Beyonce is on the set of her new film, Cadillac Records, about the life of soulful jazz singer Etta James. I love Etta James and I’m excited about this film. Beyonce has some big shoes to fill and I hope she has the acting skills to pull this off. Etta James has a lot of spunk and spirit. Here’s what Mrs. Etta James had to say about Beyonce starring in the film:
“It’s a privilege and an honor to have somebody like that girl. I don’t think she looks like me, but that’s all right. They can fix that up.”
“I have my own way of putting those songs over, and I was just wondering if Beyoncé could, and my son said, ‘They’re thinking about how she looks, but mama, she can really sing!’”
“I wasn’t as bourgie as she is, she’s bourgeois. She knows how to be a lady, she’s like a model. I wasn’t like that… I smoked in the bathroom in school, I was kinda arrogant, so those are some of the things I would want to tell her.”
Etta James calling Beyonce Bourgeois? Wooooowwwww, I don’t know if that is an insult or a compliment coming from a legend.
As for Beyonce, I hope she doesn’t do another Master Cleansing diet for this one. She keeps gaining and losing weight!
Well, I’m impressed by the look. I hope she can pull this off. I love Etta James.
I reeeeaaaaalllly have my doubts about Bey pulling this one off…
But I’m taking a wait and see attitude…I’m not writing her off like I am that Anthony Mackie playing Tupac (REJECT!!!), I’m just saying, “We’ll see”…
At Last is my favorite by Etta James. The comment didn’t sound like a compliment, but since I didn’t witness the whole conversation, I guess I’ll keep my comments to myself (oops too late…smile).
I hope that she can do this some justice…

I can only say that I am familiar with one of Etta James’ songs and it was beautiful. I am not a fan of Beyonce’, but the one film that I did see her in [that joint with Cuba Gooding Jr.], she was pretty talented. I am sure she will do her role as Etta James some justice as well.
I’m just not impressed… but it’s hard to just judge on a couple pictures, you know?

Beyonce is always so lovable and it does my heart good to see a young black woman who is so talent in all ways keep her head up high. She is the next Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson put together. She can sing like Whitney and Dance and act like Janet.
All I can say is B better bring it. This is make or break for her as far as acting goes. We gave her a pass in “Dreamgirls,” because she was surrounded by a great cast. She better study Etta’s every move and have it down!!

Why didn’t anyone consider Queen Latifah for the role? She has way more acting experience and she certainly looks more like her than Beyonce does. She didn’t even put on enough weight for the role. Sorry, but Beyonce is no actress. She a good enough singer, but acting just isn’t in her. She has been terrible in every movie she has done, say for Dreamgirls to a certain extent. It’s a crime that’s she’s playing Etta.

I am married to a musician (of Prince, Sheila E.and Stevie Nicks fame.) We all went to see the movie last night (12/5); and thoroughly enjoyed it!! My musician husband and brother-in-law especially appreciated it! We all felt Beyonce did a good job. She indeed has talent whether or not one is a die hard fan of hers! As for Ms. James’ “Bourgie” comment – In reading them; I didn’t interpret it as a “slam” at all! What I got out of it, is the comparison she was making between the two of them (she was more ‘rough’ around the edges, and Beyonce is more polished and a “lady”). Mr. Knowles groomed Beyonce to be this way…anywho, me and my family of musicians enjoyed the story, the music and Beyonce!!

I believe Beyonce played her part but Yes, I do believe she should have put on some weight. I think she got in to the part well.

I saw Cadillac Records at a NAACP Screening in Los Angeles and I thought that it was absolutely excellent! Beyonce was the BOMB as an actress and as Executive Producer I might add..but the one that stole the show was the handsome brother who played Little Walter (Columbus Short) he worked that role! I am proud of Beyonce and her accomplishments; and her game must be tight because she certainly seems to have a lot of haters! Ya’ll got a reason cause she got it goin’ on for real!
Everytime someone makes a criticism of a a blak celebrity someone else claims its “Hating”. If your best friend says I love your dress but I dont like the shoes does that mean they hate you or are they just expressing thier opinion about what you are wearing.
I for one love Beyonce my daughter does to, but her acting, in my opinion, is nowhere near the same league as her singing or dancing. If she had to rely on acting she would be broke just as if eddie Murphy had to rely on singing he to would be broke (by Hollywood standards) Jamie Foxx on the other hand is a talented actor and comedian/singer/musician(I also think hes great) but he’s not a great dancer. Jennifer Holiday (love her too) talented singer and actress but she cant dance like beyonce.
So lets get it straight a subjective opinion is not an expression of hate, it is personal observation which can be argued against or agreed with. So, take note idol worshippers we who love our celebrities will always be hear to keep it real for ya…. I’m looking forward to seeing Beyonce in her new film, I hopes she kicks ass in it.
Bey was not thats great it was just plain and simple and her singing was not even close to E.James…. she is just not a actress she needs much to improve she is a talented singer in the R&B world but outside of that not much she is still young and can work on it.
Someone said Queen Latifah and I argee she has a voice for this style of music. Again not taking anything from Bey but she needs not to act she didn’t fit this role.
I have seen the movie several times, and I enjoyed it each time. I will say that I am a die hard beyonce fan, but I do not think that my opinion here is biased at all. Bey has been at the top for YEARS…in every magazine, and the topic of discussion almost everywhere, so I can see where some of the criticism comes from and if you dont love her then i also see why people might just be tired of her at this point.
Being that Beyonce has such an awsome vioce, beautiful persona, killer looks, a body to die for, and amazing moves, and her acting is shy of oscar worthy doesnt make her a bad actress. I think everyone has super high expectations for this woman, and anything shy of PHENOMENAL won’t be good enough for people and she is going to get criticized. She is only human, she can’t be super woman!!! So it kills me when people says she’s a bad or terrible actress, NO SHE ISN’T or else she wouldn’t have gotten any of the roles that she has. If beyonce wasn’t already famous for her singing, and was a new actress then she wouldn’t be getting this much rap from people. Those same people who have criticized her may even say that her acting was good. But since she’s THE beyonce, she can’t please everyone at all times.
Beyonce is getting better and better in each role she plays, and you can see her grow as an actress. I just cant wait to see this new film coming out in february. Since its not a musical, we will be able to see what she can really do as far as acting goes. and im sure she will impress.

The word “criticism” does not mean “hating.” Criticism is only an opinion. In my opinion, Beyonce is a beautiful dancer, singer, dresser, etc., and her acting is improving. Before I reached the top of my line of work, I made many mistakes and corrections. We learn daily. Mistakes helps us to learn and therefore, improve. There is always room for improvement regardless of what line of work we choose. We should all learn and improve on word definition. Love all of you.
The movie was awesome, and as for Beyonce she was freaken great i really believed her..she is definitely a triple threat.. IT’S WONDERFUL TO SEE A BLACK WOMAN REPRESENTING FOR US ALL OF US!!…you guys need to really stop with the bad comments she is doing her thang.. the only thing i mad at her for is marrying my husband (jay)..lol… VIVA LA BLACK ARTISTS!!!
I thought Beyonce did her best acting in this movie but I think Alecia Keys might have been a good candidate as well.

While watching “THE VIEW”, a morning talk show on ABC, on February 5th, 2009, the women in charge of that program commented on Etta James “fallout” over, Beyonce’s performance of her song, “AT LAST.” One of the women on “THE VIEW” said that it has been reported that Etta James publically said that she (Etta) wants to “Kick Beyonce’s “ASH” for performing her (Etta James) song at the Presidential Inauguration Ball.
According to Elena Gorgan, Life & Style Editor, on February 5th, 2009, at 13:31 GMT, and I quote, Etta James said “You know, YOUR President, the one with the big ears-he ain’t my President – had that woman singing for him at his Inauguration. She’s going to get her [expletive] whooped. How dare Beyonce sing MY song that I been singing forever. Now I’m going to sing it for y’all…” Etta told the crowd. “The great Beyonce… I can’t stand Beyonce,” she added, to the applause of the audience.”
President Barrack Obama “named it and claimed it”. Beyonce named it and claimed it. Obviously Etta James wanted her story portrayed by Beyonce or she would not have given her permission for Beyonce to portray her in “Cadillac Records.” By the way, when the three little pigs said to the Big Bad Wolf, “My what big hears you have Grandma,” in the story of “Little Red riding Hood,” the Big Bad Wolf said, “The better to HEAR you…” In my opinion, Etta James owes President Barrack Obama and Beyonce Knowles an apology.
