Check out part one of this grown and sexy interview with Mrs. Jackie Christie.
NOTE: Stay tuned for part two on Friday!!! Jackie and I talk about the cast members of both Basketball Wives (LA and Miami), plus that infamous “trash” comment made by Shaunie O’Neal.
We’re 16 years into our marriage, and it couldn’t be better. It’s like we’re newly weds. I respect him, he respects me. He’s not forced to be here, I’m not forced to be here. It’s not weird, it’s not me forcing him to do something, it’s not me trying to keep him away from females.
MGV: Episode one of Basketball Wives LA has aired. Have you gotten a lot of feedback?
Oh my Goodness! Yes I got some great feedback, I got tons of it. I got a lot of good stuff, but then I’ve also got a couple of people who have tweeted me and said something along the lines of like, “Oh my God, this is buffoonery.” But it’s funny because at the end of their tweet they’ll say, “But, I like the show and I’ll keep watching.” So, I’ve seen both sides.
MGV: Do you think it’s weird that people say the show is negative, but yet they can’t stop watching.
Yes, I understand it, and that’s just television for you, and with reality shows, especially. When you’re looking at someone else life (and I’m definitely an open book, and I encourage all the girls to be who they really are normally on a day to day basis), I think a lot of the world connects with that. They don’t really like it, but they’re some connection there and that’s why, they continue to watch.
MGV: We learned a lot about you so far by watching the previews of Basketball Wives LA. What stands out the most to a lot of viewers is that you and your husband Doug Christie re-marry every year?
My husband asked me to marry him on Friday in 1996, and I was very very happy. We had been through a really rocky first three years of courting. So when he asked me to marry him, I was over the moon. And when he said when
do you want to get married, I said, “Today!”So we called City Hall and thought we could get married right then, but we couldn’t we had to wait three days. So, we called everyone in our families and told them, and we got married that Tuesday, because Monday we had to get the license.
After that, we decided, since it was a short notice and some of the people couldn’t make it out so quickly, let’s get married again next year on our anniversary, so that more people could come.
Once we did that, it was such a strong connection. We always felt like we were on our honeymoon that whole year, so we decided, “Let’s get married every year.”
That’s what our tradition is, and we’re going to get married for the rest of our lives every year.
MGV: So tell us a little bit about these weddings?
We’ve gotten married in different places, in different countries, on boats. When were building a house together, we got married in hard hats on the soil where we were building our home. Just all different kinds of places.
We trade off every year. So one year it’s his turn to plan it, and the next year it’s my turn.
MGV: So Doug Christie is hands on? He doesn’t just say you plan everything and I’ll show up, he actually participates and plans the weddings, too?
Oh, yes! He definitely does. He gets excited! Right around February, we start planning our wedding, and what’s funny is my husband will bring it up before I
will. He’d be like, “OK honey, what are we doing this year?”When it’s his turn, he’ll say, “I Have a surprise for you, I can’t wait for our wedding.” I know there are some misconceptions out there. Like is she marrying him because she’s trying to do this or that, but those reasons couldn’t be further from the truth.
MGV: Which wedding was your favorite?
This last one. It’s special because my mother has been diagnosed with liver cancer, and she wasn’t suppose to be here right now. So for her to be able to come and enjoy our wedding with us. It meant the world to me.
We have to have her on by satellite now because she’s on oxygen. But that last one was one to remember.
MGV: We hear the rumors of you traveling on the team plane, Doug Christie has worn a leash to mock the media, What do you say to the people out there who say, “It doesn’t take all of that to stay married.”
With the leash, that was a promo thing BET did for our reality show to get people’s attention. When the show came out we were mocking some of the stories that were out there, laughing at ourselves, just having fun with it.
I feel like if the person loves you and you love them, there’s no antics involved, there’s no pressure involved, there’s no forcing involved. You just love each other, and it’s a natural thing.
We’re 16 years in our marriage, and it couldn’t be better. It’s like we’re newly weds.
I respect him, he respects me. He’s not forced to be here, I’m not forced to be here. All of that, that’s out there, hopefully the show will definitely put a damper on most of those rumors.
We have a normal, healthy, beautiful relationship just like everybody else. It’s just been put out into the media differently because of who he is. People cannot except in this day in age they we are committed.
That’s what our relationship is based on. It’s not weird, it’s not me forcing him to do something, it’s not me trying to keep him away from females. All of that is just RUMORS!
Comeback Friday to read part two. It gets better!!!
