Last night’s episode of NBC’s “The Voice” once again staged some amazing battles from soulful powerhouses and one my favorite performances of the night came from Jermaine Paul singing Billy Ocean’s “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car”. For the first time so far this season, I’ve made my early prediction that he is going to win it all.
It’s hard to pick a winner for this show because you don’t see all of the performances with every show so you kind of forget who you liked early on, but he stands out to me this season. Jermaine used to sing back up for Alicia Keys but is determined to step out to the limelight. His daughter encouraged him to audition for The Voice. His adviser Kelly Clarkson after hearing him sing promised that if he didn’t win it all on The Voice, he should come on tour with her to which he quickly replied, “Only if I can open.” He is determined to never sing back-up for anyone else again.
I am not a fashionista, but when you see Jennifer Williams from Basketball Wives looking this fierce in a magazine…you become label-curious. Check out Jennifer Williams doing her own thing in Today’s Black Woman – Style Report, while sporting these Jimmy Choo ‘Dusky’ Cut-Out Orange Scuba-Fabric Boots. Do you like it? For some reason I do. I do!
Singer Katy Perry is defintely one of those artists who dabbles a bit in being “extra” without being overt like *fill in your own artist(s)* but this is kind of…interesting…and brave. During a performance for the BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge series, Katy covered the Kanye/Jay-Z hit, N****s In Paris.
Like I said, it’s a brave and interesting choice of a song for her to cover. Number one, it’s a completely different genre than her native Pop music but she adjusts it fairly well to match her voice and flow. Number two (and probably where the controversy would lie) she covers a song that uses a racially sensitive word. While she doesn’t say it, substituting “ninja” instead, some could be offended just knowing what the actual word is. Then again, Katy can’t be blamed for the word, since it’s not her song. Check out the video of her performance after the jump and share your thoughts!
I am trying hard to understand our justice system in America. How can a grown man weighing 250 lbs with a nine-millimeter gun claim self-defense after following a black teenager around, firing a shot at him, and killing him in public while he pleaded aloud for his life? I am trying to understand, why this man has not been arrested for some form of murder or manslaughter? There is no reason why George Zimmerman shouldn’t be behind bars awaiting bail for killing 17-year old Trayvon Martin. Self-defense does not negate the fact that a crime has been committed and in this case, it’s up to the judicial system to find Zimmerman guilty or innocent, and not the police department, obviously their judgment is racially compromised.
I have two sons, and I take this case to the heart. What would you do if it were your child? The facts of the matter is that George Zimmerman ignored the advice of the dispatcher, followed the kid without any probable cause, fired a shot at the seventeen year old while he was unarmed and begging for his life. Several residents called 911 and reported that Trayvon Martin was screaming for his life and begging for help before Zimmerman shot him point blank. In one of the tapes (below) you can clearly hear Trayvon (now Zimmerman claims it’s him) in the background screaming and begging for help for about 20 seconds, then you hear a gunshot and nothing but silence. *cries*
When cops finally arrived, all Trayvon had on him was a pack of Skittles for his younger brother and a can of Arizona Tea. He was just making a run to the convenient store for a late night snack. So what does a suspicious looking 17-year old teenage-thug look like anyway…
Marlo Hampton was not lying when she said she love her some fashion on Real Housewives of Atlanta. Look who is rocking the same Oscar de la Renta dress worn by Nicki Minaj at the American Music Awards. Marlo Hampton beaming from ear to ear attends the 6th Annual Fine Art + Fashion Show presented by Neiman Marcus and National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta. We will not even discuss how Marlo Hampton could afford such a dress, we will just post the pics and leave it at that.
More pics of the well-dressed woman with no-job when you continue…
