I am very happy for Anika Noni-Rose, and the cast of Disney’s The Princess and the Frog. They brought in $25 million over the weekend, in the nnumber one position. Other cast members include, Oprah, Terrence Howard, Jenifer Lewis, John Goodman, and Bruno Campos.
As happy as I am about the success of the movie, I am sad that the movie is marketed as Disney’s first black princess. At this point why couldn’t Princess Tiana, just be a princess. Disney was founded in 1923, and after 86 years and billions of black dollars, they finally decided to broaden the Disney princess brand. So go see the movie because it’s culturally rich and entertaining, but not because the Princess is black.

While I understand what you’re saying, I think that the way the movie is being marketed is fine. It’s the truth; Tiana is the first black Disney princess. I think more focus should be on the fact that it took this long for there to be one.
