This is just sad and sick all at the same time. A Colorado man, Douglas Perlitz, was sentenced today in Connecticut on charges of raping and sodomizing 8 different male students over the course of 20 years in Haiti.  Perlitz started the school, Project Pierre Toussaint School, to help homeless children find shelter and receive an education in the poverty stricken area of Cap-Haitien. Perlitz showered his students with electronic gifts and provided them with food and shelter, and in exchange he took advantage of the students through illicit acts, and threatened to kick them out onto the streets if they reported it to authorities. After the scandal broke the school was forced to shut down and many of the kids were returned to the streets.

Perlitz admitted to abusing eight children, but prosecutors believe the number may be as high as 16 students due to private statements from the investigation. He was prosecuted in the US on charges of  traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. Continue Reading →
