Another day, another Beyonce complaint. I try to balance out the news for Mrs. Cater, but people seem to be extra mad this year. No matter how great Beyonce is, someone has an issue with the pop star.
According to RnB Music Blog, Amy Winehouse’s dad, Mitch, claims that Beyonce did not get permission from him or anyone in the family to cover Back to Black. Mitch is not happy about it! To make matters worse, he also claims Beyonce didn’t add any value to the song. Ouch!
I don’t think she brings anything to it.I wasn’t asked for my permission if they could record it.They have got to pay for the privilege, which is what they are doing [now]. I can’t tell you how much it is but it’s a lot of money.
IDK, I’m an Amy Winehouse fan. I love the original Back to Black. I kind of agree with Mitch regarding “adding value to the song.” Beyonce and Andre 3000 remade Back to Black for the movie The Great Gatsby; I am excited about the movie. –BUT– I think the new version of Back to Black takes away from the original by sucking out all of the soul and pain and making it more like a cabaret tune. Good for the movie, but not good enough to mess with a song that was an instant classic. Anyway check out the new version below:
I love me some Andre 3000, but I have to roll with Amy Winehouse on this one. Maybe it’s just too soon to remake this song, not sure why they didn’t use the original in the first place. It fits great with the era, and the Gatsby theme.
BTW, some crazy fans in Serbia slapped and yanked Beyonce by the weave.
