Saturday Morning, Actor/Comedian Bernie Mac dies of complications due to pneumonia. He was hospitalized for lung infections due to complications from sarcoidosis, a rare disease that often affects the lung tissues.
Excerpt from Chicago Tribune:
Comedian and Chicago native Bernie Mac died early Saturday morning from complications due to pneumonia, his publicist confirmed.
Mac, 50, had been hospitalized for about a week at Northwestern Hospital, according to his spokeswoman. A few years ago, Mac disclosed that he suffered from sarcoidosis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in tissue, most often in the lungs.
Mac got his respect and he gained national attention after his set on HBO’s popular late-night series Def Comedy Jam in 1992. Decked out in a pair of jeans with his face illustrated, graffiti-style, on the right pants leg, Mac expounded on one taboo subject after another, from the benefits of snitching to his prowess in the bedroom.

I woke up to a text telling me of this news and I didn’t believe it till I read it for myself. So sad, but like Mrs Southern Cookie said, I’m sure he’s making ‘em laugh up there. Peace and prayers going out to his family.

Chicago has suffered a great loss and it’s unbelievable. Condolences and prayers go out to the McCullough family. Let us also keep the family of Isaac Hayes (he died on Sunday 8/11) in our prayers as well, his voice will definitely be missed. RIP great men of all times!

I am so sad. I had the opportunity to meet Bernie Mac and he was very respectful and cordial. An all around nice guy. Tall, dark, handsome and very funny! What a talent! He is going to be greatly missed. He was young and full of life. Let’s pray for his wife and family for strength during this difficult time. My heart goes out to them for such a tremendous loss.

This was a shock to a lot of people. I know I was shocked. Coincidentally one of my uncles had the same disease he had for 40 years but a miracle happened and last fall the doctors couldn’t find any more traces of the disease in his lungs.
