I will not put out another album. They dropped the ball with me one time to many.

After his Twitter tantrum, 50 and Interscope supposedly resolved their issues. 50 told MTV, “By the time we got to go sit down with Jimmy Iovine, we talked a little bit and then I ended up having to go see Dr. Dre because we had the little issue. We sat down, we cleared that up, me and Dre, and then we said, ‘Let’s just get back to the music and do what we do.’”

But the issues rose to the surface again Wednesday, possibly spurred on by the release of Fiddy’s track, “I’m On It,” which was leaked by the record company. He then threatened to leak Dr. Dre’s new single, “Psycho”.

He ended up not leaking the song…yet, but hey, with 50, you never know. That would be a stab in the back to someone who helped him launch his career. Dre has been working extremely hard on his new project and I’m sure its worth the wait.

He tweeted:

I wouldn’t leak dre’s record he has done nothing but help me in my career. jimmy has always been supportive of me. I hate when I can’t present my music the way. I feel it should be but f*ck it check out I’m ON IT

Sorry 50, but I’m glad they leaked this song because I was starting to lose a little faith. The song is HOT.

Beyonce showed up to support Kelly Rowland’s new album, that’s all I needed to see! I’m so happy to see Kelly and Beyonce maintaining their friendship over all these years, and putting the competitiveness aside to support one another. Two years ago it was a different scenario. Moving on, Michelle Williams was also in the house, which made for a true Destiny’s Child reunion.

Musiq Soulchild has relocated to Atlanta. This past weekend, Musiq Soulchild hosted a special luncheon at Maggiano’s sponsored by Atlantic, to promote his new album, Musiq In The Magiq. Merita McCalister was able to get up close and personal with Musiq in a special interview for MrsGrapevine.com readers, plus a few pics. Enjoy!

On the title of his new album:

It’s not like I sit around and literally wait on the words; I just bounce around a lot of ideas in my head and whichever sticks out the most, I roll with that. The word magic just kept popping up for some reason, I don’t really know why but, it was the word that kept popping in my head and I said ‘okay, there is no way of really getting around that;’ I can choose to ignore it but I like things to come as they do so they can be authentic.

Musiq Soulchild, Neo-Soul & R&B artist, returns with his sixth album “MusiqintheMagiq,” in stores May 3, offering lyrical advice and articulating a man’s perspective when it comes to being in love and dealing with relationships.

Musiq Soulchild says he has always given credit to everyone but himself in his music, never really owning his personal contribution. Behind the new album title with everything that goes along with his success, he is taking the time to acknowledge that he is not the only factor but a very key ingredient in the magic in his music, hence the title “MusiqintheMagiq.”

Now a resident of Atlanta, Georgia, Musiq Soulchild has laid roots in a city he says is full of energy and is a hub for creative people. When asked about his dating experiences in Atlanta he acknowledged that his significant other was not from Atlanta but from the west coast but that he loves a woman that is secure within herself.

“I love the strength that women have, men have a different kind of strength that is more a physical strength where as women have more of a emotional strength and it’s nothing like it,” Musiq Soulchild said. “I could love you to death but I can only go so far because there are some controls that I don’t have access to but when you take that active roll into finding that self security, finding that self worth and really owning it and applying it and making it become who you are so that it represents you I love that, “proof is in the presentation.”

So Chris Brown Loses Temper, Smashes Window, Stares Down ABC Producer?

UPDATE: According to TMZ: ABC staffers called the cops after Chris Brown‘s tirade this AM to document the broken window in the building, and this could spell big trouble for the famous singer who is currently on probation. During the conversation between the staffer and a glass repairman, the staffer says “I have a police officer coming just to take a look at it before we do any work.” Despite the conversation, NYPD sources tell us … none of their officers were dispatched to the scene.

UPDATE: Chris Brown has been arrested for smashing the window at ABC Studio, according to Wendy Williams. Security was called, no arrest were made, but charges may be filed against the singer for smashing the window with a chair. Although no one actually saw him smash the window, so we have to say allegedly smashing the window.

Chris Brown lost his temper today at ABC Studio when GMA’s Robin Roberts kept asking him questions about the Rihanna assault that took place two years ago, although he was on the show to promote his album F.A.M.E. in stores today. I’m so opinionated right now, that I can’t be objective. A part of me is hurt because after the incident MrsGrapevine.com and other blogs supported him and asked that the Mainstream Media (MSM) be fair, and the other part of me is like why can’t people let this go; it’s been two years. Both Rihanna and Chris Brown are upset over the line of questions, and why didn’t Robin Roberts stop when Chris Brown redirected the questions three times. It’s like the same ordeal that happened to Kanye West regarding Taylor Swift on NBC.

I am disappointed in Chris Brown because he let the MSM get to him on his day. I understand they wanted him to fail and they have been overly critical of the situation compared to other artist who have committed similar crimes, but today he let them win. So what was suppose to be a day of promoting the album, has turned into a day of worrying abut the kid and his ability to control his emotions. Now we all have to listen to the, I Told You So, by the MSM. Get it together baby! Take a break before you breakdown!

Here are the details of what happened:

Roberts asked Brown about the situation two more times; Brown seemed increasingly agitated as their conversation progressed. After the interview, Brown performed “Yeah 3x,” the lead single off his new album, “F.A.M.E.” The moment the song ended, he let loose.

Brown stormed off stage and went back to his dressing room. Then he came back down the hall, still backstage, and stopped upon seeing the person who produced the segment. Brown didn’t have his shirt on.

At that point, the producer backed away and went back to “GMA’s” dressing rooms. The show’s hair and makeup staff said they had called security because they heard loud noises coming from Brown’s dressing room.

It was then discovered that a window had been smashed in Brown’s dressing room. The thick glass was destroyed.

By the time the smashed window was discovered, Brown and his team had left the building. Paparazzi photos show the singer shirtless outside “GMA’s” Times Square studio.

Ciara already knew this album wasn’t going to do so well because she defended her low numbers before the charts were even tallied:

Selling records are becoming smaller fraction of branding and building a long-lasting career. You can sell a lot of records, but can you tour. You can sell records, but where does it go beyond that? That’s a part of building a brand for yourself. {Source}

However, I don’t think the record label anticipated the numbers would be this low. Debuting at #43 and selling approximately 37,900 albums, Basic Instinct is technically a flop. I like Ciara, she’s not the strongest vocalist, but she puts a lot into her performances, and that I can appreciate. I hope she become the comeback kid of 2011.

Guess whose album didn’t even make the top 50. Hint: Tardy for the Party was more successful. According to That Grape Juice, Kandi Burruss numbers did not make the cut. Not a good year for R&B women.

Here a some pictures from inside A Very Keri Christmas listening party for our MrsGrapevine.com readers. Keri Hilson looked hot as usual, and ATL really came out to support their own.

Last night, Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 hosted A Very Keri Christmas listening party for 100 contest winners at Harlem Nights Ultra Lounge, where Keri previewed tracks from her upcoming album No Boys Allowed (in stores Dec. 21). Keri showed the crowd how to “Pretty Girl Rock” and explained the inspiration behind each song. Several fans walked away with autographed merchandise and one lucky winner won a Panasonic sound system.

Yesterday, El Debarge was spotted in NYC in full promo mode for his latest album, Second Chance. El hit up J&R Music for an in-store autograph signing, and later that evening performed at the Highline Ballroom.

Kanye West album debuts at #1 taking the top spot over Nicki Minaj who came in at #2 with impressive first week sales. Kanye West actually did slighter better than projected with limited marketing, and no major hits off the album, which goes to show people are thirsty for originality and talent. Hit Daily Double is reporting that My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy sold 518,775 albums in one week, pushing Taylor Swift down to the #3 spot.

Nicki Minaj team projected she would move 400,000 units in first week sales, and she almost hit the target. Final sales reports for Pink Friday shows that Nicki Minaj debut album sold 371,049 copies. Not bad!

Pretty girl, Miss Keri Baby, takes you behind-the-scenes of her latest photo shoot to discuss her new album, “No Boys Allowed,” which hits stores December 21st.

Keri Hilson on the concept of her new album:

Well, I knew I wanted my new album title to represent women and most of my songs are really about how hard it is to weave through the boys and find a man. So, no boys allowed, MEN ONLY.

For this album, you can’t help but to notice her new look. Keri on her new artwork and style direction:

The inspiration for my look is just very Keri. I love mixing masculine with feminine. I love military jackets, I love anything with epaulettes, I love gaudy jewelry and boots. Gomillion and Leupold really captured the essence of my vision. It takes real talent to be able to visually articulate something that’s just been a vision in my head. We’re not done yet, but so far I’m already happy.

Keri has also been receiving a lot of flack for her song, “Pretty Girl Rock” which some have criticized for being too cocky:

‘Pretty Girls’ is just every girl’s anthem. The message is just really to love yourself, love yourself-unapologetically. Love yourself.”

After I saw Quincy Jones with Ludacris on 106th and Park earlier this week, I grew a newfound love for his work which has spanned more than six decades. I am really excited about his latest project, “Quincy Jones’s Q: Soul Bossa Nostra”. I also love to see today’s musicians paying homage to those who have come before them.

In case you haven’t seen it, here is the new video from Ludacris, Naturally 7 and Rudy Currencewho pay homage to the legendary Quincy Jones. Luda originally sampled this track with his song “Number One Spot” and now, he’s back putting his twist on “Soul Bossa Nostra”.

In preparation for her upcoming album, Pink Friday, Nicki Minaj has been in promotion mode. From Miami to Dallas, she has been throwing pink parties across the nation. I’m not going to lie, there are songs on that album that are hot. I am no longer not a fan because I’m the Best, proves that if Nicki wants to go hard, she can shut down the game in less than eight bars. I would love to see more of that Nicki, but I guess she has plan, so I will have to wait and see how it all fits together in the end.

Nicki Minaj new song Roman’s Revenge obviously goes in on Lil Kim, and when asked who was the song directed toward, Nicki Minaj (IMO) copped out and gave an unoriginal response:

No, I’m talking about everyone who has been in interviews talking and I think it’s good for people to hear me respond to ….People have said so much about me, So I don’t ever single anyone out because no one is worth being singled out. No one is worth having their name mentioned out of my mouth and they never will get that.

I’ve been quiet for such a long time and I’ve been the nice guy. I’ve been the person that gave everyone their props. I’ve complimented everybody from day one. I think that as a rapper, you can’t be a rapper and not speak on things being said about you. I use my music to say what I have to say.

Am I living in an alternate universe or does this woman keep taking shots at Lil Kim, but when called to the mic, backs down. She pretty much started her career copying not emulating Lil Kim. Secondly, her response sounds so familiar, a lot like MC Lyte 1989 Shut the Eff Up:

So I’ma kick this rhyme right now and right here, I’d tell your name, but that would give you fame
And I ain’t out to give you what you don’t have, So I sit back and relax, cause it makes me laugh
I could diss, call you names and make fun of you, But me the Lyte, I’m into speakin the truth

It worked for Lyte, but of course we all knew who she was talking about, and when she talked, she went in with specifics. Anyway, Lil Kim is not scared to call people out by name, and considering Lil Kim has proven herself over and over again, including some jail time, I am going to ride with old school on this one, at least until I hear Nicki Minaj’s first album or maybe even her sophomore album. Anyway check out Lil Kim’s response:

I will erase this bish’s social security number, first of all I don’t even need a record right now and I’d kill that bush with my old sh*t. My records ain’t just enter the charts, they made history. WTF is this bull, this ish come and go.

In just a few short weeks we will see when Nicki Minaj drops her album Pink Friday, on Tuesday November 23.
