My mamma and her crew used to play “Rise and Fly.” They’d set up four card tables and every ten minutes it looked like musical chairs, LOL.

I remember hearing this song when my Mama and her cousins would play a hand of Bid Whist. My mom would sway side to side while puffing on a Salem.

@ IW: Don’t worry I didn’t know the “Big Lady Disco” song, you posted on your blog. It sounds familiar, but I can’t say that I know it.

You can get a box of chicken from any black chicken hut or any fried chicken franchise; It may be a southern thing, but you can get some pickled peppers and rolls on the side.

Whre do you get a box of chicken and peppers? And what kind of peppers? Sorry to sound so clueless….I think that might be a Southern thing.

Hahaha! I do not know nothing about this tune, but I like it. I dig the ol’ school stuff and ya know this. It’s been a minute since I have been around some folks that were playin’ cards while taking down some malt liquor, but yeah, this song really makes me think of my Summertime family cookouts and whatnot.

My older cousins who thought they were pimps in Jersey with their hats cocked all the way to the side like Al Green used to play this music. Methinks that’s how they seduced their chickenheads, haha!

But why do they always have catfish and spaghetti? and a box of chicken…with peppers?

I am just smiling from ear to ear! I can remember my mother and my aunts playng this song and many others, while getting ready to go to the “juke-joints!” “Taxiiii! Take me to the other side of town!”

I just remember hearing this song while Mama and them were dancing and playing dominoes….I of course was in my room with a plate full of food and peaking out the door to see what was going on.
