Andrea Kelly Supports Transgender Daughter (Jaya) To Son (Jay); R Kelly Not So Much

Across the internet, I have seen posts talking about Andrea & R Kelly’s daughter, Jaya (13), stepping out as a transgendered boy named, Jay. My first thoughts were that this is a very private moment, and that kids are just really off limits. Thus the reason I don’t even talk about Blue Ivy’s hair and this doggone petition. Beyonce taking the ‘I woke up like this’…a little too farThou canth with y’all.

Jay who is going to ninth grade is speaking out, and it’s a topic that he doesn’t mind discussing publicly. During a Q&A session on Ask.fm, Jay talks openly about being a FTM transgender. It is a little hard for me to wrap my mind around because he’s still so young, but while reading the thread, I see that there are a lot of kids going through the same thing. More importantly though, I can’t help, but support Andrea’s response to the situation. She tweets:

That’s my baby til the day I die. NOTHING AND NO THING will ever change MY LOVE…A MOTHER’S LOVE! Thank you. MY LOVE, A MOTHER’S LOVE, is UNCONDITIONAL… LIKE GOD’S LOVE FOR ALL OF US!

A mother’s love should be unconditional. The sad news here is that every questions regarding Jay’s dad ends with, “I don’t know.” Jay doesn’t know what his dad thinks about having a transgendered son, if his dad is married or not, or how his famous dad feels. It’s clear from reading the questions that Jay doesn’t have a relationship with R, and that saddens me. But when asked about his mom:

My mom was like, “Baby, you know I love you if you were bi, gay, lesbian, you name it and I would still love you so much.”She was very proud of me, I was like, “Thank you mom for accepting the fact that I’m a transgender.”
