I just don’t know what to make of Nicki Minaj’s interview with Complex magazine. Maybe I was reading it wrong, but she came across mean, like Kanye West style mean. In fact, she came across abrasive like she was annoyed by the questions from the interviewer. She pretty much told potential fans that if they didn’t get her style, they were stupid, and therefore she had to “dumb down” her music. She continued on to say that she didn’t have to explain anything in her music, if you don’t like it, don’t listen to it. I guess that means don’t buy it, either!
Complex: Everyone has this image of you as a cartoon character with outlandish wigs, but at our shoot today you were much more low-key.
Nicki Minaj: [Laughs.] Every woman is a character—but people need to see I’m a regular human. It’s like you wear a pink wig and you’re no longer human all of sudden. You’re a thing. Like today [the photographer] was like, “Where is that Nicki Minaj smile?” But this shoot doesn’t call for the Nicki Minaj smile. You guys wanted me subdued, so I’m gonna give you a different side. I’m not gonna pull a string and be like, “It’s Barbie, bitch!”
Complex: There’s been a lot of speculation about your sexuality in the press. Your verse on Usher’s “Lil’ Freak” adds to the buzz that you’re bisexual.
Nicki Minaj: When I rap, it’s just an extension of how I speak, and that’s how I talk. If you don’t like it, don’t listen.
Yesterday I attended one of my best friend’s bridal showers. I’m the Maid of Honor in her upcoming wedding. She looked so beautiful and was radiating so much love. And she deserves every bit of happiness that is coming to her. There were about 40 other women there…and guess what? They were all either engaged or married already. My friend Keisha and I were the ONLY single women there. We looked around at all these smiling faces and diamond rings. We endured the conversations about wedding planning, honeymoon talk etc. And the question that kept lingering in my head…Why isn’t that me?
I have a fantastic, but new, relationship right now (actually it’s by far the best relationship I’ve ever had). But being me, of course I’m dating someone on the other side of the world. I’m in my 30’s and I still haven’t fostered a relationship that would last through the end of time. Keisha and I talked about it on our way back to Brooklyn. She felt the same. We’re both attractive. Why aren’t we there, yet?
For me, I haven’t made decisions in my life that would lead up to a marriage. I’m incredibly independent, I’m a nomad, have different tastes and ultimately my relationship choices haven’t been conducive to sustaining a long-term partnership. What’s ironic is that for as far as I can remember, a loving partnership is all that I’ve ever consistently wanted out of life. So, why haven’t I attained that? Here are a couple of ideas that I came up with last night:
Is it me, or is Angela Simmons getting extra comfortable with the camera lately. From shaking her hips to Ciara, posting sexy twit pics, and now frolicking on the beach in teeny two piece. I remember on the first season of Run’s House, when Reverend Run made her wear some surfing shorts over her bikini to keep her covered up. My how they grow up!
My mama use to say you got to use before you lose it! Lots more pictures when you continue reading, plus you can check out all the pics of Angela in our gallery by clicking the “gallery” icon any of the pics (in the lower left corner)…
From the looks of these photos the much anticipated “craziness” (i.e. rumors of Rihanna stripping at Katy Perry’s bachelorette party) didn’t happen in Vegas this weekend. Rihanna helped her BFF Katy Perry celebrate her upcoming nuptials by partying with Perry in Las Vegas. The ladies hung out at the pool, got a table at XS Nightclub and even hung out with the Cirque Du Soleil cast backstage. Does Rihanna have any black celebrity girlfriends?
Now that she’s legal and comfortable in her skin, I think Raven Symone may be the new girl crush. I watched this episode Friday Night and I was glued to the TV. I just couldn’t believe how amazing this young lady looks. I’m so use to her wearing jeans and cropped jackets, or other not so fashionable outfits. But, black is really her color. She looks good in her little black dress.
But then I also shop…my mom still shops for me at TJ Maxx.
Raven Symone is also smart about her money, and that’s what I like to see. She got coins in the bank!
