Britney Spears was the most talked about artist at the 2008 Video Music Awards. Thanks to her single, “Piece of Me“, Britney won her first ever 3 VMA’s after being nominated 17 times. Personally the best highlights were Rihanna and T.I’s “Live Your Life” performance and Kanye West’s new song, “Love Lockdown.”
Many style trends were show all over the VMA red carpet. My best dressed picks went to Jordin Sparks, Ciara, and Rihanna. These three definitely own the red carpet…
Best dressed couples were Kobe & Vanessa Bryant plus T.I & Tiny. Vanessa was decked out in Gucci head to toe while Tiny rock a sequin Herve Leger dress. Kobe and T.I both complimented their women with sharp suit jackets.
Melanie Brown kept her red carpet look simple in silver sequin dress and matching Christian Louboutin pumps.
White collar shirts were the ideal look for Chris Brown and LL Cool J. These two basically looked alike in their outfits, huh?
Solange Knowles and Tocarra took fashion risks. Solange wore a tiered Moschino mini-dress and her ever present Fendi clutch while Tocarra went for a biker chick look. However compared to her Fashion Rocks look, Solange looked great! Tocarra decided to focus the attention off her liquid leather leggings to her message tee “Big & Fabulous.”
Nicole Scherzinger and the Dolls The Pussycat Dolls finally look together instead of their notorious five different looks they’re known to do over and over again.
The 5th Anniversary of Fashion Rocks kicked off at Radio City Music Halle this Friday night. Star-studded appearances included Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Ciara, Keyshia Cole, Mary J Blige, Mariah Carey, Ashanti, Tyra Banks, Chris Brown, Lil’ Mama, and many MANY others. (Who wasn’t there is a better question, isn’t it?)
And now onto the three leading style trends from the event…
Style trend #1 – YSL round toe pumps
The Knowles sisters (Beyonce and Solange) must have switched shoes because Solange was seen in the same get-up on the red carpet before her sister. To be fair, Melody Thornton from the Pussycat Dolls and Brandy were all seen in the same pair. Thus, a new ‘it’ shoe is made! Introducing the Yves Saint Laurent round-toe platforms…
Style trend #2- Too much at once!
Nicole Scherzinger, Lil’ Mama, and Solange unfortunately opted to rock as many trends in one outfit. (Sequins, tophat, sari, gold trim, waist belt, sequins, and satin all look great separately but together can be difficult to be pull off.) They all get an E for effort but they should have limited their trend habits to just one.
Style trend #3 – Keep it simple in black.
Black was a no fail style choice as seen on Leona Lewis, Fergie, Ciara, Rihanna, Sean Paul, Chris Brown, Keyshia Cole, Vivica A Fox, and Brandy. Like I said before keep it simple in black.
The 5th Anniversary of Fashion Rocks will air on CBS this Tuesday. Who were your hits and misses of the night?
I must admit, I am not a fan of Disco, but I will play the game. In honor of McCain’s boring speech last night I thought about ABBA, but somehow I talked myself out of that pick. This week I decided to go with BeeGees’ More Than A Woman, because I love the movie Saturday Night Fever.
I know I’m late with this, but we had family come into town, and I wasn’t able to break away to update. Anyway, here are pictures of Halle Berry and Baby Nala, and if you thought she would be anything less than beautiful, then you were wrong, because she is one gorgeous baby…
