Beyonce sings the National Anthem live during a press conference for the Superbowl , and it’s suppose to prove something. What exactly? I am not sure. If lip-synching is not a big deal, then I am not sure why she’s singing the Star Spangled Banner again…LIVE, but in a closed and controlled environment sans band after having days upon days to rehearse. Of course she nails it.DUH!I don’t think anyone ever questioned “if” Beyonce could sing, the question remains why didn’t she sing under pressure in the moment, as many artists have (time and time again with the same conditions). We finally get a nicely crafted answer a week and a half later:
I am a perfectionist. And one thing about me, I practice until my feet bleed. And I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. It was a live tv show and a very, very important, emotional show for me. One of my proudest moments. Due to the weather, due to the delay and lack of proper soundcheck, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk. It was about the President and the Inauguration. And I wanted to make him and my country proud. So, I decided to sing along to a pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry. And I’m very proud of my performance.
Sorry Beehives, I’m not buying into the publicity. Take a risk on what… singing??? I like many others weren’t looking for a controlled, orchestrated, polished, “perfect” performance. We were looking for a real emotion, an in the moment experience that reflected the mood of the nation– the first black President being re-elected. A moment lead by the spirit of the crowd, not a moment that looks good on TV. It wouldn’t have bothered me if Beyonce cried, if her voice cracked, or if she had snot frozen under her nose. I would have defended her to the high heavens. It would have been nice to have something that wasn’t fabricated or “perfect”, or as Aretha Franklinexplained, the real deal. Lip-synching or not, it certainly shouldn’t have warranted all of this drama and press.
Now that the PUBLICITY is over, it’s certainly time to move on, AGAIN. I can’t wait to see Beyonce perform live during half-time at the Superbowl. I’m so glad that Beyonce had a lot of time to prepare for half time, cause my expectations are high. I’m so ready for this Beyonce concert…LOL…I mean Superbowl.
