I hope you all have a very happy and safe Labor Day!
This morning I actually began thinking what does labor day really mean? I don’t remember learning about it in school and I thought it would be good to not only make a post on it but provide a little history lesson in the process. If I’m wondering about this I’m sure others are as well. What are we really celebrating?
What is Labor Day?:
The holiday originated in Canada out of labor disputes (“Nine-Hour Movement”) first in Hamilton, then in Toronto, Canada in the 1870s, which resulted in a Trade Union Act which legalized and protected union activity in 1872 in Canada. The parades held in support of the Nine-Hour Movement and the printers’ strike led to an annual celebration in Canada. In 1882, American labor leader Peter J. McGuire witnessed one of these labor festivals in Toronto. Inspired from Canadian events in Toronto, he returned to New York and organized the first American “labor day” on September 5 of the same year.
The first Labor Day in the United States was celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City. In the aftermath of the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the US militaryUS Marshals during the 1894 Pullman Strike, President Grover Cleveland put reconciliation with Labor as a top political priority. Fearing further conflict, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unanimously and signed into law a mere six days after the end of the strike. Cleveland was also concerned that aligning a US labor holiday with existing international May Day celebrations would stir up negative emotions linked to the Haymarket Affair. All 50 U.S. states have made Labor Day a state holiday.
Don’t tell anyone, but I’m secretly a nerd.
In a rear tweet and on the eve of Michael’s burial, Janet Jackson posted a loving message saying, “I love you , Mike, and I miss you.” Signed “Dunk.” Dunk is an affectionate nickname given to Janet by Michael.
Rumor has it that in the first interview with Miss Jackson since Michael’s passing, Harper’s Bazaar has sealed the deal to do an all exclusive spread for the magazine. She will reportedly talk about her brother’s death, her life since, and her career. However, the news has not been officially confirmed.
Michael Jackson was finally laid to rest on Friday afternoon, September 4, 2009.

Well, look who we have here. Jennifer Hudson and fiance David Daniel Otunga finally emerge post baby. Well, via the net anyway. The singer who gave birth to son David Daniel Otunga Jr. last month, posted a few pics online of a recent outing of her and David.
For her first public appearance, she is said to appear as a guest on this Tuesday’s The Oprah Winfrey Show, as Oprah kicks off her 24th season on the television.
Good to see Jen post pregnancy. She looks happy.
Now, I like Brandy and all but everyone tweeting their short hair do’s is getting a little old!
However I will say, it was probably time for Brandy to switch things up a little anyway. Especially in regards to her hair. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean to be rude but I love seeing when artists evolve, not only musically but image wise as well. I believe record labels sometimes have too much control especially where artists’ images and appearances are concerned, it’s good to step out the box every now and then.
Now, back to the topic at hand. Do you like Brandy’s new do? I wonder why only the side view?
P.S: Let me personally apologize for the lack of posts these past few days. I was experiencing some technical difficulties.
