Some of your favorite stars hit up the red carpet at 2012 Bet Awards. Let me just state for the record, we need to appreciate all of the stars, who walked the full length of the red carpet in LA during the summer: Wendy Raquel Robinson, Yolanda Adams, Faith Evans, Tamia, Chante Moore, Elle Varner, Swizz Beatz, Debra Lee, Al Sharpton, LeToya Luckett, Joyful Drake, Nadine Ellis, Kenny Latimore, Kenya Moore, Miguel, and Stephen Hill. These celebs could have hit their marks on the red carpet took a picture and kept it moving, but they were very press friendly and interactive. Nicki Minaj, Brandy, Taraji P Henson, Mindless Behavior, Hosea Chanchez, LaLa Anthony, Jaime Foxx, Kerry Washington, Tyrese, Tank, Genuine, and Boris Kodjoe were also spotted in the press room mingling with the media and crew.
So now I understand why the BET Awards is a BIG DEAL. The theme this year, BIG, was spot on. MrsGrapevine.com has been credentialed to cover the BET Awards or other BET events as media in the past, and often times I send a representative to do the work, and just watch from the comforts of my home, tweeting my most honest unfiltered opinions. Well, this year I decided that as the owner of this site, that if I get credentials, I’m going to work this event, and work it I did. I have to say it was one of the most humbling experiences of my life, and truly gave me a deeper respect for BET and all of the work that goes into pulling off an event this BIG. An event that honors the accomplishments of so many people of color. Working the BET Awards gave me a new found respect for celebrities, media, and the many faces that go unrecognized who help put this event together for our critical pleasure. I learned that it’s easy to sit at home and tweet jokes, or pick apart the things that go wrong. I discovered that it’s easier being critical when you don’t know all of the work involved under the hot summer sun. Most importantly, I learned that as bloggers we are sometimes so quick to judge that we forget to praise the things that are so right; the people that work so hard; and the time devoted to entertain and honor US so often.
I just have to especially thank Keesha Wallace, and she knows why. I will just say that I am grateful. She was very professional and did a GREAT job regulating and executing media logistics, which is probably the hardest job. Thanks! On that note, I just want to share some highlights from behind the scenes.
It probably isn’t nice that the first thing I wanted to do was laugh about this…but…I did. LOL Kelis is waist deep in tax troubles with the IRS, according to E! Online. Kelis was slammed with TWO tax liens by the state of New York, totaling $330,426.
I think what makes me laugh about it is her ex-husband Nas was dealing with tax troubles when Kelis received her massive child and spousal support rulings in their divorce. It’s just feeling a tad bit like karma, but maybe that’s me. And these two newest tax liens aren’t the only ones Kelis is dealing with…
Superstar Diana Ross has a new grandbaby on the way! Chudney Ross, Diana‘s youngest daughter, announced her pregnancy via Twitter with a posted picture. Chudney tweeted “Mahalo Kauai for a fabulously relaxing, sun and fun filled few days to celebrate my baby with my baby #babymoon” along with the picture below.
Chudney is due to give birth in September. She looks great for being 6 months pregnant and did a great job of keeping it underwraps. I don’t even think the father of her child has even been shared. The news of her pregnancy follows the release of her first children’s book, Lone Bean…
Rocsi Diaz and Eddie Murphy officially stepped out on the red carpet together as a couple at the Pre-BET Awards Celebration Dinner hosted by Debra Lee. When Rocsi hit the red carpet at the Pre-BET Cerebration Dinner, it was like a scene out of the movies. The red carpet was so bright from all of the camera flashes. Why? Because right by Rocsi’s side, hand and hand was Eddie Murphy. It was truly a magical red carpet moment; almost Cinderella like, Rocsi and her Prince Charming at the ball. Cell phones were vibrating and beeping from all of the buzz generated via social media and texts.
The event which was a star-studded affair included celebrity guests like Al Sharpton, LaLa Anthony, Tamia, LeToya Luckett, Chante Moore, Kenny Latimore, Ciara, Tichina Arnold, MC Lyte, Tamia, and Wendy Raquel Robinson, just to name a few. Everyone looked absolutely gorgeous, and it was amazing just to see all of the work that goes on behind the scenes at these events.
