Tracy Morgan Sues Walmart Over Horrific Crash
Just over a month after being involved in a horrific car accident that left one person dead and several others injured, Tracy Morgan is suing Walmart for negligence. The comedian filed papers with the courts on Thursday that cited Kevin Roper as being an inattentive driver whose actions caused serious bodily injury and financial loss.
“Walmart was careless and negligent in the ownership and operation of its motor vehicle, which caused Mr. Morgan to suffer severe personal injuries,” read the documents. “As a direct and proximate result of said collision, Mr. Morgan was caused to sustain severe painful bodily injuries, including but not limited to multiple fractures which required multiple surgeries, extensive medical treatment, and will require significant physical rehabilitation.”
The lawsuit further stated,
“As a direct and proximate result of the physical injuries sustained by Mr. Morgan in the collision, he has been incapacitated from pursuing his usual employment and other activities, may be left with disabilities that will in the future similarly incapacitate him and cause him pain and suffering, and may require medical treatment.”
Walmart has agreed to cooperate with the ongoing investigation and tells media in a statement that it aims to do what is best for everyone involved. “We wish Mr. Morgan, Mr. Fuqua Jr., and Mr. Millea full recoveries,” reads the statement. “We know it will take some time to resolve all of the remaining issues as a result of the accident, but we’re committed to doing the right thing for all involved.”
Tracy Morgan was traveling on the New Jersey turnpike in the early hours of the morning on June 7, 2014, when the vehicle he was riding in was struck by a Walmart tractor trailer driven by Kevin Roper. One of Morgan’s close friends, who was also riding in the Mercedes Benz limo bus, died as a result of the accident.
