I started this post for Ms Marvalus, Regina, Villager, Yobachi, Lisa C, Sheila, AJ, Marucs Langford, Thembi, and Invisible Woman. Also, it’s just another way for me to share some link love. Anyway, I want to test how much you know about real music, and to see how many of you are true “juke-joint” and “card-party” babies, or apart of the real thing.
This is one of my favorite songs. The artist name is J Blackfoot, so what you know about that:

I just remember hearing this song while Mama and them were dancing and playing dominoes….I of course was in my room with a plate full of food and peaking out the door to see what was going on.

I need you to go dig deep in your treasure chest of music and pull out a good one.
But why do they always have catfish and spaghetti? and a box of chicken…with peppers?

@ AJ:
You were in your room because you had to get out of “grown folks business”…?
@ Kreative: I didn’t know you down, too.

My older cousins who thought they were pimps in Jersey with their hats cocked all the way to the side like Al Green used to play this music. Methinks that’s how they seduced their chickenheads, haha!

Hahaha! I do not know nothing about this tune, but I like it. I dig the ol’ school stuff and ya know this. It’s been a minute since I have been around some folks that were playin’ cards while taking down some malt liquor, but yeah, this song really makes me think of my Summertime family cookouts and whatnot.

Whre do you get a box of chicken and peppers? And what kind of peppers? Sorry to sound so clueless….I think that might be a Southern thing.

@ IW: Don’t worry I didn’t know the “Big Lady Disco” song, you posted on your blog. It sounds familiar, but I can’t say that I know it.
You can get a box of chicken from any black chicken hut or any fried chicken franchise; It may be a southern thing, but you can get some pickled peppers and rolls on the side.

I remember hearing this song when my Mama and her cousins would play a hand of Bid Whist. My mom would sway side to side while puffing on a Salem.
sidenote: I was able to post a comment on my site. Going to contact my hosting provider to see what’s the deal.

LOL MG, I was singing as soon as I saw the title, HA!! I’ve heard that song so many times.
My mamma and her crew used to play “Rise and Fly.” They’d set up four card tables and every ten minutes it looked like musical chairs, LOL.
Fantastic post! And thanks for the link love.

@ Choc Lady: See, you know what I’m talking about. I was thinking about putting Marvin Sease or ZZ Hill, but I settled on J Blackfoot.
@ IW: OK, you get your hood card back, had me worry for a second.

I have to admit that I don’t remember this particular song … however, I do remember the genre –> soul music!
Reminds me of songs like What’s Your Name or Why Don’t You Call Me Anymore…
