Etta James was in stable condition Thursday after being hospitalized for complications from abdominal surgery she had last month, her manager said.
The 69-year-old blues singer was being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
“Her condition is stabilized” but she had to cancel upcoming tour dates with B.B. King and Al Green, her manager, Lupe De Leon, said in an e-mail.
De Leon did not indicate when James was admitted but said the hospitalization was caused by “post-op complications” from her mid-June surgery. The complications and the nature of the surgery were not specified. [Source]

Tonight I learned about Etta James history and it was a kind of bitter sweet history. To see her father didn’t want nothing too do with her because of her black side.Too see her on drugs and almost lose everything she ever had or own.Too see her manager pick her back up and take control of her house. Before he die he made sure she keep her house. So I enjoy the movies.I never knew of her until the movie came out.I hope she okay now.

Hey La Tania, I assume that your post is based upon the movie “Cadillac Records”. I think you should know that what took place in the movie is a FICTIONAL account of fact based events. In other words, it’s loosely based on truth. I think you should definitely consider researching the facts about this woman and anyone else in that movie because what you saw was almost purely entertainment and not fact.

I totally agree with Jody, everything in the movie was fiction. I started studying music during my undergrad years and of course attending a Historically Black College and University, (HBCU) the study of African American Music was/is of course important. Yes, Ms. James has had her share of struggles in life. But I suggest you research and find out on your own. I know that you would find the lives of not just Etta James, but Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin’ Wolf and many others that were tied to Chess Records fascinating.
