I love the blues, and I love Soul Blues. My mom was a big fan of the blues, and we listened to Johnny Taylor, Bobby Blue Bland, Betty Wright, Little Milton, Mel Waiters, Clarence Carter, Sam Cooke, and so many other. The blues as we discussed over a year ago are card parties that smell like brown liquor, fried catfish or chicken, and spaghetti.
It was hard finding a song because Youtube is very limited when it comes to southern blues, so I had to adjust to what I could find, but I managed to find a few hits that we love here in the South. I know I chose a lot, but this theme started on blues and juke joint music…

Otis Redding and Bill Withers were staples in my house growing up and I love them up to this day. Otis happens to be one of the many artists that my Dad and I share a love for. We have special music memories that I can never forget.

ZZ Hill and juke joint music. You can smell the bourbon. LOL. Bill Withers, “Ain’t No Sunshine”: Does anybody do that song better than he did? Nawww. My daughter loves Dock of the Bay. It used to make me think of childhood. Now I associate it with her.
Cool choices.

Otis Redding was a special talent that we lost prematurely from an airplane crash. That southern blusey flava that he brought during the early 60s was amazing. Good choices.

Hey Grapevine!
You really gave us a goldmine with this selection, even with the ‘limitations’ of YouTube. This is the real stuff, and I love your description of how the blues smells. That description is a classic.
Happy OSF!

This Otis Redding choice is personal for me. I have had many a day belting this tune out with my mother and completely enjoying the music. Also, Ain’t No Sunshine is a classic “I’m feeling down” song. Great choices girl.
