Meet Nina Davuluri: First Miss America Of Indian Descent
Every time someone of color breaks barriers, there are always people there to make ignorant racist comments to try and ruin the moment, but they can’t ruin this moment. Last night, I was bored and decided to tune into the Miss America Pageant. It was pretty boring, until I laid eyes on the stunning Miss New York, Nina Davuluri, and I watched as she performed a Classical Bollywood Fusion dance (see video below). When I say she KILLED it, that would be an understatement. I couldn’t take my eyes off of Miss Nina:
I remember performing my talent and halfway through I just started crying! It was so meaningful and powerful.
Don’t believe me, just watch it:
If the talent didn’t get you, her undeniable beauty will.
And now here’s the ugly. Of course people don’t know the difference between ethnicity when it comes to people of color, and so not only are they racist, ignorant, and bold, but they are also terribly stupid. Really?!? Check out Miss America’s classy response to the ignorance:
I have to rise above that. I always viewed myself as first and foremost American.
