It doesn’t happen a whole lot but some days there are just times when I read an article and I just considering getting off the internet for the day, because I just can’t deal. Well, this one made me think about hitting that off switch again. The New York Post shared the story of one Stephanie Smith, a young woman who’s on a quest to fulfill her boyfriend Eric‘s request for 300 sandwiches. The end result? An engagement ring.
One lazy summer afternoon just over a year ago, I finally gave in. I assembled turkey and Swiss on toasted wheat bread. I spread Dijon mustard generously on both bread slices, and I made sure the lettuce was perfectly in line with the neatly stacked turkey slices.
Eric devoured the sandwich as if it were a five-star meal, diving in with large, eager bites. “Babes, this is delicious!” he exclaimed.
As he finished that last bite, he made an unexpected declaration of how much he loved me and that sandwich: “Honey, you’re 300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring!
So Stephanie then started the site, 300Sandwiches.com, and start creating layered culinary pieces. To-date, she’s made 176 sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. You know, I can’t knock her hustle because she HAS managed to turn this into a profit, getting attention from famous chefs like Emeril Lagasse for her work, but the beginning of the article rubbed me the wrong way. Stephanie wrote about how her boyfriend would tell her in the mornings “You’ve been up for 15 minutes and you haven’t made me a sandwich?” *Needle scratch* I can only hope that as she’s creating all these sandwiches, she’s also keeping her eyes open to other important aspects of the relationship. It would a shame to get to sandwich 300 and get nothing but a dap. What do you guys think? Would you fulfill his request for an engagement ring?
