Nicki Minaj Is Not Here For Your Album Cover Criticisms

So yesterday Nicki Minaj released the video for her single Lookin Ass N*gga.  And on the cover of the single, was an iconic picture of Malcolm X, holding a rifle and peering out into the street from behind closed curtains.  Soon as the internet got a hold of that, there was a whirlwind of backlash and slander.  I even saw a petitioned made to have Nicki remove the image of Malcolm X, claiming that using the picture dishonors the legacy of one of the greatest Civil Rights leaders.  Well, it seems that Nicki had a change of heart–she notified everyone via Instagram that she decided to remove the picture.  But basically, not because of y’all. So she pretty much is saying “Y’ALL LATE.”

What seems to be the issue now? Do you have a problem with me referring to the people Malcolm X was ready to pull his gun out on as Lookin Ass Niggaz? Well, I apologize. That was never the official artwork nor is this an official single. This is a conversation. Not a single. I am in the video shooting at Lookin Ass Niggaz and there happened to be an iconic photo of Malcolm X ready to do the same thing for what he believed in!!!! It is in no way to undermine his efforts and legacy. I apologize to the Malcolm X estate if the meaning of the photo was misconstrued. The word “nigga” causes so much debate in our community while the “nigga” behavior gets praised and worship. Let’s not. Apologies again to his family. I have nothing but respect an adoration for u. The photo was removed hours ago. Thank you

Kudos for her to removing the picture but you gotta fall back, Nicki.  Shouldn’t have even used the picture in the first place.  Can’t blame the public for reacting.  SMH

Why can’t we stop perpetuating the use of this word. It’s apart of the problem.
