COLUMBIA, S.C.- Three people upset that a news crew was reporting on the arrest of a relative, attacked the television reporter and yelled racial slurs at her and a photographer, authorities said Tuesday. [Source]
What is the world coming to? I guess violence just runs through this family. It’s obviously they haven’t learned to channel their anger. The suspect, Shane Howell was arrested for killing his grandfather, Tommy Howell, during an argument in which he hit his grandfather in the head.
Now, other family members have attacked a black news reporter, Charmayne Brown, while she was standing just feet away on public property from the family home to cover the arrest of Shane Howell. The three family members, Tousha Smith, 31, Billie Joe Taylor, 31, and Trina Vinson, 48, were arrested and held on charges of assault and battery.
The whole thing was caught on tape by nearby white camera crew. The family didn’t attack the white camera crew, they went straight for Miss Charmayne. This is my problem with filming, there is a black boy on the right using his camera phone to film instead of helping, and another news crew just standing by, although they did call 911.

I am just floored by this whole situation. Why attack a news reporter when all she is guilty of is doing her job. If anything the mom and sister should have been jolly-stomping their family member for killing another familly member.
The world is getting crazier by the day.

Charmayne should have been bobbin’ and weavin’…LOL! OK seriously…this was really not cool. Since when did white folks get bold enough to start pickin’ fights with black folks; THAT ish is crazy! Charmayne should have put that microphone to use and went across someone head Barry Bonds-style!

This whole situation is sad. First of all the family involved with the murder is lucky that I was not in that situation. It is 2008, Racism should be long gone. It is sad to see that some people cant come together peacefullly.
Instead of attacking the news reporter they should have attacked the killer!
I am mixed with white and black and it is truly disappointing.
(Why isn’t anyone else helping?)
If it were just the reporter there, she would have probably been beaten to death.
It truly angers me….( even as a teenager…I know what is right from wrong…and that was wrong)

When I first seen the video on the news, I was like why ain’t she throwin’ blows back. Then, I was like why is everyone just watching. Even, her crew (if that is who they were ) didn’t seem to be helping her like I thought they should have. A friend explained to me that they probably fear backlash for grabbing on white women. i was like knock them down who gives a . . moving on. That was very upsetting. I can see why the grandson did that to his grandfather look at the family.

The black guy that was “helping” was her cameraman. The people who were filming was from a rival station (and white).
I agree with Marcus. Professionalism and all that would have been out the window.
There was a white man throwing punches as well, why wasnt he arrested??

@ Cassnadra: There is a fourth person, but that person hasn’t been arrested yet. The cops were unable to locate them.
